That would be huge, although WYWH isn't on the top of my most wanted Pink Floyd list.

Re: SACD: Is it time for the funeral?

Yeah SACD is no more. I heard that there is a new format in the works that will replace it. Just like the new TrueHD for movies, I think there doing something along those lines for audio?

It was first announced years ago, so 2008 sounds about right.

It is for me, if only for Shine On You Crazy Diamond in 5.1. Another track that might be interesting to hear in 5.1 would be Echoes, but is there any word on an SACD of Meddle?

Re: SACD: Is it time for the funeral?

With the Wish You Were Here release, we may see some life in SACD. The long term prognosis is not good. Still, there are lots of good classical albums in SACD coming out.

Re: SACD: Is it time for the funeral?

PS3 v2 software now does DSD-> DTS encoding on-the-fly for output thru' optical.

now all those PS3 owners with no HDMI can listen to DSotM in surround.. not ideal but better than nothing

It would be great if this could be added to a number of players as it would increase access to MCH audio (even if not hi-res) and provide the same "option B" that is available to DVD-A.

perversely, Sony has removed the SACD capability from the new 40GB version of the PS3. not sure if v2 software still does the conversion, at this point in time

Not that I've heard. Meddle is my most wanted Floyd album, probably followed by the Wall, then WYWH. Unfortunately, Meddle isn't really a radio friendly album, so I doubt that there is a lot of clamor for a release on SACD. I'm waving the flag though

Wow, that's bizarre. Probably couldn't afford the rights

Re: SACD: Is it time for the funeral?

Kurt,

*LOL* you may not be far off the mark, though... seeing as they are losing money on every PS3 sold, they could perhaps save a few bucks if they didn't build in SACD capability into the new machines
