A lot of these were expected, but there are some surprises on there as well, such as Burton's Batman (which looks to be HD-DVD only - IME features I presume?), Batman Anime (might be the rumored anime "prequel" to The Dark Knight that bridges the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight), the theatrical cut of Superman II, SUperman: Doomsday, Twister (w/ cover art) etc. It also lists The Departed: Special Edition separately from the standard version that's out now - are they double dipping it already?

A bit disappointed that there are so few (almost none) pre-1965 classics.
OTOH, I'm glad to see Justice League: The (New) Frontier listed.
Also a bit baffled by the inclusion of The Cincinatti Kid. The other two Steve McQueen movies, both arguably more popular than TCK, were poor sellers. It seems odd that Warner would go back to the well on another McQueen title, when there are a bunch of other classics (and stars) that seem more ripe for exploitation. I know I would be more excited about something like East Of Eden or Rebel Without a Cause...or a especially a new transfer of Giant. Just seems odd to me.

A few of these do look a good ways off though, so I guess the list doens't mean all that much at the moment.

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

ya beat me by a minute Nick

hopefully the mods can merge that post into this thread.
as I said in that thread though, I don't think all that many of these are going to see a Q4 release.
I think its apparent that Dark Knight is at least 13 months off, and some of these other titles are also still in production or likely to be tied into movies still in production.

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

The Goonies!!!

Some other good titles on that list. Glad to see some animated features on there as well. Gives me hope of seeing Looney Tunes sooner rather than later.

L.A. Confidential!!! That will definitely be mine and many others I am sure.

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

L. A. Confidential was rumored awhile back but it's a GREAT list. I'll tell you that I am THRILLED to get Eraser. For me, it's Arnold's last great one. I know some here really like The 6th Day or whatever it's called but Eraser was classic Arnold. Bad Ass and carrying big daddy guns. And we never got any SE disc for Eraser. Just the first 1997 issue with "jump to a scene" features.

Thanks for sharing this!

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

Seeing Heat on that list brings warm feelings to my heart. That is the one movie I have ever really wanted -- nay, NEEDED on HD-DVD.

How did I miss that? That really is a great list. I may have to get another job just for that list.

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

I hope Paul doesn't mind, but I took the list he made and made some tweaks to it.

Listed on Warner's website for both formats unless otherwise noted:

10,000 B.C.
The Adventures of Robin Hood (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
Appleseed Ex Machina
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
August Rush
The Aviator
Batman (1989) (HD-DVD only)
Batman Begins (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
Batman Anime
Bonnie and Clyde
The Brave One
The Bucket List
Caddyshack (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
Casablanca (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
The Cincinnati Kid
Clash of the Titans
Complete Matrix Trilogy (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
Constantine (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
Cool Hand Luke
The Dark Knight
The Dead Pool
Dirty Harry
The Dukes of Hazzard - Unrated (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
The Enforcer
Eraser (HD-DVD only)
The Exorcist (HD-DVD only)
Falling Down
The Feast of Love
Fool's Gold (2008)
Fred Claus
Friends: The Complete First Season
Get Smart (2008)
The Goonies
Grand Prix (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
The Green Mile (HD-DVD only)
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (Obviously being planned, but there's not even a film yet!)
Heat (HD-DVD only)
I Am Legend
In the Valley of Elah
The Invasion
Justice League: The New Frontier
L.A. Confidential
A Little Princess (1995) (Blu-ray only)
Magnum Force
The Matrix films (Sold separately - both formats)
The Matrix Online Game Card (?????)
Men
Michael Clayton
Mutiny on the Bounty (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
Natural Born Killers
Nights in Rodanthe
No Reservations
One Missed Call
Perfect Storm (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
Poltergeist
Poseidon (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
The Promise (HD-DVD only)
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (HD-DVD only)
The Shawshank Redemption (HD-DVD only)
Smallville: The Complete First Season
Speed Racer (2008 film?)
Spring Breakdown
Sudden Impact
Superman Doomsday
Superman II (Theatrical) (HD-DVD only)
Taking Lives - Unrated
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
That's Entertainment
That's Entertainment 2
That's Entertainment 3
That's Entertainment Trilogy Giftset
Twister
The Ultimate Matrix Trilogy (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
V for Vendetta (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD)
The West Wing: The Complete Seventh Season
Whiteout
The Wizard of Oz

Now, some of these are obviously listed because they have been in plans for a while (The Shawshank Redemption on the insert ads, anyone?), while others are complete surprises to me.

