That's still good though! I haven't seen many of the half hour shows, it has always been an hour long in my lifetime. But maybe we can at least see the first hour long show from 1975...since that is in the mid-70's and the range of shows we are getting on the first DVD release.

Re: What's next for BCI?

This is why I love Holly:

YouTube - The Price Is Right - Holly Hallstrom Appliance Problem

YouTube - TPIR-Holly's 3rd Gibson appliance battle

These are things that should be on DVD:

YouTube - TPIR-Girls Play Trivia Showcase

If a second one comes, please try to get these moments.

I *believe* that one is on there. I think it's "fur free" and it's an important episode.

I'm not sure. If they were on the masters, we left them on. The only things we cut were some episodes had the actual commercials that ran on their first airing. I *REALLY* wish we could've kept them, but they would've been nearly impossible to clear legally.

Re: What's next for BCI?

Did you have to clear the items on the Price is Right as while it is a fun game show, it pretty much is string of advertisements?

I don't know. I hope so, because I *LOVE* the one for Family Feud.

Exactly how I feel. The title of this thread should be changed to "Ask David Levine". We appreciate your knowledge of the industry, and info you share with us about BCI. The Family Feud set looks so cool, and as soon as I get my next check I'm picking it up.

Re: What's next for BCI?

David, is it possible that BCI will sometime down the road release a Family Feud DVD set that highlights the six years (1988-1994) that Ray Combs hosted the show on CBS and in syndication? Ray is my favorite Feud host and I would love to have a DVD set, even if they are all-star celebrity episodes.

Also, regarding The Price Is Right, did Bob ever specify why he didn't want episodes with Dennis James, Tom Kennedy, and Doug Davidson included?

I doubt it. I know a lot of people liked Ray Combs, but I don't think there is enough of an audience. What is more likely to happen is if we do a "Best of" with just families, that we'd include a few Ray Combs episodes.

I'm not sure. I think the allowance for Bill Cullen stems from 2 things:

1. It was a VERY, VERY different show.
2. Bob is a fan of Bill Cullen and is one of the people who considers him among the "Kings" of Game Show hosts.

Re: What's next for BCI?

I enjoyed the Family Feud boxset mostly because it was filled with stars from various shows I enjoy. Getting to see Richard Dawson smooch Richard Deacon on the cheek was hilarious. And because it's all-stars, i'll enjoy watching it down the line and showing it to pals who rave about certain shows. The same goes for the Match Game boxset. It's not about the answers, it's about the panelists interaction that makes it entertaining.

I just find it hard to get excited about watching the Ludd family from Glendale going to for the big money a third time. But watching Lyle Waggoner freakout as he combines questions is fantastic

Exactly.

To be honest, I'm a bit scared of doing a "non star" game show. The hook is so much more limited.

Re: What's next for BCI?

I don't know how BCI gets the rights for shows but any thoughts of releases of any of these shows, love animation

Archie's Bang-Shang Lalapalooza Show (1978)
Fabulous Funnies (1978)
Gilligan's Planet (1982)
Kid Superpower Hour with Shazam! (1981)
My Favorite Martians (1973)
The New Adventures of Gilligan (1974)
The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse and Heckle and Jeckle (1979)
The New Adventures of Tom and Jerry (1980) - this would be amazing
The New Adventures of Zorro (1981) - I havent bought the Lone Ranger/Zorro set yet is this the same series or different?
Rod Rocket (1963)
The Secret Lives of Waldo Kitty (1975)
Sport Billy (1982)
The Tarzan/Lone Ranger Adventure Hour (1981)
Tarzan and the Super 7 (1978)
Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle (1976)
The US of Archie (1974)

This will never happen. Why? Because some of the show's segments (namely, Manta and Moray, Web Woman and Superstretch and Microwoman) can not be released, as Filmation got sued back in the day by DC and Marvel for "copyright infringement" reasons. As a settlement, Filmation (and future heirs to its library) had to withhold those segments from worldwide distribution.

For those who are curious, Marvel sued because they felt Web Woman was a ripoff of their Spider Woman character.

DC sued as they felt Superstretch was a ripoff of Plastic Man, and Manta and Moray, I'm guessing, supposed to be a ripoff of Aquaman and Mera.

Besides, two of the Super 7 segments (Freedom Force and Jason of Star Command) have already been released, so they wouldn't release these a second time.

Besides all this, BCI would be limited to the masters available from Entertainment Rights. When Hallmark converted this stuff to digital, they "stripped out" individual shows from their parent shows (i.e. all Tarzan segments were syndicated under the Tarzan title, not "Tarzan/Lone Ranger", etc.). Hallmark quite likely never converted the original, full-length versions of their various omnibus shows.

Anything that they didn't convert to digital was likely destroyed (as was the case with all editing done to their live-action shows). Long story short: the complete, original 90-minute omnibus versions of The Super 7 may no longer exist in broadcast quality anyway.

The Tarzan/Lone Ranger Adventure Hour (1981)
Tarzan and the Super 7 (1978)

We've put out pieces of some of them.

New Adventures of Zorro is what is in the Lone Ranger/Zorro sets. And the Lone Ranger parts are from the Tarzan/Lone Ranger Hour.

From Tarzan and the Super Seven we put the complete series of Jason of Star Command and Freedom Force was part of the Space Sentinels set.

We put out the Hero High cartoons from Kid Superpower Hour with a few of the live action segments as a bonus, but the Shazam parts are owned by Warner.

Could a deal be struck with DC or Marvel to release such material? Perhaps pair Spider-Woman and Web Woman together?

Actually, I'd rather have Spider-Woman, I wish BCI could work a deal with Marvel for it and other properties.

Re: What's next for BCI?

Thanks to David for his continued participation in this thread!

Back to Price is Right....I don't want to sound callous or cruel, but is the only way to "free" some of these episodes is to wait until Barker passes? The perception is that he's imposing his personal preferences (furs) or animosity/ego (models and other hosts) in keeping certain episodes out of circulation or at least out of the public eye. I'm assuming that he has no ownership interests, just an "Executive Producer" title that carries some clout; is that correct?

Question for David....do you think the market would support a release of a classic Game Show like "What's My Line" or "I've Got a Secret"? The use of guest stars, particularly on the former, could be the hook. I fully realize that the demographic skews older on these shows and that the appeal of the personalities involved would be needed to drive sales.

Thanks.

Maybe? I'm really not sure. I know Bob is very adamant about what "gets out there". I don't know if his estate is the same way, or how that would be treated. I really don't know.

Really good question. I don't know. I think the most "sellable" era would be 70s and 80s with celebs. Hollywood Squares would be great, maybe stuff like Tattletales or Celebrity Password. Someone mentioned The Dating Game using only episodes that have celebrities (either at the time or who would go on to be). I think that would make a killer set.

I just don't know about the older B&W shows. I know they run on GSN, so there has to be some interest. I'd be scared of doing a 4 disc set - maybe a single disc "Best of" to try to gauge interest.

Re: What's next for BCI?

Would Win Lose or Draw be a contender? It had celebrities of the 80s. Although the Newlywed Game was not celebrities there was a level of innuendo that many find appealing. If some of the other shows have less of a chance of selling, would a compilation, mixed bag be doable for a variety of classics that could pull in different fans?

Only if they were all licensed from the same company and it was set up that way from the start.

Win Lose or Draw is a Disney property. They licensed Margaret Cho's TV sitcom out to Shout! Factory, so anything is possible.

I wonder if perhaps the models who sued Bob refuse to agree to a license. After all, the feelings of animosity are mutual.
