i order my copy and i should have it next week. I am looking forward to this show.

Haven't seen them all, but the back cover just says the usual thing, that some episodes may be edited from their original network versions.

every episode is around 51 minutes

Tested out my copy of the Season 3 set yesterday. A really good boxset (shame again about there being no episode intros by Mike Connors and no interview with him), and of what I watched (I tested out a few chapters of each episode) the print quality is great, with strong colour in most episodes.

Below is some of the ratings information for Mannix during it's eight season run. The source is the book "The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows (1946-99)" by Tim Brooks and Earle Marsh:

Season 1 (1967-68) - finished outside the Top 30

Season 2 (1968-69) - finished outside the Top 30

Season 3 (1969-70) - # 30 (with a 19.9 rating)

Season 4 (1970-71) - # 17 (with a 21.3 rating)

Season 5 (1971-72) - # 7 (with a 24.8 rating )

Season 6 (1972-73) - finished outside the Top 30

Season 7 (1973-74) - finished outside the Top 30

Season 8 (1974-75) - joint 20th place with Cannon (with a 21.6 rating).

Where did Mannix come in the 1967-68, 1968-69, 1972-73 and 1973-74 US TV seasons and what rating did it get for those seasons? And was the show cancelled after it's eighth season, or did the show's makers decide to finish the show?

In an interview I had with Mike Connors, he said CBS wanted a 9th season, but Paramount wanted it to go into syndication. so the studio pulled the plug

That's interesting. In one way I can understand it if Paramount wanted the show to go into syndication (the one example I knew of before, was with CBS and the TV series Early Edition. They made enough episodes with it's fourth and last season for syndication). But on the other hand it sounds like the show's ratings were still good (the show finishing 20th for the 1974-75 season) and the show didn't get cancelled. When the show finished they were a few episodes short of the 200th episode milestone (same with Ironside). I feel the show could have run and run. From your reply it also sounds like Mike Connors wasn't tired with the role (did Gail Fisher do any interviews while the show was on the air? (*) Still, Mannix is one of the longest running US detective shows.

(*) I doubt it now, as the second and third season sets had no extras, but I would have liked to have seen CBS DVD include any possible radio and TV interviews for Mannix for future DVD boxsets.

Were there ever any plans for crossovers with other CBS shows?

Oh and thanks for your reply.

*****

With there being 24 episodes for each of the remaining five seasons of Mannix there should be 4 episodes each on 6 discs, so there shouldn't be a repeat of there being five episodes on one or more discs (in the third season boxset disc 6 had five episodes on it. Although the quality of the episodes didn't seem affected). Does it affect the picture or sound quality much when the total running time of one disc goes to over 240 minutes (four hours)? I'm sure I read somewhere on a film/TV/DVD forum that there are or could be problems when there are more than four episodes of an hour long show on one DVD disc.

Aside from the re-released album of music from Mannix, have any other albums with music from Mannix been released on CD?
I don't know, but that theme is one of my all-time favorites in TV shows.
Did they ever change the Mannix theme tune over the seasons? So far, going up to the third season, the theme tune hasn't changed.

Connors appeared in character on a 4th season episode of HERE'S LUCY, "Lucy and Mannix Are Held Hostage" (1971).  Lucy sees a gangster (Marc Lawrence) robbing a safe, Harry hires Mannix to protect her, and Lucy manages to get herself and Mannix captured.

In 1997, Connors played Mannix on an episode of DIAGNOSIS: MURDER, "Hard-Boiled Murder."  They used footage from an earlier MANNIX episode, brought back the original guest stars (Pernell Roberts and Julie Adams) for present-day scenes, and created a semi-sequel episode.

I doubt it, but if CBS DVD do read these pages, to go with the fifth season and seventh season sets respectively these two episodes would make for great DVD extras (the Here's Lucy episode aired during the 1971-72 season, and the Mannix episode "Little Girl Lost" aired during the 1973-74 season). Would be great as well if they could get some interviews with Mike Connors, Pernell Roberts, Julie Adams and the other actors/actresses who appeared in the Mannix and Diagnosis: Murder episodes.

