The Visually-Stunning Anime Film Includes “Making Of” Featurette, Interviews, and Commentary by Director Michael Arias

Streets on DVD, Blu-ray™ High-Def and PSP™ on September 25

Culver City, CA (July 30, 2007) – “One of best anime movies ever” (Giant Robot Magazine), Tekkonkinkreet is an action-packed anime film with a deeply resonant story, arriving on DVD, Blu-ray™ High-Def and PSP™ on September 25, 2007 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The first feature-length anime film directed by American filmmaker, Michael Arias (a producer of The Animatrix) from a screenplay by Anthony Weintraub, Tekkonkinkreet is based on a popular Japanese manga written by Taiyo Matsumoto. Bonus features on the disc include interviews with the director and British band Plaid, a 40-minute “Making Of” featurette and commentary from Arias. Tekkonkinkreet has an SLP of $26.96 for DVD, $38.96 for Blu-ray™ High-Def and $26.96 for PSP™.

With Tekkonkinkreet, Michael Arias smoothly translates the unconventional work of the popular "underground" manga artist Matsumoto into a dynamic feature-length animated film with visuals that have blown both audiences and critics away. The New York Times took notice of the film’s artistry by saying that it “demands to be seen,” and The Los Angeles Times wrote that the “visuals are hypnotic.” In the opening scene, a raven ominously soars across Tokyo's vast skies before diving down to saunter along the streets of a ramshackle old neighborhood. Good and evil play out mesmerizingly to the tune of progress. VIZ Comics will be re-releasing the 600 page manga (originally called “Black & White”) day/date with the DVD release. Michael Arias was one of the producers of Warner Bros’ Matrix-inspired animation anthology The Animatrix. Arias began his filmmaking career more than 20 years ago, working at post-production monolith Imagica and game giant Sega, before co-founding CG animation boutique Syzygy Digital Cinema. At Softimage Co., Arias developed the Toon Shaders, software for combining traditional animation and computer graphics. He also has worked on the films Prince of Egypt, The Road to El Dorado, and Spirited Away.

The title Tekkonkinkreet is a play on the Japanese words for “concrete”, ”iron”, and “muscle”; It suggests the warring images of steel and concrete cities amassing against the powers of the imagination. Tekkonkinkreet features an electrifying original soundtrack from UK techno innovators (and frequent Bjork collaborators) Plaid.

SYNOPSIS

In Treasure Town, where the moon smiles and young boys can fly, life can be both gentle and brutal. This is never truer than for our heroes, Black and White, two street urchins who watch over the city, doing battle with an array of old-world Yakuza and alien assassins vying to rule the decaying metropolis. Tekkonkinkreet is a dynamic tale of brotherhood that addresses the faults of present day society, true love lost, and the kindness of the human heart.

BONUS FEATURES INCLUDE:

· 40 minute Making-of Featurette
· Filmmaker’s Commentary
· An Interview with The Director and British Rock Band Plaid
