Gossip Girl season 1 thread

Anyone at all interested in this show??
It premiers Wednesday Sept 19th on the CW

Kristin Bell is in this as Gossip Girl, which I'm told is narration only.
I don't think this has much promise and will just be another CW teen mellow drama yawn.

Re: Gossip Girl premiers 9/19/07

I downloaded the free pilot off iTunes the other day, but have not watched it yet. Hopefully, I will get to it tonight. To be honest, the only reason I grabbed it is for Kristen Bell.

BTW, what's up with iTunes lately? It seems like these free TV shows are only posted for 24-48 hours before they disappear. I would think it is in the network's best interest to leave these up for a while to ensure that viewers get an opportunity to sample their new series.

Re: Gossip Girl premieres 9/19/07

Just a reminder for tonight's premiere of Gossip Girl (though it does sound a little like The O.C. meets Manhattan with its contingent of teen/college aged characters). But it does have Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, so it's worth a look, especially since nothing else is on in tonight's 9 p.m. EDT timeslot.

Re: Gossip Girl premieres 9/19/07

With the terrible way CW/UPN/WB advertises their programs, it's always hard to tell whether a show's going to be a Gilmore Girls/Veronica Mars/Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Dawson's Creek/Felicity. I guess watching it is the only way to tell.

Re: Gossip Girl premieres 9/19/07

I finally got the download of this first episode.

I sorta of liked this and think it will get better as time goes.
But I think you might have to be a fan of, or have read the Gossip Girl books, to better understand whats going on.
It seemed to throw you in the middle of everything right from the start.
Which is why I'm going to have to watch the pilot again, to get all the characters straight.

It's more grown up than a normal teen drama, which I like.
Kristin Bell is great at narrating the show.
But I was a little annoyed at how she talks at times in the shortened form of the names. (ex. It seems that B and S are fighting. C and J are at the party)

I had a guilty pleasure for Cruel Intentions and that is the vibe I'm getting from this.

I'll be giving this more of a chance than Cavemen and K-Ville.

Re: Gossip Girl premieres 9/19/07

Well, it does have streaks of "The O.C." in it, but it spins it with the Humphries kids being the outsiders, and Serena being the insider who isn't as enamored by the privileged life that these spoiled NY brats live anymore. Chuck is one nasty dude, a total rich a-hole with no redeeming qualities from the onset.

The pilot is okay, but not as interesting as I had hoped, but I'll stick around for a few more episode to see how it levels out. Meester is decent as Blair, but I thought Blake Lively looked a bit too old as Serena, a high schooler. The adults sharing a past is a little too convenient, even for an island town.

Well, it didn't suck. But it really needs Bret Easton Ellis on the writing staff.

Here is a description of next weeks episode

The Wild Brunch

There's nothing GOSSIP GIRL likes more than a good cat fight - In the wake of the scandalous Kiss on the Lips party, Serena receives an icy cold reception from her former best friend Blair, who reveals that she knows Serena slept with her boyfriend, Nate, before mysteriously running off to boarding school. As if it couldn't get any chillier, Serena decides to take Dan to arch-enemy Chuck's fund-raiser brunch at The Palace, and Jenny seeks advice from Blair, who realizes she may have something to gain by allowing Jenny into her inner circle.

I like the premiere. This could be my new guilty pleasure of the fall.

Re: Gossip Girl premieres 9/19/07

I almost bailed after 10-15 minutes but my inner self said stick with it. Glad I did. I won't go as far as saying it's a slam dunk but its 's worth a few more views to see if it has legs.

Also as a fan of Matthew Settle's performance as Capt. Ronald Speirs in BoB I hope we see more of him.

Re: Gossip Girl premieres 9/19/07

It left me cold. I love shows about young people, ie, Buffy, Veronica Mars and even the OC but I couldn't identify with these people one bit. They were spoiled, overly dramatic brats. The show was way too dark and not at all fun or campy enough to want me to come back weekly.

Me as well. I ditched my Season Pass for it on my TiVo.

