A new look for HTF......... - Page 5

Re: A new look for HTF.........

I use the White Skin as a default, so I have not even seen the Simpsons skin. Like someone said above, if it bothers you, switch to White Skin.

Just kidding. I'm scared to change the skin since the great WAP-land incident of September 2007. I like the change up though, be curious to see what else we can get in the future.

REPLY FROM OWNER

You know, I always try to be very polite and professional
when responding to complaints in this forum. After all, we
invite your suggestions and understand that we may have some
good ol' criticism thrown our way when we do something out
of the "ordinary."

The staff and I have been reading your forum posts over the past
12 hours regarding our new forum skin and are just shaking our
heads in disbelief over the sort of comments some of you are making.

Now permit me to say something rather unprofessional.....

ARE YOU GUYS FOR REAL?!

You know, Parker and I have been very excited for the past few
weeks about working with Twentieth Century Fox Home Video on
both their release of The Simpsons Movie and their huge
event in Manhattan today.

We thought it would be cool to skin our forum in yellow and
blue. We even took all precautions necessary by putting up an
announcement about what we were doing.

I suppose some of you didn't bother to read the announcement.
Others, I sort of sense that they did and just decided to complain
about our color scheme anyway. One person even had the audacity
to tell people how to turn it off.

I sit here wondering where is everyone's sense of humor? Can't
you see what we are doing here for the next three days and possibly
show a little appreciation for the fact that we are doing something
rather "cool" and "unique?"

I don't want to come across as seeming upset. The staff and I are
actually more puzzled by these responses than anything else.

....and we chose to honor The Simpsons in this manner
because one, Fox is the ONLY studio that invites HTF to Press
events like these and we are proud to go the extra mile to provide
the best coverage we can......and two, what better way to skin a
forum than with colors that speak well for the subject it honors.

Really, we would love to do more cool themes like this in the
future, but if people are going to complain, perhaps we'll just
think twice about doing this sort of thing again.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Ron, I understand your intent. However, for me, looking at the Simpsons skin is like having to stare into a strobe light. You can do it for a few seconds, but you have to turn away because your eyes hurt. That shade of yellow is killer.

Maybe my monitor isn't calibrated very well. Hmm...perhaps an ISF calibration would solve this?

Re: A new look for HTF.........

I don't know if I'm the audacious person, or if you meant the guy who originally mentioned that White Skin is unaltered, but I didn't even know about the yellow until I read about it here since I've always used White. If you don't want people to be able to turn it off, alter the White as well. Problem solved.

The first thing I saw were the donuts, and they didn't bother me. I did not see the sticky at first, though. I don't know what you can do about that, but the information there changes infrequently, so I don't tend to look in that area too often.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

ha haaa, I'm kinda enjoying the "MY EYES MY EYES!" posts

It's a fun change. You should leave it as a selectable skin, it's pretty easy to read the posts.

Maybe people have the briteness to high on their monitors XD

Re: A new look for HTF.........

People keep mentioning "the donuts"...but I don't see them. Where are they? The only donuts I see are in the banner ads for The Simpsons Movie at the top of each page.

Clear your cache, then you should see them in the forum list.

Audacity? A little dramatic. What's wrong with helping people be able to read better again? Where else should one complain about such things save for this little out-of-the-way thread?

The whole discussion of this issue has been more than a little dramatic.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Dramatic, but also I think rooted in a bit of misunderstanding.

Speaking for myself only, the yellow color is hard on my eyes. I'm not averse to change at all, and I'm a huge Fox/Simpsons fan. But seriously, it does hurt my eyes to read after a short period of time.

Which brings me to the "misunderstanding" part. Two friends of mine are opthalmologists and they'll be the first to tell you that people's sensitivity and perception of color can vary quite a bit. Ron's probably not particularly sensitive to this shade of yellow and is wondering "why all the drama"? Meanwhile, for people in my predicament, it really does begin to hurt my eyes/head after a short period of time, and so I appreciated when someone informed me of how to change the color - it allows me to continue reading this forum without developing an eyeache/headache (is that first one even a word?!?!?)