Hopefully, the several HD-DVD exclusive (and one Blu-ray exclusive) titles are only listed as such due to how the info is on the website. I mean, I see no reason why The Shawshank Redemption or A Little Princess would be exclusive either way.

Personally speaking, at the very least I'll be getting the following releases on Blu-ray:

The Adventures of Robin Hood
The Aviator
Batman Begins
Bonnie and Clyde
Casablanca
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
The Cincinnati Kid
Constantine
The Dark Knight
Dirty Harry
The Goonies
A Little Princess (1995)
Poltergeist
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
Twister
The Ultimate Matrix Trilogy
The Wizard of Oz

As for some titles being listed twice (like The Departed) - probably a website listing glitch.

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

Very nice!

It'd be nice to get some clarity on the release dates, etc. In due time, I suppose. How many do you think will actually be released Q4? The Dark Knight will be a long way off, for example...

I don't mind.

No, really, I don't mind. I'm glad you added to it, as I just copied and pasted that list from another forum. I'm using an older browser, and the Warner and Fox websites aren't loading fully for me. The only way I can see these is someone lists them.
Those are some interesting additions.
Probably the most pleasant suprise on there for me is Justice League: The New Frontier. I hope this pans out as a day and date release in Feb. I'm very much looking forward to this one as I love the source, especially the depiction of Wonder Woman.

my modest shopping list out of those would be
  • The Cincinnati Kid
  • Clash of the Titans
  • Cool Hand Luke
  • The Exorcist (HD-DVD only)
  • Justice League: The New Frontier
  • L.A. Confidential
  • A Little Princess (1995) (Blu-ray only)
  • The Wizard of Oz

For some reason they list things that we know we won't see for more than a year (the Dark Knight), yet they leave out Amadeus and One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest- both of which they already said were due out in Q1 08.

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

The Goonies and the Dirty Harry series! Fantastic!

I hope that The Exorcist doesn't end up being HD-DVD exclusive... would LOVE to see it on BD.

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

Not to rain on anyone's parade, or come across as ungrateful for indications of intent from a fine hi-def studio, but....very little of this is news. Between the titles that were released long ago, and titles that have been listed as "on the way" virtually since the dawn of the format...very little, indeed.

I'll take several of them, but holding one's breath would be a bad idea. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the titles released in Q4 are nowhere on this list.

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

Not that the list is definitive of anything, but I'm more than a little disappointed not to see the whole damn Superman Ultimate Collection on it.

Otherwise, some really great stuff.

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

I must have:

The Aviator
Batman (1989) (HD-DVD only)
Batman Anime
Bonnie and Clyde
Clash of the Titans
The Dark Knight
The Dead Pool
Dirty Harry
The Enforcer
Eraser (HD-DVD only)
The Exorcist (HD-DVD only)
The Goonies
The Green Mile (HD-DVD only)
Heat (HD-DVD only)
L.A. Confidential
A Little Princess (1995) (Blu-ray only)*
Magnum Force
Poltergeist
Sudden Impact
Superman Doomsday
Superman II (Theatrical) (HD-DVD only)
That's Entertainment Trilogy Giftset
Twister
The Wizard of Oz

*I was just thinking about Cuaron's A LITTLE PRINCESS the other night, remembering how much I loved it and wishing there was at least a decent DVD out there, let alone a high def release. I can't wait to purchase this one!

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

These just look like placeholders. It's nice to know what they have planned though most of these could be coming as far away as late 08.

Aside from the new films (who knows) I'll probably get the following catalog titles.........

