iPod touch (iTouch!) owners thread!

I got mine this morning at Menlo Park NJ. They had less than 10 and only a few left when I got mine. Freehold claims they still arent getting any till the 28th but I doubt that. I had to decide whether I wanted to be an EARLY early adopter or save $30 and wait for it to come to Costco, gadget lust won out, woohoo!

It is GORGEOUS. Pics tonight when I get home. It's also TINY and a fingerprint MAGNET. Glossy as hell with the trademark Apple lickability (tm).

Buuut....
So far I cant get my macbook to recognize it, probably because I havent auto updated it in a few weeks and I cant put it on the network here to update itunes. The windows side of it sees it as a big available hard disk (i dont have iTunes loaded on that half) but the OSX side wont even show it on the desktop, which is what I assume it should do when it finds a iPod (I sync my regular iPod on my Windows Desktop so this could be a bad assumption on my part). Will probably have to wait till I get home, and its a brick until it syncs with iTunes. If I open iTunes manually it doesnt show an iPod connected their either.

Downloading the latest iTunes .dmg file now, I hear that will fix it, fingers crossed.

Re: iPod touch (iTouch!) owners thread!

OK, that worked, it did tell me that a few of my Podcasts wouldnt be synced cause they wouldnt play on this ipod, any idea what that's all about? They are standard iTunes downloaded podcasts, mostly about photography and Photoshop...

I really want an iTouch but it'll have to wait as there's more pressing need elsewhere...but it will be mine

Re: iPod touch (iTouch!) owners thread!

Are those podcasts very high resolution? Do they play on other video iPods?

I'm jealous -- but I think I'm going to get a Nano. A blue one.

Re: iPod touch (iTouch!) owners thread!

Yeah, I'm waiting till the 32 gig version before I get one. I got a Red nano today.
Has anyone tried hacking their iTouch yet to use some of the iPhone apps that aren't included with the touch?

Re: iPod touch (iTouch!) owners thread!

There were some issue with the screens on some of the batches, that and the 16gb made me cancel my order for the Touch, I decided to go with the 80gb classic to compliment my Apple TV, Apple opened up the specs that the Ipod plays so my Apple TV Encodes now play, I don;t have to double encode everything. The Nano is pretty sleek too. Think I'll wait till the problems shake out and may 32gb to pick one up.

So anyone have any feedback on these thus far?

Re: iPod touch (iTouch!) owners thread!

Re: iPod touch (iTouch!) owners thread!

It's the best iPod I've owned, of 4 different ones. The small size has NOT been a problem so far but I would never say no to more space.

Re: iPod touch (iTouch!) owners thread!

Well I bought myself an early b-day present.
I just bought the 8GB Itouch.

I just opened it up and fooling around and trying to get the songs on it the way I want it organized.

I love this thing.
I'm also discovering the podcast store

I also FINALLY got the theme song to the movie Secretary from Itunes.

next I'm converting some of my TV shows.

This is the best

To realize the full potential of Touch you need to jailbreak it!

Re: iPod touch (iTouch!) owners thread!

My only complaint with the Touch is that the touchscreen cannot be used while wearing gloves.

Re: iPod touch (iTouch!) owners thread!

This is such a cool device.

I'm also using the ITouch to put my Rifftrax and Doctor Who Radio Dramas on it.
and along with all the Podcast/Videocast I listen to.

Re: iPod touch (iTouch!) owners thread!

How often do iPod Touch owners get wifi reception outside of their own homes/work? I'm debating between this and the iPhone, but if the Touch gets wifi access fairly often I would find it nearly as useful since I have a separate cell phone and really don't want to incur the extra $20 a month for the iPhone if I don't have to.

Thanks!

Re: iPod touch (iTouch!) owners thread!

I just updated with the 5 apps - fantastic! No iPhones here yet.

Reception: all the time. Free access: not often. It depends on where you hang out, I suppose.

I have a similar question to Carlo Medina's:  I have no use for an iPhone, but like the ability to connect to the internet with the iTouch, thus sparing me the cost of buying a cheap laptop for when I am travelling.  Some friends (NOT experts on iTouch) think that there is a monthly fee for using the wi-fi.  (They've been throwing around a $20-30 price tag on it.)  I have checked out the Apple website, but can't find anything stating that.  Can anyone help me out?  And before anyone asks, I just want something to check/send email, locate businesses while out-of-town and keep up on HTF (it's addicting!).  Also, are sites that use pop-ups a problem?  Thanks in advance!
Short answer: it's free.

The iPod Touch has WiFi hardware. It will connect to WiFi networks. Any cost would be due to the cost of the network, such as at airports or Starbucks. For use at your house or free Wifi at Panera Bread, it's free.

Your friends may be getting confused with the cost of a data plan for an iPhone. That's completely different. If that's a point of confusion, also note that the iPod Touch is WiFi only; if there's not wireless network, it has no web access. It's not like the iPhone and can't tap into a 3G phone network for data access.

Thanks, Dave!
Actually, the "clincher" for me to get this is that I work for Starbucks and when we switched to AT&T last year I now get free wi-fi access while there.  Thanks for the info!  Now I just gotta wait til I get my next 10% off shopping day with my Target Visa to pick one up!

I travel with my iPod touch all the time.  Great for surfing when at hotel or restaurants or hospitals with free wi-fi and you need to look something up, beats lugging a whole laptop with you.

Any sites with flash on them and you are out of luck.

Eric, the Touch line is due a refresh in Sept you might want to wait to get one. What that means is a new model will come out replacing existing. Usually with more RAM for the same prices, a 64GZB model is anticipated. Leaked out cases suggest its also getting a camera. There are more features expected. I would imaging we'll be getting details in a few weeks.

It's frustrating that apple is yet to still support flash, knocks most streaming video right out of there.

Thanks for the heads-up!  I'm in no rush to get one, just looking at options right now.  I already have 2 iPods (a 30G Classic and a shuffle), so this next one is just for the internet connectivity.  I'll keep my eyes (and ears) open for more news!

Macrumors is a good site to get news at or Appleinsider.
If Macrumors is good enough for Jason Segel to mention his love for it in the Forgetting Sarah Marshall commentary, it's good enough for me!

Seriously, I love that site. And I discovered it long before Segel's mention of it. Kind of cool to think we're probably both browsing it at the same time though.

I just bought my daughter the 8 gig iTouch. A couple of questions...

1) How do I get pictures from my computer into iTunes so I can load them onto her iTouch?

2) Does texting or internet cost extra for a service of some sort or is it ready to go and if so how do I set it up?
