Howard the Duck finally released on DVD!

(I had to scramble the link since I am not allowed to post URL's)

This is what seems to be the very first worldwide official DVD release of Howard the Duck! I wonder how that German studio managed to get the rights for this movie, since George Lucas is personally fighting against the release of this title.

Which bears of course the question: how long until the movie is oficially released in the US?

Yep, Oct. 5th, 2007. Picture is 1.85:1 anamorphic. The 106 min PAL running time hints at that it will be the uncut version without any TV edits.

I'm pretty sure that Howard The Duck was released in South America a couple of years ago too.

As for an R1 release, I think you'll see it just before LFL releases The Star Wars Holiday Special.

No; my suspicion is that Universal will release it "under the radar" as one of its Studio Selections titles, with no special features.

You know, not that I have a lot of love in my heart for Howard or anything - but to claim that it's the worst movie ever is pretty wide of the mark. I can think of a hundred movies (above and beyond Mystery Science Theater fodder) that were more inept and hamfisted in execution than Howard was. You may not have liked it, but it was a reasonably coherant production.

You mean, unlike the original Star Wars movie?!

I guess that's about right: Anamorphic transfer for "Howard the Duck"; non-anamorphic transfer for the movie that started the franchise that made it possible to start your own Hollywood studio!

Considering that there has been an HD transfer already shown on television, I'd say that the chances are pretty good that a DVD release can't be far behind. It really isn't as bad as most people think. It isn't good, but it isn't bad.