Re: Gossip Girl season 1 thread

The second episode didn't quite do much for me, and I think it's because the male characters are sort of blah, without much of an edge to them yet. I'm was hoping for some knock-out, drag-out catfights to erupt between S and B, but it's been a little too civilized.

I'm still into this show.
I think its a guilty pleasure for me.

the only interesting thing that happened in this episode is Chuck's dad and Serena's mom?

If anything, I like the look of the show.
I'm in untill the end(or until it gets bad)

Re: Gossip Girl season 1 thread

A very pleasant surprise.

A mature drama aimed at young adults. I liked it a lot.

Good writing, acting. I'll stick with this one.

Re: Gossip Girl season 1 thread

Poison Ivy episode was just so-so.
Blair is still a bitch. I actually kind of like the maneuver Blair pulled on Serena at the usher party

Even though Blair apologized to Serena and read her that letter, I think Blair did it for herself, to make herself feels better.
Blair still can't be trusted.

I like Jenny and Eric getting together.

Next weeks episode Bad News Blair sounds more interesting

Re: Gossip Girl season 1 thread

Well, it's better than Reaper, but that's not saying much. I wish they would decide what kind of show this is going to be, currently, it's still sort of aimless.

I am still watching it but hate the voice over (more so what is said than how it is said).

Bad News Blair episode was okay.
Nothing too interesting happened.

But I do like Dan and Serena getting closer.
And Blair excepting Dan.

And I'm assuming Nate is being cut off by his father for not wanting to go into Darmouth?

Re: Gossip Girl season 1 thread

Jenny, Jenny, Jenny, she's growing up fast, and ain't backing down to Blair's BS.

I'm almost warming up to the stuff with the parents.

Looks like they are trying to push Dan into the macho fist-swinging dude a la Ryan on "The O.C.". At least it gives him a bit more personality with his protective side engaged.

I didn't really miss Chuck or Nate in this episode.

Re: Gossip Girl season 1 thread

Things are starting to get a little interesting. I can't wait until the next episode.

Glad to see Jenny lock Chuck on the rooftop. And things will get worse for Blair.

I'm still not liking the parents hooking up. But it's not bad, just don't prefer it right now.

But I do like Jenny inching her way into Blair's world.

And I like how Nate was basically forced into confessing about the hidden drugs instead of doing it out right himself.

Re: Gossip Girl season 1 thread

Victor,Victorla

was an overload of lying cheating, secret keeping, sleeping with one another.

I also laughed at Nate's moms reaction to her husbands drug use

The weakest of season 1 so far.

Re: Gossip Girl season 1 thread

did we loose some of the fans?

Seventeen Candles- wasn't too impressive.
But I did like the theme of Blair's Party.

And Nate's mom is way diluted.

I like the addition of Vanessa.

For some reason I'm still hanging on with this show.

Re: Gossip Girl season 1 thread

I'm still watching, just fallen behind with this one.

I didn't think Victor, Victorla was bad. Chuck seemed like he was the only one who got Blair, so no surprise that they got together. Haven't watched Seventeen Candles yet.

I wonder, what fans of the books think of the TV series? I never read them, so I don't know.

Re: Gossip Girl season 1 thread

There's a special Thanksgiving episode
Blair Waldorf must Pie!

but CW isn't showing it until next Wednesday(the 28th)...which is stupid.

Re: Gossip Girl season 1 thread

New episode was on tonight, so it was good to watch something that wasn't football or a repeat.

If Rufus knew why Lily rebuffed him, I don't know what Dan would do about it. Serena was pretty selfish, but I'm not sure if it'd be all that big a deal to be dating your step-brother if you were dating him before he became your step-brother. Whew. That was a bit confusing.

Blair and Dan's bestgalbud Vanessa were almost civil to one another after Vanessa did Blair a solid, although Blair couldn't let her have something on her and basically kept her around for another year by paying her rent for her.

Nate and Chuck are actually becoming better support players. Chuck and his dad killed me when they double-teamed Serena, so to speak.

Re: Gossip Girl season 1 thread

An entertaining season finale, seeing Blair hit rock-bottom. No surprise that she ends up staying in NYC.
