Replacement Lamps: Best and Cheapest???

Where are you all getting replacements? The places I have found seem a tad pricey from what I was used to paying.

Re: Replacement Lamps: Best and Cheapest???

I have yet to use it, but bought a spare for my JVC HD-ILA from Discount Merchant so as to have one on hand when my original bulb goes. About $90 off the MSRP. For $160 my TV will be as good as new and ready to run for a couple of more years. Can't do that with a plasma.

Joe

Re: Replacement Lamps: Best and Cheapest???

Thanks for the heads up. However, when doing a Google search on "Discount Merchants " I can't seem to spot a specific website. Can you post the link here?

Thanks

Re: Replacement Lamps: Best and Cheapest???

Sorry, I had meant to make the name a link (it is now.) Don't know how I managed to forget that. And it is Discount Merchant - no "S", which explains your Google problem.

Be aware that the replacement lamps available at the site above are usually for the bare bulb only, not the entire housing unit you get at other places. You'll have to do some careful surgery to install the bulb into the housing. You may get better results by spending a little more to replace the entire lamp unit.

That may vary by model. Certainly the replacement I received for my JVC seems to be the entire housing with the bulb. I would assume that the units sold as bare bulbs are for sets where changing the just the bulb is a more straight-forward affair than for other sets. Of course, I've never replaced a bulb in any set, so what do I know?

Thanks for the link and heads up. Is there such a thing as a cross reference chart for lamps? Especially older, hard to find lamp.

Bump!

I am finding that lamps for my 400Q are getting rare. And the projector still looks as good as the day I first opened it. That's why any cross reference chart would be helpful to me, and perhaps others.

Re: Replacement Lamps: Best and Cheapest???

I think you can find something good with low price in the Amazon, especially when they offer the Friday special.