Batman (1989) - I'd be surprised if this won't be a box set w/ the 4 Burton/Shitmaker films
Bonnie and Clyde
Cool Hand Luke
The Cincinnati Kid
Heat
Poltergeist
L.A. Confidential
The Wizard of Oz
The Shawshank Redemption
Clash of the Titans - this is a nice surprise
The Exorcist - hopefully the original cut and not "the version I wish I'd never seen" cut

Dirty Harry - though these will probably be box set only.
Magnum Force
Sudden Impact

Strange that the 5 Potter films aren't listed as they're rumored for this year.

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

Ha ha - just noticed my listing was on there twice. Fixed. Glad you didn't mind, Paul.

Clearly some of these released are over a year away, but some will clearly be coming sooner rather than later.

I didn't bother to list them because they are officially announced anyway. they actually list six Potter films, but Half Blood Prince doesn't even hit the theaters until November '08.

I agree Tim. I never bought the SE of Eraser either...just the bare bones original. Can't wait to see this one in HD and some TrueHD would be nice!

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

The Adventures of Robin Hood (comparison shop again)
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (expecting to buy this for certain)
The Aviator
Batman Begins (already have HD-DVD)
Batman Anime (depends)
The Brave One (depends on film)
Casablanca (comparison shop)
Clash of the Titans (also great news)
The Dark Knight (I assume I'll get this)
The Goonies (yes!)
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (any HPs)
Heat (HD-DVD only) - if I could get any one film on this list...
I Am Legend (depends on film)
Justice League: The New Frontier (great news!)
L.A. Confidential (one of my favorites)
Poltergeist (probably)
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (maybe)
The Shawshank Redemption (probably)
Speed Racer (depends on the 2008 film)
Superman Doomsday (probably)
The Ultimate Matrix Trilogy (already have HD-DVD)
V for Vendetta (already have HD-DVD)
The Wizard of Oz (maybe)

Heat is the BIG DEAL for me. Along with some other "almost as big" deals.

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

To my recollection, Warner hasn't let me down yet, except for Rio Bravo. But that's understandable due to the film's age. Since Heat was made in 1995, it HAS to look better than say Bullitt or Dog Day Afternoon.

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

Holy crap! I hope this isn't all coming out in Q4!? Because I'm down for:

Aviator, The
Batman (1989)
Bonnie and Clyde
Clash of the Titans - I can't believe this is coming out on HD! AWESOME!
Cool Hand Luke
Dark Knight
Dirty Harry
Exorcist, The
Harry Potter (All of them being sold seperate)
Heat
L.A. Confidential
Poltergeist
Shawshank Redemption, The
Superman II (Theatrical)
The Wizard of Oz

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

Paul,

Might be a bit difficult to come by The Dark Knight in Q4!

Who knows, maybe some rough footage leaked? Dammit! Are they gonna make us double dip on the rough footage and the actual release in November of 2008?

Cheers,

Jason

Re: Warner lets some of the Q4 releases out of the bag, including some surprises.....

Some random thoughts...

Clash Of The Titans is getting remade, so I'm not too surprised to see that one mentioned- though I don't think it is going to actually show up anytime soon.
The Exorcist has an anniversary next year, so that isn't much of a surprise either.
As are the Dirty Harry movies since they were mentioned last year (to tie-in with a video game release iirc).
Bonnie & Clyde, Cool Hand Luke both previously mentioned (and B&C is derived from a 4K transfer as is Blade Runner- not sure about CHL, but that one probably is too).

The only real suprises for me in that list are
-The Goonies (didn't realize this as popular as it was)
-A Little Princess (totally out of left field, but very happy to see it mentioned- this should look great if they give it a new transfer. iirc the old one is pre 2000)
-Cincinatti Kid (probably one of the last pre 1970 movies I would have expected )

Equally baffling are no mentions of
-Arthur (they said a new transfer had been made back in 2006...what are they waiting for with this one?)
-Contact (looks like they are going to miss the 10th Anniversary- big disappointment)
-How The West Was Won (supposed to be getting a new SE next year, seems odd they wouldn't pencil it in)
