Parker,
Didn't want you to think no one noticed all your labor.

A new look for HTF.........

Just wanted to say that I like the new look!
While I liked the old software, and never had any problems with it, it doesn't hurt to have a new interface once in awhile. I think it livens things up a little.
Nice job y'all!

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Any chance of a dark theme? Black or dark blue background, etc...

Maybe later. It took awhile to get this one made up.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

What I want to know is if you think it is easier to navigate around than the old layout.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Parker i had to look for my favorite link. I always hit the new posts for the day...or two. But after looking around i found it in the quick links. Crisis averted! I like the new look by the way.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Groovy. I like the rounded corners and revised look. It has a smart, modern feel.

Maybe it's always been this way, but I see it strongly now... The strong title header above every post could be toned down. They take a lot of room on the whole and don't add any information. In this thread, for example, having the title "A new look for HTF..." repeated before every post feels a bit much. Imagine for a multi-page thread seeing the title repeated a few hundred times would be distracting.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Wow I like it. A LOT.

Usually changes and upgrades take some getting used to, (even the transition to the new and much improved software was rough there for a while) but this one flat out nailed it.

Great job .

Re: The Forum looks very nice....

Didn't mean to start a thread on the same subject as your's.
I think we were typing them at the same time, and since I'm such a slow typist, you finished before me. There's 2 minutes difference, in our post times.

I agree. I prefer the old, open white layout but this is certainly no deal breaker -- with the exception of the post header bars you mentioned. It'd look a lot better if the actual topics looked like the Topic Review when replying in advanced mode; rounded blue for the top header bar in the thread, and white/silver bars for the post header bars that follow. Keeps things more compact and maintains the flow of a thread. As it is now, all the posts in a thread feel disconnected from each other.

No speed problems with the new layout, though. Zippy as ever!

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Looks nice.

If you want the older skin, there's a little drop-down box at the bottom left. You can choose "White Skin" and go back to the older one.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Looks nice. The only change I don't like is the new arrow symbol for threads that you have posted in. I think the arrow just blends in a little too much, and prefer the more obvious dot that was previously used.
But other than that, it looks good. I imagine it was a lot of work for you, and you've done a good job. Well done.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Nice, I like the contrast between the light and dark, it does make it a little easier to make out the sections/forums..

Thread title not necessarily repeated.....

The thread title is not necessarily repeated with each post. Maybe I can come up with a way of demonstrating this.

Oh wait. I guess you did.

Changes made. Any futher suggestions?

Re: A new look for HTF.........

I wouldn't have the post headings--in the blue skin--the same font and size as the post characters themselves. That would get confusing.

In the old white skin they are smaller and bold...which offsets them from the actual post text.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

At the top of each page in the new skin is a series of tabs labeled: Forums, HTF Chat, Hardware Reviews, Software Reviews, Galleries, Log Out and Forum News.

On my two PCs (again, both using 1024 by 768 resolution) they don't seem to display correctly. The words "review" appear outside the appropriate two buttons and the final two buttons appear to be piggy-backed.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

The HTF Mission Statement does not appear above the Forum Rules when you click on the "Forum Rules" button in the blue skin's menu bar.

Re: A new look for HTF.........

I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.7 on both my laptop and my home PC.
I am able to see the new format (I like it), using Firefox on my laptop. On my home PC, I still see the old style. I've cleared the cache and even re-loaded Firefox to no avail. If I use IE or 'IE View' thru Firefox, I see the new format.
Help, what setting in Firefox needs to be tweaked ?

Thanks !

Re: A new look for HTF.........

Lew: Did you scroll down to the very bottom of any page and select "blue skin" from the pop-up menu (located in the far left-hand corner)?

I'm using Firefox on both my PCs and see it fine.

Thanks Parker. All looks great now.

EDIT: Actually - I just realised that I don't seem to have access to the spoiler button in the Quick Reply box. I can understand dropping some of the other tags from the Quick Reply, but the spoiler tags seem pretty essential.