Normally it's six months inbetween DVD releases of a season of a TV show, but with Mannix it's taken longer than that, around 7-8 months, so the fourth season may be released between April and June this year. So it would be announced around March to April. This is just a guess though. But it's strange why it's taking so long for CBS DVD to release seasons of Mannix, when all eight seasons have been transferred to HD.
For those who have seen the fourth season of Mannix, did you have any favourite episodes?
I am still watching the second season but I buy every season of Mannix as they release them so sales stay good. I hope. :-) But I really enjoy the show. From the begining it was a total blind buy on my part. Just wish I could have more Police Woman thru SONY.

Can't wait for Season 4!  Based on the past release schedule, we should be seeing another one hopefully sometime during the summer months, assuming sales have been healthy on the previous sets.

Season 1 had flashes of greatness, and I loved the relationship between Mannix and his boss at the detective agency.
Season 2 was incredibly fantastic, one of the best sophomore seasons of any tv show I've seen.  Clever plots, great acting and guest stars, and lots of action, plus some kick-ass music scores.
I have just about finished Season 3, and while it's not as good as season 2, it's still massively entertaining.

I hope we get all 8 seasons, especially since seasons 7 and 8 are not in syndication.<<

It's looking increasingly like CBS DVD will only release one season of Mannix this year (compared to the second and third seasons last year), as it's been now nearly five months since the third season was released. All eight seasons have been transferred to HD (source: the CBS Syndication Distribution Television Bible website, when members of the public could visit it), so it's all in CBS DVD's hands now, as to how fast they can bring the remaining five seasons out on Region 1 DVD.

I'm guessing it was posted in the wrong thread. But for a second I thought there had been a crossover episode with Harry O.

I moved Winifred's post to the Warner Chat 2010: 'No plans at this time' thread.

I Am Not Surprised Season 5 Rated The Best,Just Finished Watching Season 6 And So Far Season 5 Is By Far The Best, All The Episodes Are Good In The 5th Season.

It dosen't make sense why the fourth season of Mannix may have been delayed, or why the series has been abandoned on DVD. When it said on the CBS Television Syndication Distribution Bible website that all eight seasons had been transferred to HD, you wonder what was the point of them doing that when they're not going to release them on DVD. At this rate, if the fourth season has been delayed until 2011, if CBS DVD released two seasons a year, then they won't finish releasing Mannix on DVD until 2013. This is just a theory though.

It seems Paramount and CBS are not releasing further seasons of Mannix yet. How did you see Seasons 5 and 6? I tried ordering a set from one of those sites offering the whole first 6 seasons and they were a mess. Could you tell me how you got those copies of seasons 4, 5 and 6?

I think CBS is just spacing out the classic releases. I wouldn't be too concerned.

I can't comment for anyone else, but I have only got the official Region 1 DVD boxsets of the first three seasons of Mannix. I'm not overly worried about it being seven months since the third season of Mannix was released by CBS DVD (October 2009). I might get worried if nothing is announced for the fourth season by the end of this year.

I, too, am looking forward to season 4 of the Mannix DVDs. I had been buying them for my elderly mother then watching when she was done. Being 50 years old I have fond memories of shows such as this and Mission: Impossible and am delighted to see them again after all these years on DVD with awesome quality.

This reminds me to add some more seasons of M:I to my Netflix queue.

I also wonder how the medical shows from that era fare as far as quality and ability to sell. The two I had in mind were Marcus Welby, M.D. and Medical Center.

I wouldn't give up on a Season 4 release of Mannix in 2010 yet.  I've got a pretty good feeling we will be seeing a release announcement for S4 before this summer is up.  We won't get an actual release this summer (because we'd probably have already had the announcement if that were the case), but I'll bet we get an announcement for a Fall release.
