Help with cleaning out website files on server

Thread Starter
I recently signed up with Network Solutions to host my website and I originally used their Image Cafe software to create a very basic website (just a home page, actually). I then decided to create my own web pages with an HTML text editor and am now ready to upload the first page.

When I use my FTP program to access the server, I see a couple of folders and several files in the directory, most likely the files that the Image Cafe software created. Is it safe to delete all the folders and files and start fresh? I know the index.html will need to be overwritten with my new home page, but I think most of the other files aren't needed anymore. Is there an easier way to "reset" everything or what is the normal procedure for publishing web pages over an existing site?

Thanks!

Re: Help with cleaning out website files on server

Just upload the new files via FTP and you will be prompted to overwrite any files with the same name.

Any files under the html directory, or whatever they call it on their server (public_html, www), can usually safely be deleted.
