Re: A new look for HTF.........

See the cause, and a temporary solution, in the "problems" thread!

Many of the links and some of the text appear white on white in the White Skin now. Is there anything I can do about this?
I have the default setting, and on the main page for each forum, I cannot read the names of the threadstarter. Also, in the "last post" column, with the white on pale purple colouring, I cannot see the date of the last post (just the time).

EDIT: Sorry - for some reason I didn't see Cees' post above. Forget I said anything.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

While we're on the topic of thread bylines, I think it would be nice to have the original thread post date with the poster's name.

e.g.

Some Thread Title here....

Re: A new look for HTF.........

The white text problems should be resolved. If you notice any other areas let me know.

Dave:

I am not sure what you are referring to. Do you mean on the thread listing page you want the name of the person that started the post and the day he/she started it? Right now there is the thread title with the author right below that.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Parker, you did it! Thanks I like being able to see the thread creation date with the creator's name. Hopefully everyone else likes it too.

[EDIT]
As they say, be careful what you ask for, you just might get it... I really thought this was a good idea, and often wish I could see the thread creation date before jumping in. And I do like this feature, seeing the creation date.

But now that I see it in action, I realize that it really adds a lot of clutter to the thread-list pages. It may be too distracting. No fault of yours Parker -- it's just what I asked. But what I wanted is maybe not a good idea for HTF... Sorry

Let's see how it pans out.

Just under the text box in the quick reply window on any page there is this line of text:

Quote:
Posting Rules: vB code is On, Smilies are On, [IMG] code is On

Every bit of text I have colored red is displaying as white.

You'll see this if you just scroll down from this post.

Mike:

Should be fixed.

BTW, how is the Blu-ray player?

Re: A new look for HTF.........

FYI:
Noticed that the word "Quote:", that is above every "quote box" is white. Didn't notice that it was invisible/missing until I highlighted the area by accident today.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Still think you should keep a separate STUDIO FEEDBACK section. Especially for an easy place for Studio Execs to go when/if interested in what the HTF community has to say on a given subject.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Hoo boy. Post counts are back!

Re: A new look for HTF.........

We are looking for ways to replace them by meaningful-post counts.
Or else we should add one of those "123 of 248 readers found this post useful" functions.

Use the sDVD or HD Software areas for those type of requests
from now on. Trust me, the studios read those areas more than
the feedback area which was at the bottom of our page and not
as noticeable.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Can we keep the Photography section separate from the Computers/HTPC section? It doesn't really make much sense to lump them together like that -- makes it hard to know at a glance if there's a new post there. And if many folks don't want to see it (and anything else) listed when they visit HTF, they can always just exclude it in their custom settings, no?

Yeah, I know the Photography section doesn't get much foot traffic, but now, it might get even less since it's practically hidden from everyone's view.

Thanks for management's consideration (and for all the good work done on the site so far)...

I second this request. I like to check it once in a while, but since it's been moved I don't bother.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

I don't like the post-counts...

I always thought it was 'classy' of HTF to hide post-counts. It eliminated an idea of "I'm better than you because I post more...".

THE TURKEY KNAPP IS BACK! After years of being missing in action it is pleasing to see this icon of the HTF return this year!

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Parker: Would it be possible to get a "Forum Jump" drop-down menu near the top of the User CP page (as there is on most other forum pages)?

The way I often navigate the forums is by checking my User CP to see which of my subscribed threads have new posts. If I find there are none, I'd love to be able to jump to a sub-forum without having to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page.

Thanks.

EDIT** Maybe there'd be space on the right half of that little bar (at the top of the User CP page) that contains the "Quick Search" for google, amazon, etc.?

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Did the new "blue" skin suddenly look an awful lot like the old "white" skin? Or maybe I'm just getting used to the new look...or maybe I'm just having a stroke.

It's just that tonight, the pages of the forum seemed very bright white. Maybe it's a monitor adjustment on my end.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Mike,

Parker is doing a lot of modifications these days to the
forum skin/layout.

He's testing various colors and so forth and will be continuing
to do so over the next week or so.

Thing is, he needs to test it "Live" so at any point you may hit
the forum at a precise moment where he may be testing a scheme
that may look very "odd" to you.

We are working on something rather bold for an upcoming event
in the next few weeks. No doubt you are going to see a few strange
things going on around here for the next 3 weeks.

Please be patient. You'll understand where all this is going shortly.
