CONFIRMED: Alien films coming in 2010 to Blu-ray - Page 5

Re: RUMOR: Alien-films coming in 2008 (Blu-ray)?

I think it's more efficient if he does it out of free will. Not if he's being tied up in a chair like Alex DeLarge watching Alien3 over and over until he wants to say something about it .

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Re: RUMOR: Alien-films coming in 2008 (Blu-ray)?

If Lowry did the mastering for the last set, is there really any need for further work? Wouldn't this be a similar situation that the Bond films had with the Ultimate Edition DVD's and then blu ray versions? The work is done, it's just a matter of getting them to blu ray?

And I still believe that they are over due on blu ray.

Re: RUMOR: Alien-films coming in 2008 (Blu-ray)?

I hadn't heard that Lowry actually worked on the Alien transfers. Is
this true?

Anyhow, just jumping in to compliment you on your profile picture,
Tim. Man With The Golden Gun is my favorite Bond film.

Back on topic...I am in no rush for these Alien films as long as the
release is done right. With current BD pricing I would rather wait
and pay less later on this year than what it would cost now.

I don't know.....There are few titles out there that I am more anxious for than "Alien" and "Aliens" so I hope it's not too long a wait, but yeah, there will be little to no tolerance for screw up on those releases. They have to contain both versions of the films via seamless branching (no half assing like on ID4 where only the theatrical version was available and then having extras that made frequent mention of the extended version). The Quadrilogy documentaries (anyone know if they were produced in HD?) "Alien" should restore Ridley's original commentary from the original DVD release. The isolated audio tracks would be nice, but there could be legal issues involved there and even though it might be redundant the "Alien Legacy" doc should finally be included for completeness sake.

It's probably wishful thinking, but for "Alien 3" the uncut documentary and they should also try reaching out to Fincher again to try to get some participation out of him.

If Fox could've done it, wouldn't they already have put the earlier features on the SD Quadrilogy? I do think the documentaries were only in SD, because they were in 4:3 on the dvds.

But since it's Fox, I think we're going to get a simple port first with only a limited selection of the bonus material.

I believe there were disc capacity issues preventing the inclusion of some of those features.

Hmm, that makes sense with the DTS track and the seamless branching already on the disc. Although, it could be done with The Lord of the Rings, so it could've been done on this disc.
But let's hope it is included on the Blu-Ray, then.

Re: RUMOR: Alien-films coming in 2008 (Blu-ray)?

The Alien movies in HD are a must have for me even though I bought the big DVD box set a few years ago. One of the things I am wondering about is will the offer the directors cut and theatrical cut on the Bluray release via seemless branching? And since Alien movies are 20th Century I would assume that it would be released with a DTS-HD MA track.

Can not wait for these films to be released on Bluray. I just hope that DNR is not applied to these films like Patton and Gangs of NY.

I'm resurrecting this thread to ask if there's any further news on a blu-ray release of the Alien films.  I've read that a special edition that will put the Quadrilogy to shame, is in the works.

Any truth to this?
 Where did you read that?
The information was from:

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/rumormill.html

I believe it's slated for a November release.
I found at the following link and that link refers to blu-ray.com.  I just thought with all the  inside info here, there's be more news to discover.  Look at post 157.
forum.dvdtalk.com/hd-talk/550211-rumor-alien-films-end-year-7.html

If there's a release that will make me forgo my prohibition on buying on release date (without discounts), this is the one.  won't swear to it, but this one may do it to me.
Slightly OT, but there's talk of a prequel here:www.cinematical.com/2009/10/29/ridley-scott-reveals-details-about-alien-prequel/

But you guys already new that.  I'm so not with it.

That egg packaging looks fantastic.  After doing a google translation (boy does that produce clumsy English) I discovered a link to blu-ray.com and they indicate that packaging is for a Polish release.

Looks like there's a lot of interest in this release all over the globe.

Never say never but I don't expect to see that version of the packaging in the U.S.

But that egg is gorgeous.  For the egg of a monster, I mean.
I'd prefer it to look like the 'normal' egg (without the Alien creature added) but it still looks great to me. If it's not too much extra, I might buy it.

It's funny that the title of this thread is still "Alien films coming in 2008?"

Even if we changed it to 2010, considering the time-line of the movies, it would still be behind the times.

