Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

Any thoughts on which one is "best"?

I know for Vol 1, the consensus seemed to be that the Walmart version was the best to get.

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

The Circuit City flyer for the week is showing "3 Disc plus 4th bonus disc" so I assume they get the default version. Of the 3 discs listed, I'm drawn to the Best Buy bonus disc myself. It's the longer of the two 1988 shows and I'd love to see what one of their '80s shows looked and sounded like. I've only seen them live once and that was in 1996 on the first of their several reunion tours.

I was somewhat late to the party when it comes to Kiss. When I first started getting into hard rock as a young teenager Lick It Up was their latest album. I liked that album so much that it was actually the first CD I ever bought as well way back in 1985. I did of course go back and discover their older material eventually but I have some sentimental attachment to Lick It Up and Animalize.

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

The Wal-Mart disc is the one I want. It is from the Dynasty tour and is the last tour with Peter still on drums. It's also the only tour where they performed songs from their solo albums.

Yeah, that seems to be the most popular one. Walmart had the best bonus disc last time, too. Maybe I'll stop by after work.

Anyone pick this up yet? I'd love to hear your thoughts about it.

I stopped by Wal-Mart last night and of course they didn't have it. I just went ahead and ordered it through them online but it won't get here until next week. I sure wish Best Buy had had the extra disc I wanted.

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

I picked this up Tuesday. I have to say the commentaries are longer than on the ones on Vol. 1, which I appreciated. It was disappointing that the entire Tom Snyder interview was not included, but watchyagonnado? I also wish the MTV Animalize show had been part of the set.

I was never fully aware of the circumstances around Eric Carr's departure, and I was surprised at how forthcoming Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were.

Also, I was bowled over at how good "Attack of the Phantoms" looked on my projector. I only planned to watch a few minutes but ended up watching the whole thing. The music changes actually were an improvement. I always wondered why they didn't use actual KISS music during the fight scenes in the TV version.

I got the non-exclusive bonus disc, but I haven't watched it yet. I plan to pick up the Walmart version since that Largo show was recorded the same week I saw them (for the first time) in Detroit. I was only 9 at the time and don't remember a whole lot.

These sets have been great so far, but I wonder what they've held back for the inevitable superdupermega boxset.

IIRC, they don't own the rights to that. I think it might be available separately, though.

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

I think the DVD for Animalize is out of print. I think I still have the VHS of it around somewhere. I like it because that tour was the first concert I ever attended. Queensryche opened which was a great double bill.

Did anyone who picked this set up from Walmart get the wrong bonus disc?

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

Mine had the right sleeve for the bonus disc, but I haven't taken the actual disc out yet. Did yours come with the wrong one?

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

A friend of mine bought his set from Walmart and when he opened it the sleeve said bonus disc and on the back had the song list but the disc inside was disc 1 from the set. No Largo bonus disc. He tried disc one and it was the same thing. Thought maybe it was just labeled wrong. He is going to take it back to Walmart today and see what they can do. As I know more I'll update.

EDIT: After reading what I wrote I kind of confused myself. Let me try this again:

He opened his Walmart set only to find a duplicate disc one from the Vol. 2 set in a sleeve marked as the Largo bonus disc on the front and the bonus disc contents on the back of the sleeve (song list). He played both discs only to confirm that there was no bonus disc with the Largo content on it. That sounded better.

Kissology Walmart bonus disc snafu:
I have a call into Walmart about this and am waiting for a response. Once I know something I'll update this post.

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

I had ordered this through Wal-Mart online. Originally it was supposed to ship yesterday but they emailed me saying that it would be a little bit longer. I wonder if all of their stock had this wrong disc problem and they are trying to correct it?

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

Thanks, Bob -- I'll check mine when I get home.

Was the disc in the bonus sleeve labeled as the bonus on the disc itself, or was it labeled the same as disc 1?

I believe he said it was labeled as disc 1. That is why he thought that maybe it was just labeled wrong.

Aaron,

Did you check to see if you had the correct bonus disc last night?

They never did New York Groove after this tour? Also, didn't they do a Gene solo tune on the MTV Unplugged show? I can't remember which one, but I thought they did one.

Also, is the sound quality better on Vol. 2 than Vol. 1? Vol. 1 wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either.

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

Walmart will exchanged the Volume 2 set with the correct bonus disc if you run into that situation. No problem. Last time I was there they had alot of copies still on the shelves.

Yes, they did do New York Groove in later shows. This is the only tour where all four members did solo songs in the same concert. Gene did perform "See You In Your Dreams " on MTV Unplugged which is a song from Rock And Roll Over but one he also sang on his solo album.

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

Sorry, forgot to check until yesterday. My Walmart set did indeed have the proper Largo bonus disc.

Note that Walmart recently modified their return policy -- they're stricter now about returning stuff without the receipt, so keep 'em handy just in case!

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

Actually "See You in Your Dreams" was on Rock N Roll Over and Gene's solo.

Thanks. I didn't remember that it was also on Rock and Roll Over.

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

Netflix appears to have the 1979 show, and I just bought the set at Target which had the stock extra disc. Are these shows actually complete? 9 and 11 songs for 1980s+ shows seem awfully short.

I think there are a couple of missing tracks. There are some pretty detailed discussions of that topic in the Amazon forums for the disc.

Are there Easter eggs on the set? The menus show some footage that I have not seen in the actual content.

Here are a couple:

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

Disapointed to see that the Tom Snyder show is incomplete but glad to have it uncut on tape from the old days. Anyone know the story of the old KissVision tapes? Was this something done by Kiss themselves or fans?

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

Volume 3 is coming out in December. I wasn't expecting it to be released so quickly.

Re: Kissology Vol. 2 Bonus Discs

It comes out tomorrow already! I barely even watched volume 2. What's the deal with retailer-specific bonus discs this time around? Best Buy lists a 60-minute bonus but I didn't see what it was.

BB also refers to it as a 5-disc set.
