We've been here since dirt was a rock and who flung the chunk.

I've been here since May 1999. Tend to go back and forth between posting and lurking, so only have slightly over 500 posts. Just changed my avatar yesterday, from one stolen from another site, but I was getting tired of that blue/white thing I had.

I remember joining when the Circuit City DIVX fiasco started. I had worked many years as a movie projectionist so was somewhat of a snob. Loved the fact that most DVDs would be released widescreen, hated the idea that DIVX would dump full screen pan&scan on the consumer. Or that they somehow could time how many times you played a DVD, along with their silly silver and gold versions. Would like to think that in my little way, I contributed to their downfall.

To this day I still have my original 1998 Toshiba DVD player (will finally upgrade to BluRay later this year). But it has been a fantastic player, only three out of literally thousands of discs didn't play properly.

Cheapy sound system and also a 1998 Toshiba 36" CRT, but they've worked flawlessly for what's coming up on 14 years.

But definitely time to shop for a new model.

Not sure how many people joined before me, but I certainly feel like one of the oldies, maybe not nearly as vocal as others, but I'm still here..

To look up an old account I would need either the username or the email address tied to it.

I'm lost on the actual email address since they are so old. Not really that big a deal, but I'd love to actually know.

I don't think I knew enough to make dummy emails back in those days and it's not too hard to access some possibles it could be
davidanorman or davidan or maybe davidn @compuserve.com or @bellsouth.net

and inactive since 2000 or so. The user name would likely be some form of those emails, but I can't remember which variation.

Same here. I believe my player was a 1997 model even, actually. Built like a rock. Still works flawlessly (currently in my guest-room).

That's why I bought a Toshiba HD-DVD later. Equally well-built. Now added a Panasonic Blu-ray player a few years ago, but would have chosen a Toshiba if it had been available.

Yay - I finally get to join the club!

I too, still have a few components in my system that I've had longer than I have been a member here...

My rear surround speakers are a pair of PSB Alphas from around 1997 - they were originally my fronts.

I also still have an old Onkyo 6 disc CD changer that is going strong even though it's not used all that much.

Technically speaking, I still have my first receiver - an Onkyo 828 (it used an outboard Dolby 5.1 decoder) - it's in its original box and would still work, but is pretty much useless as the S-Video monitor out connection isn't working, and other than that it only has composite video...

If anyone is interested in starting a museum of "outdated home theater equipment" I'd be happy to donate it... smile.gif

Cheers!

Let me be the first to welcome the "ambassador" into the club!  biggrin.gif

Congrats, Jason!

I still have my first Akai that I bought in 1982.

I have an Akai still in my lineup -- though it's a turntable from the late 70's. And to play on it the first 2 LPs i bought in the mid 60's -- a Moog (RIP Doc) synthesizer album
and The Beatles Second Album.

I just last night took out my original bought at literally the crack of DVD dawn $1000 Sony 7000 DVD player (with the switches) still functioning, but has long outlived any useful ability
other than being a great CD transport.
