Actually, I sent the check for the XA2. Seemed like the right thing to do.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Right on, Matt--me, too.

The point I was/am trying to gently make is that I think it's wee premature to say we're in the "home stretch": us XA2-ers don't even know yet if our players have hit Archway to be shipped yet.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Overall FWIW I think we are in the "home stretch" A2s should be shipping (still waiting for tracking numbers), most of the BDs will be shipping next week, Heroes has shipped (still waiting for tracking numbers), there are 19-20 players out of almost 140 that I am still waiting to hear status on, and a few titles that haven't been released yet. From my perspective we are in the home stretch---That doen't mean that I am letting up at all to find out the status of the XA2s, or getting the tracking numbers of the A2s....

Re: HD DVD player updates

As long as you're not being given less-than-accurate information by a non-fulfillment house source as, per our PMs, in the past, Adam--disco.

Call me a pessimistic realist, I just will be concerned about an October Surprise until I receive my XA2: I don't want them to send us $100 refunds along with HD-A35s instead.

Am I a freak, or is that a Raiders reference?

Wait--don't answer that.

Actually wouldn't it be Last Crusade?

And if I'm right and you're wrong, what does that make me?

Snap!

I think that makes you Stanley Goodspeed's brother . . . a "superfreak," just not chemical.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Anyone receive Heroes yet? I would think if they shipped last week, someone might have received theirs by now depending on how close they live to the shipping location.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Jason,
What's the shipping location?

Re: HD DVD player updates

Raul,

Oh, I don't know. I was assuming that wherever it is, there might be someone that is close enough to have received it by now. Of course, that all depends on what exact day they shipped out.

I will have "real" updates for you by this time tomorrow, including A2, XA2, Panasonic and titles.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Oh boy...pleeeeeease tell me Knocked Up has shipped. I canceled my Amazon pre-order because I knew we were getting it through the EMA channels. My wife and I are jonesing for it.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Wow, until just now, i had totally forgotten 'Knocked Up' was one of our free titles. I walked around my local mall yesterday, and actually tried to purchase this title. For some reason none of the three stores that carry HD titles had this film in HD, only the standard Def version. Couldnt understand why it wasnt available, but now i know..the HD gods were looking out for me. HAHA

Re: HD DVD player updates

Howdy!

Hasn't anybody gotten one (or two) of their HD players over the last week yet? I was momentarily thrilled by a FedEx package that arrived yesterday that was just the right size to hold a High Definition DVD (though too light for "Heroes"). Turned out to be some extra speaker wire terminals from WireLogic. Oh, well. :-(

For those who are interested, dvdfile.com has just reviewed the HD DVDs of "Elizabeth" and "Last Starfighter."

As of last night, my new system is all set up and ready for HD players (aside from possibly needing another HDMI cable). Yeehaa!

Toodles;

Re: HD DVD player updates

Hey Guys!

Listen, I just want to add a few personal comments based upon
private messages that have been forwarded to me from some of you.

First, I'd like to say thank you to Adam Gregorich. He has been
thrown in the middle of a very unfortunate situation having to deal
with problems regarding the HD-DVD player delivery. Adam has
been pushing for delivery of these players over the past few weeks.
Every single setback has been through no fault of his own. It is
just unfortunate that there has been a lack of communication
between Toshiba and the shipping warehouses. There has been
substantial progress made over the past day, and I will leave
it to Adam to inform all of you later today or tomorrow.

I think I have already told you guys that none of the other
hundreds of EMA attendees who paid $99 for their HD-DVD player
have had their checks cashed yet. In other words, as concerned
as some of you may be -- there are hundreds more griping that
they haven't received their promised player.

Someone also alluded to the fact that HTF and BITS staff have
already received their Panasonic players first. While it is true
that Bill Hunt and at least one of our staff members received
a player, there are still many of us who have not. Adam, Parker
and I have not received our players. Fact is, The first 20 Panasonic
players went out in no random order whatsoever. No preferences
were given. It was purely luck of the draw.

We feel bad. We promised you players in 4-6 weeks. That was based
on information we were initially given. It has now been over 8 weeks
and we so much appreciate the patience all of you have shown.

