Yes, this has been a very interesting season for Survivor and this Top Ten Challenge. And I'm now able to announce that we have been able to sweeten the pot by coming up with what I consider to be an amazing prize on such short notice. The winner from our "short list" will get a copy of The Battlestar Galactica: Season One Boxed Set (6 discs!) on HD-DVD. (This is a brand new set with a list price of $99). Hopefully the winner will be able to use these discs (or may take the opportunity to get involved with HD media). As an alternative, you could always trade the set with someone for some discs of your choice or give somebody a kick-a$$ gift! This is up to you.

All and all, a pretty exciting prize for such an "exclusive" contest. Once the word gets out about our next Top Ten Challenge (probably American Idol in January) I'm sure there will be many more entrants. We will be offering a media prize once more and prefer to wait until near the end of the contest before announcing the exact prize so as to provide recent discs.

Reminder: The finals are this coming Sunday night.

Actually mike, when does the next BB start? I see they were advertising for entrants on CBS the other day. If I recall correctly, BB follows American Idol. We are hoping to be able to offer a prize for each of the Top Ten Challenges from now on (as long as our supply of media doesn't dry up.) I would like to see the prize for each contest be of the same caliber as what we were able to snag for the Survivor Challenge. You should get your chance in a future BB Top 10 contest. The only "downside" is that a prize offering will probably spur a large number of entrants. I might have to teach myself lookup table on Excel all over again if the entry list grows. (Right now I'm doing it manually since entry time is minimal). Time will tell. Stay tuned....

February 7th would be about the same time as American Idol probably gets down to its "final 14" or so. Let me see what kind of workload AI requires (assuming that the awarding of a prize attracts a lot more entries to the Top Ten Challenge). If it's not too onerous I'll try to run both Top Ten Challenges. Otherwise I might ask for assistance on the second contest (whatever that is).

Dheiner is establishing a score that will be hard to top in any future Top Ten Challenges! He nailed the five spot with his selection of Peih-Gee and has four successive perfect scores. Quite impressive.

In the race for the prize (HD-DVD Battlestar Galactica Season One boxed set) it's still wide open. phil-w holds the current lead at 26 but that's a "false" lead since he's must add at least 6 points for his pick at #10, Denise. Therefore we won't be able to proclaim a (prize) champion until the final vote on this coming Sunday evening's show. (I would guess that it might be possible to figure out from all the possibilities who is actually still in the running for the prize but I'll reserve that for others if they so desire. The simplest thing is to wait until Sunday.) In any event, the real champion - decided some time ago is Dheiner.

As usual, full details appear in the first message in this thread.

A quick look over shows that either Phil or Anthony is most likely to win. The deciding factor seems to come down to where Denise finishes. Denise finishing 1st or 2nd throws the door a little wider open for everyone. But if it finishes Amanda and Todd as 1-2, there is no way to beat Anthony.

It's Official!

Dheiner set a new standard by ending up with a grand total of 9(!) points including an amazing run of six straight perfect picks before the exciting conclusion. Until this score is bested in future HTF Top Ten Challenges (hard to imagine) it will forever be known as The Dheiner Line!

And since John (Dheiner) graciously declined the prize our winner of the HD-DVD Boxed Set of Battlestar Galactica: Season One is phil-w. While he finished fourth in the final tally, all above him (including yours truly in second place) were not eligible for, or declined the prize.

I'll be contacting phil-w to make arrangements to have his prize mailed to him. Alternately, if you are reading this, phil, you can e-mail me your address at

to expedite matters.

Thanks to all for a great season and look for our next contest some time in January 2008 when we announce the HTF American Idol Top Ten Challenge using the same format. As before, we will probably as for entries as soon as the field is narrowed down to 14 contestants on the show. And, of course, there will be a prize for the winner. Once again we will wait until the last few shows to announce the exact prize so as to offer current discs.

Well... what a surprise this turned out to be. As the season progressed, I never thought I would end up in first place.

What an exciting prize as well. I am a big fan of BG, and am a supporter of HDDVD, and am stoked to get the first season.

I am traveling right now, but will be back in a few hours, and will be in touch.

I want to thank RAF, and the Home Theater Forum, and I especially want to thank Dheiner for graciously bowing out of the contest, before which, none of us would have had a chance.