Heck, my best friend is red/green colorblind so if we changed the forum colors to that (which would I'm sure annoy quite a few people) he'd be like "what's the problem"

I suppose. Still, I really don't think there's a reason to take umbrage at someone posting how to get a normal background. Many members seem to appreciate it.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Ron, sorry, I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes or rain on anyone's parade. And my post did not complain about the color scheme or put it down in any way, or voice any opinion (negative or positive) about the color scheme.

It very simply stated what I did to turn off the yellow.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

how about switching the yellow and blue around, see how that looks.

still doens t matter to me.
i like new colors.

Promise?

I admit, I missed the sticky, but, still... I kind of resent the implication that I should be grateful for this. It's not a good-looking color scheme in a lot of areas, especially compared to the unobtrusive one it's displacing. I can sort of see being surprised that people don't like it (although, seriously... at no point in the process did someone think that making a part of people's daily routine into a giant, garish billboard might be met with a hostile response?), but the "this is cool and if you don't see that you're an ingrate" response rubs me the wrong way.

Speaking for myself, it's not that I didn't bother but that I didn't notice the announcement. As someone else said, the announcements don't change often so I don't check them every time I visit. I completely missed the announcement, incorrectly thought the yellow was a permanent change and made a post about it. Once you pointed out the announcement I read it and I'm cool with what HTF is doing and support it.

Ditto.

I find the "audacity" thing a bit puzzling as well. I am grateful for whoever tipped us off on turning this thing off because believe me, I wouldn't be here otherwise (AVS Forum lost me forever long ago because of their atrocious color scheme). No amount of justification will change the fact that the color scheme literally hurts my eyes.

I wonder how fans of the series feel about this. As a normally indifferent non-fan, I had no interest in this DVD release, but as of today, I am downright irritated by anything Simpsons. I doubt I am the only one. That can't possibly be a desirable outcome of this thing.

There has got to be a less obnoxious way to honor this release or fulfill contractual obligations (hard to believe I know, but we DO understand that bills need to be paid). Heck, the yellow in the Simpsons ad above doesn't seem nearly as blinding as the new scheme. At least consider dialing it down a bit. Or switch the colors around then, so that the text background is blue (and the profile stuff yellow). Anything, everything is better than a bright yellow background for reading ().

It's never fun to see a new idea met negatively. But this particular sub-forum is here for a reason and well, there it is.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Another ditto. That is what this subforum is for. You are not gonna please everyone and this is a classic case. Please don't be offended by it. It's not that we don't appreciate what you are trying to do, it's that we just happen to not like these color choices. And in some cases, mine included, it is very hard on the eyes.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

I just came here to see if there was anyone else who has problems with this temp. color scheme....and I see I am not alone. It does hurt my eyes and it definitely limits the amount of time I spend on the forum.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Seems its not as yellow now. I didnt have a problem with it. But this yellow works. The Simpsons characters come in many shades of yellow anyway

Spider-Pig. Spider-Pig. Does whatever a Spider-Pig does.

As seen at the top of this week's RoundUp:

Spiderpig, Spiderpig,
Does what ever a spiderpig does.
Can he swing, from a web?
No he cant, he's a pig.
Look out, he is a spiderpig.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

This does work better, but now the blue seems a bit too bright in the quotes. It's fine in the profile section on the left, though. But it's definitely better than it was before. Thanks!

Yeah, I got away from the Homer yellow and went more with a Maggie yellow. Now the Bart yellow is a killer. You think your eyes burned before!

Homer: Heh? What happened to my yellow?
Marge: I kind of like it Homee. It's all Feng Shui.
Maggie: (insert sucking sound)
Homer: Heh boy. Where's Spider-Pig?
Bart: I don't know man. Are you sure you didn't eat 'em?
Homer: Hmm....Spider-Pig. Tastes just like a Spider-Pig should. Duh!
Bart: Ha, ha.

Does Bart's laugh kind of remind you of a Woody the Woodpecker's laugh just without all the extra Has?

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Now why don't you put Spiderpig prints all over the yellow now?