I am going to ask that all of you remain patient. As I stated above,
Adam should have some news for you later today. These delays
have been out of our hands, but I assure you that if not for Adam
aggressively getting on the phone time after time, we would certainly
not be this close to getting delivery.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Not a problem Ron, we know its not your guys faults at all.

I did get an email notice of a package coming my way from Raleigh that is 5.2 pounds I suspect that might be one of the players but the sender did not provide any contact details.

Sam-If memory serves me you upgraded to a XA2. It weighs a lot more than that.

Re: HD DVD player updates

The Panasonic BR player is around 10lbs. I assume the Toshibas are at least that.

Re: HD DVD player updates

As promised I have some updates tonight.

XA2s:
First for those of you who ordered XA2s, half of you will receive your player tomorrow (Thursday 9/26), the other half on Friday (9/27). In an effort to get the XA2s out the door, Ken is having them shipped direct from Toshiba. If you haven’t yet sent in your payment to the fulfillment house you are still expected to do so—as of last week there were still a few stragglers. We didn’t want to hold up the players any longer while we waited for a tally of who had paid. If you all have paid, then thanks for your patience. If not please submit your payment immediately. I should have the tally next week, and I am hoping that by them everyone will have submitted their payment.

A2s:
Everyone who is getting an A2 should expect to see it this Friday.
Tracking numbers:
I believe that both were shipped via FedEx. I won't have tracking numbers until tomorrow (Thursday). Based on my schedule I would rather not have to rush out tracking numbers to everyone since the A2s were shipped two-day and the XA2s overnight, in other words you may get your player before I can get you the tracking number. If you don't have a player (or a FedEx door tag) by the end of the day on Friday send me a PM and I will get you a tracking number.

Titles:
I think Heroes "may" be getting shipped with the A2's. Check the box to see if they are inside. For those getting the XA2s let me know if you don't receive it by Friday night by posting in this thread and I will get it taken care of next week. Transformers won’t be released until mid October, so don't count on receiving it until the third week in October. Knocked Up, Elizabeth AND The Last Starfighter (a thanks for your patience add-on) will ship out either the end of this week or the first part of next week.

Blu-Ray: My contact at Panasonic is waiting for the last batch of players to be released. She has the paperwork ready to go as soon as they arrive. She has told me that she is hoping that they will be able to go out this Friday, but it could be as late as the middle of next week. When I know that they are going out I will let you know. They should go out FedEx ground from the West Coast, so it may take up to a week for them to arrive.
I would like to thank all of you for your patience. The Blu-ray delay has been due to player availability. The HD DVD delays were initially due to player availability, and then due to the fact that they got lumped into the EMA attendees process.

I also really need to thank Ken Graffeo from Universal. He called me last night unprompted and apologized that this hasn’t run as smoothly as they should have and that he was going to step in and personally take care of everything….and he has. On one hand yes I know that things shouldn’t have come to this, but on the other had if he hadn’t stepped up like he did I would still be spinning my wheels for another week or two. I was also amazed that someone at his level personally took the time to call, accepted responsibility (buck stops with him) and apologized, when he could have left that to others. He has earned my respect.

One final note: With 70 players, and software being sent from multiple locations there may be a hiccup with one or two shipments. In the unlikely and unfortunate event that it happens to you I will work to get it fixed ASAP, but I would ask for your patience in advance. Most of my contacts are out of town and at Digital Life in New York, so it may take a day or two to track down people and mis-directed shipments.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Thanks, ADAM...
Thanks, KEN GRAFFEO...
Thanks, RON...
Thanks beyond counting to each of you, and to the MANY others who are helping to bring these gifts to us.

If they arrived by 2008, I'd still be deeply indebted, and grateful, to so many folks, for their kindness and Hard Work. These items aren't cheap, shipping isn't cheap. Overnighting is FAR from cheap. Spending time on the phone or e-mail, as Ron and Adam do, is not cheap, easy, OR well-paid.

It can't be said enough... but it can be said once more.

Thank you. I appreciate it.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Two poems,
humbly submitted for your reading pleasure (?).

Ron,
among us homey theater gangstas,
he is the Don.

Adam,
On his back,
We should pat 'em.

And you thought the American poet was dead.
