XBMC help

Thread Starter
Anyone use XBMC on their original X-box? I'm trying to decide if I should do a software mod or a dashboard mod. Anyone have any input. I'm a bit confused by the instructions on these and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm assuming you're comparing the benefits of using XBMC as your dashboard or just installing it as another Xbox program. Correct?

I decided to use Avalaunch as my dashboard and just install XBMC as an application. I think all of the replacement dashboard programs are more flexible and full-featured in that role than XBMC.

However, XBMC is just a great program for media playback. It's the gateway between my PC and my home theater and is now the number one use of my Xbox. (And has been IMO the number one reason to OWN an Xbox for some time.)

Basically, you have to FTP the XBMC software from your PC to a directory on your Xbox and then point your dashboard program to it so you can launch the default.xbe file for XBMC.

It's been a long while since I installed it (once you've connected everything up, you don't need to do it again, even to update the software.)

And, of course, you need to have a mod chip (or soft-modded) Xbox to run XBMC.
