I think this movie is going to be huge. Mega-huge. I want it to break records and show that The Simpsons are still a huge commodity.

I don't own stock in it or anything, I just loved it a bunch and want more and more!

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have a question about the technical aspects of the movie that maybe someone can answer. The film, like the TV show, is actually animated in Korea - making it one of the few (only?) commercial, domestic animated movies actually animated overseas.

In any event, I was just wondering if anyone knew if storyboards were produced in the US by the creative team to guide the Korean animators or how that whole process worked? I can't imagine they just get shipped the audio tracks and do all of the visual direction over there, that would make any "Directed by" credit mean sort of "Half Directed By" (IMO) so I was just assuming storyboarding was done here, but didn't know if anyone knew for sure.

I thought the movie was very funny and surprisingly sweet. There was a ton of great laughs and it had heart (and 'heart' is something that has been sorely absent- so they can have the characters acting crazy and stupider than chimps- in the episodes from about S10 forward).

I think a fan of the old episodes or the newer ones will enjoy themselves with this movie.

I'll be going again this weekend to check out a DLP showing.

Kang (one of the aliens from Treehouse Of Horror episodes)
in the movie? Harry Shearer was listed in the credits as playing him but I don't remember even seeing that character, let alone having any lines.

I went into the movie not expecting much because of how mediocre the show has been in recent years but, I was pleasantly surprised. The movie was very funny especially the first half hour or so. I had a great time and actually wouldn't mind seeing a second time. It was great to be laughing so much and so hard at the Simpsons again, something I haven't done in a while. Don't get me wrong, I get a few chuckles out to the TV show these days but the movie has many huge LOL moments that reminded me of how great the show was in its "glory days."

The only thing I was disappointed in was that there was no "The Dark Knight" teaser before the movie at the theater I saw it at.

As far as the movie itself, I can't find anything negative to say about it.

The Transformers: The Movie was animated by Toei Animation, and parts of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm were animated by Dong Yang Animation.

Pyramid Head from Silent Hill (Moe's shawdow with a traffic cone on his head) On top of that ther was radio static that sounded like the radios in the game.

Kang was in the shot of the mob gathering in front of the Simpsons' house, particularly the shot where the camera goes through the mob.

He wouldn't get a voice credit for that, though. Besides, I don't think he was there.

I've read in a few places that they did some sort of test screening several months ago which included footage of Kang and Kodos making fun of the movie over the credits, and this was cut.

There had to have been a ton of additional footage, some that was taken out long ago and other footage that may have been cut at the last minute.

There should be a lot of extra footage on the DVD release; I'm hoping.

You're right. They were in the trailer, though, so it's probably for the same reason - their scene was cut.

Several gags throughout the credits. One short scene with Burns and Smithers, and another with Tom Hanks. Later, we see the Simpsons sitting in the theater watching the credits and commenting. Then they leave, just as Maggie speaks her first word: "Sequel?" Later, we hear the citizens of Springfield sing the, ahem, Springfield anthem and at the very end Squeeky Voiced Teen comes in to sweep the floor.

A friend of a friend used to be a time sequencer on The Simpsons before moving on to other shows (King of the Hill, Family Guy, now he's on American Dad). Back in his day (roughly seasons 5-10) the US team produced a full animatic, which is sent to Korea with instructions for completing the full animation (in-betweens, ink & paint, etc). Once the animation is sent back to the US it is usually full of mistakes which the US team have to correct before the show can air.

I believe some of the DVD box sets have animatic clips, so you can see what state the show is in when the Korean animators get their hands on it.

Add me to the list of people who dont really watch the show anymore and loved the movie.

I think the alst season I watched was the one with Tomaco or the crayon in Homers brain - and I found this to be really a fun time with quite a few LOL moments.

I was also really fun to see The Simpsons on the big screen with the animation kicked up a notch.

Bring on 2 and I may have to start watching the repeats to catch up past shows.

I wouldn't bother watching recent episodes on account of the movie's quality. The movie was better than the show has been in a long time. By the way, while the word she says in the movie was the first word the family ever heard Maggie say, technically her first word was "Daddy" in the season 4 episode "Lisa's First Word".

There's a lot going on in the closing credits. I may have the order a bit wrong, but I don't think I've left any gags out:

1. The credits themselves are interesting: each actor's name is accompanied by pictures of all the parts they perform. Dan Castellaneta and Harry Shearer are responsible for 8 characters each. Yeardley Smith only does 1 (Lisa).

2. The Simpsons are seen in their seats in the front row of the theater. Homer says that all these people worked on the film, and all they ask is that we memorize their names. Lisa want to make sure that no animals were harmed in the making of the movie. Right on cue, the notice "No animals were harmed..." scrolls up the screen. Maggie says her first word, "Sequel". Homer find some "Mmm, floor popcorn" on the way out.

3. The soundtrack treats us to a somber rendition of the Spider-Pig theme song.

4. "Filmed on location in SPRINGFIELD."

5. The soundtrack treats us to a rendition of the Springfield Anthem, stolen from the French national anthem because the French are good at some things like "making love, wine, and cheese."

6. Pimply faced teenager sweeps the floor of the theater and gets some gum on his broom. "Assistant manager isn't all it's cracked up to be," followed by, "four years of film school for this?"

7. The familiar FILM ROMAN GRACIE FILMS logo and jingle, with the theater patron "shushing", seems out of place on the big screen rather than the TV at home.

The new TV Guide (Glenn Close cover) has info and pictures from a few deleted scenes...nothing seemed essential to the story (no follow-up on the loose end I mentioned in my review) but they all seemed fun. I'm sure we'll see them on the DVD.

Me neither. In fact, I remember thinking before the credits that it was odd P&S had no role in the flick. Maybe they're in some deleted scenes so they wanted to give JK credit...
