Re: The Simpsons Movie on December 18

Extras list is a little thin - I'm expecting a 2-disc SE at some point.

(Although they probably covered most stuff about the show on the season box sets).

Well, even on all the boxed sets there has never been very much "Making of" material. The extras announced seem consistent with the boxed sets. I'm surprised there seem to be very few deleted scenes. I though I read somewhere on this forum that there was tons of stuff that was cut.

It was probably cut at the script level, though - animation is time consuming and expensive enough that filmmakers take much more care to animate only that which will wind up being used.

True, but I think that someone on one of the Simpsons move threads quoted Matt Groening himself saying that there was a lot of finished animation material that was cut from the final film. Maybe I'm just remembering wrong though.

According to what I've read, the Simpsons movie is unusual in that the filmmakers continued playing with the movie well into production, and indeed did excise several scenes that had already been fully animated. The Wikipedia article on the move describes this in more detail. Curiously, it also quotes Groening as saying that the deleted material included on the DVD will be "probably enough for two more movies," which seems not to be the case according to the listed specs.

Where are the Burger King ads?

I thought this was gonna be an uber-loaded 2- or 3-disc set...

It will be when The Simpsons Movie 2 comes out.

I suppose there's a possibility that they want to hang on to a number of deleted scenes so they can use them as gags in the sequel or on the series.
