XM Radio updates sound quality

This news is a tad outdated as changes were made a few days
ago to XM as far as an upgrade in sound quality. Thought I'd post it
here and then share my thoughts afterwards....

Being one who has been very critical of the poor sound quality of
satellite radio when compared to CD music, I took some time to listen
to XM over the past few days to see if I could hear any improvements.

I have noticed that sound quality has marginally improved. Music does
sound a bit fuller, and for once in a very long time, the muddiness that
was present in many of the decades channels (60s, 70s and 80s) seems
to be a bit more vibrant.

The sound quality still doesn't nearly approach what it was 5 years
ago when the service was in its infancy, but it was so apparent over
recent months that something had to be done to fix the
degrading sound quality of XM and at least this seems to be a start.

Very interested to see if any other listeners have sensed an
improvement in overall sound quality.

Re: XM Radio updates sound quality

I just read this this morning so I didn't know about the improvement until now. I can't say that I've heard any improvement the last week.

Ron, Did you make any changes to your radio (bass, treble, equalizer, etc.)?

Jeff,

No changes whatsoever.

Generally my bass setting are at the highest and treble is
turned down by 10%.

Thanks Ron. I generally boost my bass and midrange (not the same amount) and decrease my treble also. I'll listen closer now to see if I hear any increase in fidelity.

Re: XM Radio updates sound quality

I heard an old Traffic song, "Empty Pages" this morning that sounded as though it was recorded yesterday on Top tracks. The bass was rich and highs were greatly improved. Hats off to XM for a change.
