Mannix is coming! - Page 8

Re: Mannix is coming!

Well I hope we get a season 3 announcement soon or I will get worried... Or should we be already?

Re: Mannix is coming!

While I thought Mannix Season 3 would have been announced before now, I don't believe we have anything to worry about for this reason. The Paramount Syndication Listing says that all the first 7 Seasons of Mannix have been converted to HD and Season 8 is in progress. This almost certainly means Paramount is planning on releasing the entire Mannix series on DVD or they probably wouldn't be spending the time and money on transferring the series to HD.

Take Care!

Re: Mannix is coming!

That's great news. The last I read on this forum was that Paramount had digitally remastered the episodes up to Season 6.

Let's hope we heard a release date on season 3 shortly! Glad to heard all 8 seasons have been remastered!!

Re: Mannix is coming!

Still wondering why we have not heard of any release date for season three?? Any one know what the situation is??

Re: Mannix is coming!

Hi Mark, I don't think there's anything to worry about. My guess is that S3 will be coming later in the year and we'll hear something about 3 months prior to the actual release date. CBS/P has so many releases coming that they likely space them out to avoid self-cannibalism with their titles.

Re: Mannix is coming!

I agree with Steve. If you look at the CBS Syndication Bible it shows us that MANNIX has had all its episodes transferred to HD. That, to me, means that CBS/Paramount is committed to this series long term. I expect we'll see 2 seasons per year released until it's finished. I think of Mannix like Hawaii Five-O, and we all know how committed CBS/P is to that series.

Re: Mannix is coming!

I don't know about that, CBS/Paramount being committed to this series' entire run. Is Mannix really that popular? If it continues, I wouldn't be surprised to see split seasons.

I've always found the info in the CBS/Paramount syndie bible a little strange, that they'd transfer the entire series of Mannix right away and make note of it, while Hawaii Five O, Gunsmoke, and Mission: Impossible get periodic updates. Maybe there is a real, big Mannix fan at CBS/Paramount really pushing for it.

They had six seasons transfered to HD before the first season boxset was released so this hasn't been done on a DVD deadline like Hawaii Five-O and Mission Impossible.

It's hard to judge how committed CBS is to Hawaii Five-O. They've been putting it out in tandem with Mission Impossible, but after the rumored October release, they'll be finished with Mission Impossible. If they get season 3 of Mannix out around the same time Sept/Oct, it'd be great to have the final five seasons of Mannix and Hawaii Five-O teamed up on the schedule.

Mannix was popular in first run, supposedly didn't do so well in syndication.

Re: Mannix is coming!

The CBS Syndication Bible also mentions Love Boat has HD masters transferred through something like season 6, very strange considering they release 1 season per year (split up). Between this and Mannix, it's very strange news indeed.

I do think there is something to be said for having a VP at CBS-P who is a fan of the show. I think it's interesting that, in addition to having a smaller than average dropoff between DVD seasons, Hawaii Five-0 supposedly has support from executive level fans at CBS (based on something I read a couple years ago), yet even Five-0 has not been HD remastered through all 12 seasons so far, as the syndication bible indicates has been done with Mannix.

Very curious as to what it all means, as I've been enjoying Mannix on a blind buy this last year.

I don't think it's a secret to anyone at this point that having an advocate or fan in high places (i.e. executive) can make a big, big difference. David Levine has gone on record telling us this is the case, and other industry folks have said similar things. It absolutely helps.

I'd bet big bucks on Mannix getting similar treatment to MI and Hawaii Five-O. Whether or not a part of this treatment is because some exec loves the show or not I don't know. But all the signs are there that this one will keep coming.

But this is not only being done for DVD purposes. They are trying to syndicate these show to TV channels that are in HD. At some point there will be an TVLand HD that will not want to run shows that were shot or cut on video. With Mannix and Hawaii Five-O, you've got two shows that will play well with the extra detail. HDNet used to run Hogan's Heroes' HD transfers.

maybe Paramount is putting together an HD version of RTN?

