Hellraiser 20th Anniversary Edition coming 10/23

At the EMA Home Media Expo, I had the opportunity to speak with some of the Starz representatives, and picked up an October sales sheet. Here's what I learned:

- Released October 23, 2007
- New interviews with Ashley Lawrence and Andy Robinson
- A look at the Hellraiser score
- They found some new vintage material that has not been seen before
- They're working on special packaging

I asked about a Blu-Ray release and was told it's possible for 2008

I'm a huge Hellraiser fan and am looking forward to getting this new DVD.

Excellent! I had been hoping for a better release of this. I wonder if they will port over the commentary from the Anchor Bay release.

Starz owns Anchor Bay, so unless they record new commentaries, they'll probably use the existing ones.

What is Starz?

I have that L.E. tin of the first & second movies and they're good enough for me. Good transfer and nice extras, which generally, I don't even care about when it comes to contemporary horror flicks like this. But I doubt I'll feel the need to upgrade anytime soon.

Re: Hellraiser 20th Anniversary Edition coming 10/23

What I would like to see is the original version with the original British voices for the boyfriend character and others, instead of the Americanized dub which makes nonsense of some dialogue scenes. I don't believe this was released anywhere and the change was made before release.

Re: Hellraiser 20th Anniversary Edition coming 10/23

I understand what you mean but, unlike Mad Max for example, if this is the way the film was dubbed for all english speaking regions at the time of it's release then there really isn't an "original" version...this is the original version.

Even so I also find the dubbed American accents to be a bit odd and nonsensical considering the location of the film, Frank's dubbing on the other hand makes sense as he is supposed to be American....which makes his english accent in Hellbound very odd indeed.

Re: Hellraiser 20th Anniversary Edition coming 10/23

They'd have to go back to the original set recordings or earlier sound elements before the dub. It's a curious change and only made for the boyfriend and a few other characters. Claire Higgins and the Cenobites have their original accents, and its clear from the story that it takes place in England and that Andrew Robinson and his daughter are American and his new wife British, than what was the point in changing her boyfriend's voice?
Perhaps it was a rather heavy Scottish or regional English accent and they felt it needed to be relooped for clarity and thought, "Well, since we're relooping him anyway..."

It's a question I'd love to put to Barker.

Re: Hellraiser 20th Anniversary Edition coming 10/23

Anyone get this yet? The extras are good, if no frills, though to me the transfer looks like it may be the same as the previous release. I never saw that release myself but this one to my eye just doesn't look like something brand-new, even though the film itself is quite soft-filtered.

Re: Hellraiser 20th Anniversary Edition coming 10/23

I think I read a review on Aint It Cool about this DVD just last week.

From what I recall, I think the old transfer was used. Please someone correct me if I'm mistaken.

I can't believe this movie isn't on DVD in Australia at all.
