Spontaneous Combustion

Here is a new one that I have never heard of before. With the temperatures here being 90 - 100 with no rain in two weeks. Playgrounds are catching fire by spontaneous combustion. http://www.wbko.com/home/headlines/9207247.html
How hot has it been for you?

Re: Spontaneous Combustion

We have the same thing happening here in Texas, only the rain actually made it worse.

For two months, endless rain kept the wood moist, which got it to composting quite well. The rain abruptly ended, and temperatures soared into the 100s. The "soup" dried up, but the composting reaction continued. The heat of composting, combined with the blazing sun and high ambient temperatures, was then enough to ignite the wood chips.

Oh, well. At least we don't cover our playgrounds in Mexican jumping beans. In this heat, those things could put an eye out!

Re: Spontaneous Combustion

Many things spontaneously combust. It just isn't often reported. Was there only a globule where the playground once existed? Sorry, seeing this thread title made me think of Spinal Tap.
