Passive IR extender?

My TiVo is sitting on a shelf above and behind my TV, so when I sit on the couch I have to put the remote over my head to get it to work. (Bouncing it off the ceiling doesn't work either.)

Does anyone know of a product which I could use? I'm thinking of a short piece of fibre optic cable with lenses at both ends which I could stick on the side of the TV and the front of the TiVo.

Yeah it would work, but it's a little overkill (and pricey) for 3 feet.
