These was a failed experiment a number of years ago when CES & VSDA held their shows in the same month, January. It didn't work out for VSDA as there had already been a show in July for the retailers. January is usually not a good month for retailers to attend a show about upcoming product. The 4th quarter is over with and there's no new product being considered this early for the next 4th quarter. As I recall there was little to no coordination between CES and VSDA in terms of mutual interest coverage. It was a disaster for VSDA and never tried again.
But, the industry is constantly changing and Sony Pictures has just announced that they plan to be a major presence at CES in 2008. Sony plans to feature content along side the consumer electronics. The full article can be found here:

I don't know if the focus will be on just released 4th quarter product or upcoming releases. Sony will have a 25,000-square-foot presence at CES. Guess I'll have to be there. If anyone from the HTF EMA group is attending CES let me know. I'll be there as press from Sunday morning January 6 through Friday afternoon January 11, 2008.
