I didn't know they were Bootlegs until today

This past Friday i went to this kiosk at a local mall. They were selling Asian film DVDs. I just wanted to buy 3 dvds. When i told the guy working there that i wanted just these three DVDs. Then the guy grabs three more dvds then says i'll sell you these 6 for $100 dollars. Then i said no, i just want those three and keep on telling him i just wanted those three DVDs i picked. Then he removes one then says i'll sell these five for $80. Then i thought about it, then i agreed to it(I don't know why i did).

Today i did some research on the net. I found out they were actually Bootlegs. DVDs are actually from known bootleg outfit Red Sun DVD (aka Bonzai Media, HK Video (not the French company), and Panmedia)

It seems the kiosk i bought them from only does exchanges and no refunds.

Today i called the FBI and the mall's management and security. The mall stated they would file a report to the local police station.

I guess i'll never get my $80 back huh?
What do you guys think?

I have not open any of the DVDs? What should i do with them?

Re: I didn't know they were Bootlegs until today

you didnt say what dvds you bought.
why would you buy from an unknown booth in a mall.
you didnt check for their refund policy first.
you bought dvds you didnt want.
you didnt walk away when the guy insisted you buy more then you wanted.

what else.

I don't think anyone should come down on you. Everybody makes mistakes. I think you did the right thing by blowing them in to the FBI. I doubt that you'll see your $80 again, but at least you have the satisfaction of knowing you did the right thing. I have no sympathy for bootleggers.

But, Saturday which was yesterday, i went back and exchanged the last two for Mercury Man and Casshern.

I just found out they were bootlegs Sunday which is today.

Yes, but he was getting very aggressive. Pretty much in my face.

Once again he was getting very aggressive. I was intimidated for some reason. No ones perfect. I've learned by lesson and i'm staying away from malls for now on.

you might as well open them and watch them.
specially if they were movies you wanted to see anyway.

lesson learned and chalked up to experience

A local video game store does the same thing here. They even gave me the riot act about how evil bootlegs are and how they don't take returns because some people steal the DVDs in them and return bootleg copies to them. This was a while back and how I got Cowboy Bebop.

Yep, it's right next to another kiosk that sells hot irons(the ones that straighten hair). It's also across from a store that sells teddy bears. Can't miss it.

Did you pay by credit card? Then charge 'em back! Ileagal goods, as I recall, is a perfectly good excuse to reverse the charges.
