HD DVD player updates - Page 2

Re: HD DVD player updates

Super news, Adam. Many thanks! My Summer's-End Party is the 22nd.
I'll be on pins and needles hoping at least one player arrives at least a few hours before, so I can integrate it and SHARE the joy with my friends.

Get this...
I bought an Ultra from Ron(SVS), while we were in LV.
EMA throws us 2 fantastic players.
I figure I'd better step up my receiver to stay HDMI/7.1 current, so the
Integra 7.8 now powers the speakers and sends signal to the SVS.

But the kicker is my roomie's old Mitsu RPTV up and dying, 2 weeks ago.

So, with the HD players still pending, he bought a new Mitsu 57 RP to take full advantage of all the Post-Vegas gear I basically brought home!

We're essentialy all-new, except for the speaks, but they're in great shape. So the BD and HD players are making me ache with anticipation to finally tie it ALL together. To play 300...Loud. To watch Heroes in the dark, at night. Everything in Digital A&V. I may miss a few days of work once these players arrive, but it will definitely be something to hear and see.

Thank you Adam!
Thank you, Ron!
Thank you EMA!,
and
Thank you HTF, for being the most rewarding place I've spent time online for nearly 10 years!!

Re: HD DVD player updates

Wow, Transformers, Knocked Up, and a TBD title. Awesome!! I can now cancel my Knocked Up pre-order at Amazon. Thanks so much for letting us know. Looking forward to getting them.

Cool! Thanks for the update, Adam!

Matt, your new setup is AWESOME!

Re: HD DVD player updates

Cool. Sounds like a double double dip to me for Knocked up and Heroes, maybe I will do some kind of HTF contest or something for those two titles since Uni has provided me with a Heroes for review and I'm on the list for the same with KU!

Re: HD DVD player updates

Speaking of HEROES.... has anyone recived their copy yet? Is it being shipped with the players?

You are all probably aware of that particular feeling you get while browsing in your favorite video store and holding the HEROES box in your hand....

Re: HD DVD player updates

Heroes shipped with the players.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Do you know how these are being shipped? UPS? FedEx? USPS? I'm also going to be out of town at the end of this week so I'm concerned about them sitting on my doorstep for a few days before I return.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Are they coming from Minnesota?

Cause I can see Minnesota from the roof of my house.

Okay, not so much but it's only a 5 hour drive to Minnesota, so, hey, you know, could come quite soon.

Edit*

I'm not even entirlely sure why I would thinkt that they would come from Minnesota but it sure sounds good.

Adam,
Do you have any info on shipping of the players? UPS, FedEx, USPS?

Thanks as always,

Raul

BTW, How was the overall CEDIA experience?

Raul-
I was promised a status update late today on HD DVD and I'll post a Blu-Ray update at the same time.

I'm hoping it wasnt delivered today while I was out and walked with a neighbor

Re: HD DVD player updates

Judging by how long it is taking to get the HD DVD players and titles shipped out to HTF EMA participants, it is no wonder titles are often delayed and/or are slow to get released by the studios.
This is no way directed at you Adam. I know you are busy and there is only so much you can do on your end but coming from someone who is anxious to pop in Heroes in HD along with some great 2007 feature films and show them off to the family, this is taking forever!

Re: HD DVD player updates

Hmm, i'm not so worried about the player, i just want the box set of HEROES, so i can watch it before the Sept 24th premier of the 2nd season. I think i'm gonna have to buy it locally, and HOPE i can return the one that comes with the player. ;-)

Re: HD DVD player updates

OK. There is some confusion as to if the HD DVD players have shipped or not. Ours were to be kept separate from the $99 offer for the other EMA attendees and I'm not sure if that happened or not Ken Graffeo has become involved and I hope to have everything sorted out soon, maybe as early as tomorrow, hopefully by Monday afternoon. Worst case if the players are delayed I will do whatever I can to get Heroes out ASAP. I appreciate your patience and am doing everything I can to get this sorted out.

Moving onto Blu-Ray, the first 20 players will ship tomorrow, the rest by the end of next week (they just cleared customs earlier this week). I have no idea who the first 20 players will go to.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Adam, it unfortunately sounds like you were not able to get confirmation today from Celeste Burau of whether Archway has even received the HD DVD players from Toshiba to ship to us or not.

So questions such as via what means they are going to be shipped and whether we can get tracking numbers can't yet be addressed (?). If indeed 20 BD machines ship tomorrow, may we get an update at that time on this issue as pertains to the BD players please?

On the HD DVD players, may we also get confirmation or refutation of it appearing as though we will not have the players in our hands for another two to three weeks please? If we're looking at late September/early October, I'd like to stop my personal check and send Ms. Burau a money order to replace it.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Since Ken has become involved things are moving behind the scenes. I have some tentative information, but I have learned my lesson and will wait a day or two to provide additional information until I know that it is accurate. They will go out FedEx, not sure if sig required. At this point I am not planning on providing tracking numbers for either HD DVD or BD players as that will be too much work to try to manage assuming I could even get them before players arrived.

Not at this time. Please give me until Monday afternoon to provide more specific information which will include this answer. If you want to replace your check with a money order feel free to send in the money order and ask to have the check destroyed. Not knowing for sure what the timeline is, I would do this ASAP if you want to do it, figuring it may take a week to get there. I would recommend that you issue a stop payment on the check through your bank as well to make sure it doesn't get cashed.

Didn't take it that way, I want players in your hands too. Not to make any excuses for HD DVD, but I think things were complicated by having several offers: $99 + three catalog titles for EMA attendees, free+Heroes (and three new titles) and $299 upgrade+Heroes for our EMA crowd. From what I hear they had a pretty good response rate for the EMA promotion.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Back to the three titles we get: Knocked Up, Transformers, and ??

As to ?? We can have an additional Universal title (sorry Sam). It has to be the same title for everyone to keep it simple. What does anyone think of any of the following:

Evan Almighty
Chuck and Larry
Last Starfighter
Elizabeth
Inside Man
Carlito's Way

Most votes wins. These titles will be sent out separately as they are released.

Note: Being that Last Starfighter is one of my childhood favorites I got a sneak peak a while back and the film scenes looked great, but the first generation CGI in HD looks like something someone did on their Atari. They CGI is clean, but it just shows how far CGI has come since then.

Adam,

I hate to add to your work, but I'm leaving for Canada for ten days on Monday, so if there is any way to get them to hold the shipment of my XA2 until 9/26 (or later) it would be appreciated. The same for the Blu-ray player, if possible, but it sounds like you're not going to be getting any info on whose Blu-ray players are shipping when.

I have someone coming by my house to pick up my mail and packages, but if either player has a signature requirement they could conceivably be returned by FedEx before I get home.

Thanks for anything you can do. If nothing can be done, I'll see what's here when I get home!

Re: HD DVD player updates

Think i'll go for Last Starfighter, recall seeing that one in the theatres as a kid.
Nothing wrong with a little cheese. :-) But whatever wins, i dont care..a free flick is a free flick, right?

As far as FEDEX deliveries go, i'm pretty sure you can contact them and advise them you will be out of town, and have them hold any packages until you return. Then you can call them upon your return, and have the attempt delivery at that time. And if you have someone coming by peridocially, FEDEX will leave a notice. Call them at that point, and have them hold the package.
