Re the casting news, most peculiar: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
how can blond-haired blue eyed "Sark" play a Japanese samurai? OK, even if he isn't blond and blue-eyed (I can't remember from Alias, I just recall he was blond, but that could be from a bottle) he isn't Japanese, or at least "oriental".

Re: Heroes Season 2 ongoing thread

Great news! Can't wait to see how that bit of casting develops on the show.

I figure it's time to start off a season 2 Heroes thread (splitting off the casting tidbits from the season 1 thread), even though we're a month or so away from its premiere episode.

Just to add more casting news

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Nichelle Nichols (Uhura on Star Trek) is also signed for an arc spanning a handful of episodes.

I hear that next year the Heroes will be sued and hire Denny Crane to represent them.

And all of the Heroes with telepathic powers will be forced into a government agency, run by a guy played by Walter Keonig.

Pretty awesome season two promo:

Kind of feels like the Spider-Man movie poster style brought into motion.

Well, some of you will be very happy to know that Hayden turned 18 today.

Consider me drooling.

Awesome casting news, they've got to give Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Kristen
a super power! You cannot Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
hire Veronica Mars and not give her a super power, it's against the rules.

Re: Heroes Season 2 ongoing thread

Holy shit! The mystery person joined the cast and nobody told me!

You can't see it, but this is my over-the-moon face.

Not really sure why this is a spoiler, though.

I personally don't think that casting news is spoiler territory but there are those who do, hence the caution of using spoiler tags. Knowing that someone is in the cast just makes me want to watch it more. Spoiler territory would be knowing plot revealing points about their character.

Re: Heroes Season 2 ongoing thread

That's how I see it. If the name instantly had meaning in relation to the plot, it would be a potential problem. Like, "Michelle Rodriguez is rejoining the cast of Lost!" That would be a big spoiler (and, I just made it up, so stop throwing things). On the other hand, if I said "Laura Vandervoort is joining the cast of Smallville!" that wouldn't be a spoiler at all *unless* I told you who she was playing.

I'm really late to this party, though, and just learned about the first cast addition from the first post. Cool. Loved to hate this person on the last show this person was frequently on. I can totally see spoilers on this one, because of the character involved. Kind of a shocker.

Re: Heroes Season 2 ongoing thread

I understand about the spoiler issue, but ya know what, i've been here for 9 years now and i'm still not sure when I should use them so when I see others do it, I do it.

I make no personal judgement calls in regards to spoilers anymore.

Re: Heroes Season 2 ongoing thread

Interesting cast. But I really need to know what happened to the Petrelli brothers.

Re: Heroes Season 2 ongoing thread

Regarding Petrelli brothers:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Considering they are both in the cast list this year, we have to assume both alive.

Thanks to everyone for such cautious spoilerizing.

But nertz to you, Joe, for not spoilerizing the Denny Crane connection.

Yeah, it's going to be a great season!

Re: Heroes Season 2 ongoing thread

I was one of the foolish ones that didn't watch Heroes when it was first broadcast, which thanks DVD, I'm almost caught up to this excellent show.

Question - was season 1 broadcast in widescreen as shown on DVD? And if so, do you guys know if Season 2 will be broadcast in widescreen? The reason for my question is that Lost is broadcast in "Pan and Scan" unless you watch it on ABC-HD. Why do they friggin' do this? If the show was filmed in widescreen - BROADCAST THE SHOW AS INTENDED TO BE WATCHED regardless of whether one has a widescreen television or not [venting has now terminated]. Back to my question - anyone with an answer?

Greatly appreciated.

That's not exactly a new complaint. Yeah, it was shown in widescreen. NBC is pretty good with running their shows in their proper aspect ratio. Apparently ABC caters to people who don't like the bars on their screen.

What's odd is that Desperate Housewives is shown full screen on ABC and the reruns on Lifetime are played in widescreen. So the actual network doesn't run its own show properly but the channel who plays the reruns airs it correctly.

Re: Heroes Season 2 ongoing thread

Travis, I know what you mean about other stations rerunning primetime shows in wonderful widescreen. There's a French station up here in Canada (CBC - French) that broadcasts Lost in widescreen. It makes such a difference with the original aspect ratio. Crap'n Scanning Lost makes it look cramped.

Thank goodness for NBC showing Heroes in widescreen. Hope they don't get stupid over the summer.

Thank Travis for the update

Whoops! Definitely screwed the pooch on that one. Sorry to anyone who didn't know; I didn't even think of it as a spoiler since I've seen the news EVERYwhere. Admins, no hard feelings if you need to edit those references out.

Re: Heroes Season 2 ongoing thread

I don't think NBC uses widescreen out of any "respect" for the OAR; it's basically branding for them. ER was broadcast that was as sort of a gimmick for Sally Field's first guest stint, then The West Wing went that route, and NBC figured that it made them look more upscale and made it policy. The Law & Order shows stayed 4:3 for a long time, making me wonder if them being 16:9 now is network interference.

I don't care what NBC's motives for using widescreen are, I'm just glad they allow their show's producers to not have to compromise the framing of their show to satisfy HD and SD viewers.