Re: Mannix is coming!

Bottom line is if continues to sell enough to make a profit, it will keep coming out. If it stops selling and becomes a losing proposition, it won't.

Speaking of which, why is it that all other sales figures in the entertainment industry are made public? CD sales, theatrical movie box office sales, etc. Only DVD sales are kept under wraps. Curious.

Re: Mannix is coming!

Regarding Mission: Impossible, maybe after CBS/Paramount release the final seventh season of Mission: Impossible they'll remaster the first season of the late 80's revival of Mission: Impossible and release it at the same time as Season 8 of Hawaii Five-O next year?

Re: Mannix is coming!

I would like to see all12 seasons of Five-0, all 8 seasons of Mannix, and the 7 of MI, then the two 80's seasons of MI! Just hope it comes true, like most of you think it will!!

I think so they can make excuses, sudden moodswings in management, etc. ;-)

You can easily find the sales with unit numbers for the Top 30. Although it's rare when a TV show on DVD hits the chart.

Re: Mannix is coming!

CBS/Paramount could have scheduled the releases perfectly. If Season 3 of Mannix is released at the same time as Season 7 of Mission: Impossible, then the last five seasons of Mannix could be released concurrently with Seasons 8-12 of Hawaii Five-O.

I just hope all three sows(MI, Mannix and Five-0) get release news shortly. Iam losing my mind not knowing what is going on!! Would love to view these shows again!

Yes the TVShowsOnDVD news link for Mannix: The Third Season has already been posted in this HTF folder in a new Mannix thread solely about the third season, but I thought it would be ok to post it in this general Mannix thread. The news was posted on TVShowsOnDVD earlier today, with the front cover artwork added later. The URL link to the news article is below:

What do people think of the front cover artwork for the Season 3 set? Is the main image of Mike Connors from 1969 (when the third season started)?
Surprised by the absence of replies. There must not be much interest in Mannix on this forum.
I like the cover myself.  I look forward to getting season 3.

We're out here somewhere in the Matrix

Mannix is one of my all-time cop/pvt investigator shows. After 40+ years, that theme song still buzzes around inside my head.  I liked the early seasons the best but after S1.  For some reason, I wasn't as big a fan of S1.  Still liked it though and it's great watching S1 on DVD.  Im about 2/3 complete with S1 with S2 waiting on the shelf.

Like that they continue the bullets per season. Will they be able to squeeze eight rounds on the final set's spine?

Be good if they do make this the new riding partner with the Hawaii Five-O for the final 5 seasons.

Will there be a HTF review for the Mannix: The Third Season R1 set, out a week on Tuesday (27th October)?

Did they ever do a Halloween and Christmas episode on Mannix?

Was the title sequence and theme tune changed much over the show's eight season run?

Good questions.  I used to be a Mannix fanatic but I haven't seen the show since its original airings until the DVD releases.  I don't recall any holiday theme episodes but that's probably because I don't remember them.

As far as the theme, it changed, IIRC, a couple of times thru the series but kept the main theme intact.  I liked the orignal version the best then the later "piano" version.  IIRC, there was a later saxophone version?  But my memory's dim on this stuff.

I posted this a couple of years ago but I still can't shake a dim memory of the musical group "5th Dimension" in a cameo appearance in one Mannix episode.  Mannix stopped by a recording studio to see a client and the 5th Dimension was in the studio cutting an album.  I am curious to see if that was in a later episode.  I think this show has a good chance of seeing the complete series DVD release.
Someone said on here I think, that all eight seasons have been digitally remastered. It would be ideal if CBS DVD released the last five seasons of Hawaii Five-O and Mannix side by side at the same time.

I ordered the 3rd season and i should have it next week. I have just recently purchased Hawaii Five-O the 7th season and have started watching it. I love the late 1960s to early 90s tv, but, after that i only a small interest in a few shows.

The episodes look great in the 3rd as well, really good picture quality, this is one show that refuses to look bad anyway.
