Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

I envy you guys....

If you can, try to find out any info on the new Yamaha receivers with multiple HDMI 1.3 inputs and the ability to decode all the new loseless sound formats. (I need a new receiver to plug the EMA players into )

Have a GREAT and SAFE trip!

Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

Sam- will do
Rick- don't worry I only expect to see player and title announcements from both sides.
Raul- I'll also be checking out Denon, Onkyo, Sony and Sherwood. I'll cruise through Pioneer, but from what I hear their receivers only have two HDMI inputs this year!

Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

Could you guys dig up the full specs from the 3rd generation Toshiba HD DVD-players:
*HD-A3 ($299.99, October 2007)
*HD-A30 ($399.99, September 2007)
*HD-A35 ($499.99, October 2007)

Press release:
http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/st...4639654&EDATE=

I´m sure that many people would like to know that will e.g. A35 use Silicon Optix "Reon-VX HQV video processor" like XA2 (US) / XE1 (Europe).

At least the guys from Silicon Optix are present:
http://www.hqv.com/news/HQVHollywood...TOKEN=98951011

Some of my speculation/etc here:

Thanks!

Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

Jari K, The A3, A30 and A35 all share the same video processor. Only the XA2 boasts the Silicon Optix Reon processor.

I put up my own .pdf data sheets with most technical spec's. on the A3, A30 and A35 on our HTF exclusive page.

Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

Robert-
You mention in your specs that load times are faster on the gen three boxes. I didn't time it with a stopwatch, but my experience with the gen three it seemed like the load time was pretty close to that of a gen two player. How much faster is it? It still seems like the XA2 is the player to beat (or should I say the new Onkyo).

Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

Hi,

Any information on MSRP reductions on the Toshiba XA-2 (the HD-DVD flagship model) as well as well as when models with the firmware updates will be readily available would be appreciated.

Also, an advance "thank you" to Adam and the gang for going and for reporting back when it is done. I like knowing that the HTF reports will be factual and a no-spin zone. It is tough sledding through other internet resources trying to separate what's real vs what's hype/fantasy. Example: both sides claiming WHV will go exclusive to their side at CEDIA.

We are going to see new player intros and probably some title release dates from both sides, that is it. No format war winner will emerge from CEDIA this year, I can't see any major studio announcements (short of title releases).

When you mention firmware updates are you referring to the 1080P/24FPS updates for the XA2 and A20?

Yes...Robert Zohn has made mention of this plus something about high bit rate (HBR) audio passthrough as well.

Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

Steve ^^ correct.

Also as Adam said, no studio announcement are expected at CEDIA.

Adam, the only Gen 3 machines I have seen have been engineering prototypes. I do not have any hard facts, but I have been told with confidence that the Gen 3 players are much faster. We should see final production Gen 3 players at CEDIA.

Ditto, and they didn't seem any faster. I'll have to bring my stop watch to CEDIA.

Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

Guys,

Please check out Samsung's BD-UP5000 hybrid Blu-ray and HD-DVD disc player. I'm eager to find out if this unit will pass Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio to a capable audio receiver (like the new Denon, Onkyo and Sony units). I would also like to find out how well it handles BD-J and HDi features on movies like "300", "Batman Begins" and "Pirates of the Carribean".

Thanks in advance.

Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

Adam,

Try and get me a free A3 or A30.

Hey, it's worth a shot, no?

Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

Adam and Robert,
I hear you guys met my buddy Jon Spackman from AVSFORUM.
Hope you all are having a blast...wish I could have been there.

So which chipset are the new 3rd gen players using? (I am have already asked the following else where so I apologize if this is redundant) Are the new players able to send out the HD audio bitstream to a compatible receiver or are they still doing internal processing first?
Would really like to know what announcements Runco plans for their lineup of front Projectors. Also interested in any hi-performance 3 chip front projectors.....thanks!

Someone told me the chipset earlier today and I didn't write it down. I will find out.

The A35 will have the ability to decode internally or pass the bitstream. Everyone I have talked to at the show, has said that it doesn't matter where the decoding takes place.

Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

Thanks Adam! I saw last night that the Toshiba rep in Ron's video had mentioned the 35 could pass bitstream but it wasn't clear that that was the only model capable of doing so. The only reason I'm really curious about bitstream is that I'm looking to upgrade my receiver and am trying to determine the importance of being able to handle raw HD audio feeds.

Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

The chipset in the A30 and A35 is the same that is currently in the A20. Again, everyone that I have talked to has said it makes no difference if the player does the decode or the receiver does.

Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

If you have a display that accepts 1080/24 either the A30 or 35 will be fine, if not, it may be worth it to step up to the XA2, which doesn't currently support bitstream, but is rumored to get that functionality eventually via a firmware update.

Something I'm hoping for!

I'd be interested in news about any other companies besides LG and Samsung that may be releasing Blu-Ray/HD-DVD combi players just in time for Christmas. (Any wonder what's on my wish list?) Tom

How were the boot-up and loading times on the Venturer player and the new Toshiba models?

None. They are it.

I haven't had a chance to test this yet. I am going to come out and say that while no one will confirm it, in my opinion the Venturer is a rebadged Toshiba A3. I'll go into more detail in another report later.

I also wanted to say that while I think the gen 2 Toshiba is slow to power up (still faster than gen 1), I couldn't believe how long the Sony S300 takes. It's easily twice as long as the Panasonic!

Definitely interested in hearing the comparison of these players as well as comparisons to the 2nd gen Toshiba players.

Re: Getting ready for CEDIA...Any requests?

It definitely looked a LOT like the A3 in the video posted in the CEDIA section.