From The Digital Bits:

Quote:

20th Century Fox has just announced plans to release more of its major catalog titles on Blu-ray (and DVD) this year, as part of its 75th anniversary celebration. Specifically, the studio has confirmed that its 3rd and 4th quarter Blu-ray slates will officially include The Alien Anthology box set (all four films restored in a new 6-disc set packed with extras - including EVERYTHING from the Quadrilogy DVD box and new content as well), [...]

Nothing we didn't know already though I think this is the first time the disc count has been mentioned... six discs.
Let's hope the uncut Alien3 documentary is included.

What else could there be for new content ?

I've thought about all this before. I'm currently out of a job so I have a lot of time on my hands.

We know Sigourney Weaver recorded new commentary tracks for all four films but whether they'll be presented as solo tracks or group commentaries with others edited in remains to be seen.

As for other stuff, I would prefer the following (this is just my own wish list; I'm sure whatever we get will knock me on my ass):

For ALIEN:
-the complete Ridleygrams gallery
-Ridley's original 1999 DVD commentary
-the Alien Legacy documentary
-commentary with film/music historians Nick Redman, Jon Burlingame, and Jeff Bond (this trio shows up on several Fox DVD and Blu-Ray releases)
-isolated score in DTS 5.1 (not a high priority since Intrada released the complete score three years ago)
-alternate music and production audio track (featured on the Alien Legacy boxset)
-tributes to Jerry Goldsmith and Dan O'Bannon
-interviews with anyone they missed the first time around (Iam Holm, Yaphet Kotto, costume designer John Mollo, etc.)

For ALIENS:
-perhaps they can split the (crowded) commentary into two separate tracks: cast and crew
-any additional deleted scenes (unless Cameron vetoes their inclusion)
-isolated score in DTS 5.1
-tributes to Stan Winston and Adrian Biddle
-interviews with anyone they missed the first time around (Al Matthews, Paul Reiser, William Hope, editor Ray Lovejoy, etc.)

For ALIEN 3:
We know the film has been blessed with a new sound mix and it's safe to say Fincher won't be involved. We have to respect that.
-any additional scenes from the workprint
-the uncut Wreckage and Rape documentary
-isolated score in DTS 5.1
-interviews with anyone they missed the first time around (Charles Dance, Ralph Brown, etc.)
-a tribute to Alex Thomson

For ALIEN: RESURRECTION:
-isolated score in DTS 5.1
-interviews with anyone they missed the first time around (with regards to the cast, I think only the interviews with Perlman, Dourif, Orser, and Freeman were newly-recorded)

For ALL OF THEM:
-trivia tracks
-interactive American Cinematographer and Cinefex articles
-some kind of "Fans and Filmmakers" featurette, similar to the one found on the Blade Runner set
-each film can have some kind of Weyland-Yutani "Science Briefing" featurette, examining different topics in the films (cryogenics, terraforming, cloning, etc.)... my inspiration here is the Starfleet Science briefings on the Star Trek Blu-Rays but, you know, less corny!

The German FSK (comparable to the MPAA) rated bonus materials I've never seen on any "Alien 1 - 4"-DVD before. An article with all the infos I found on the FSK website can be seen HERE.

I am really curious about Shock & Awe: The Return of Alien with Danny Boyle [25:01 Min.].

Do you know more about this ?

"Shock & Awe: The Return of Alien" is a TV documentary from 2003 by David Hughes. The "with Danny Boyle" only means, that he's the presenter. A bit confusing how the FSK wrote it. There will be no new Alien movie directed by Danny Boyle. ;-)

Very interesting! They look like branching segments - either branching from the movies or from the existing documentaries themselves.

These ones look especially interesting:
  • Dailies: James Remar as Hicks [3:46 Min.]
  • Ezra Swerdlow’s Concerns [1:08 Min.]
  • Fincher’s Alienation [3:40 Min.]
  • Hick’s Alternate Future [1:54 Min.]

I would like to see the Alien 3 supplements address the decision to kill of all, but one, of the surviving characters from Aliens.  That decision, ruined A3 for me.
I'm going to change the thread title since the films are confirmed and we are beyond 2008

Hi Christian

Thanks for the clarification. I did not know that there was a documentary that Danny Boyle hosted / presented.

Cheers
