Re: New White Stripes - Anyone get it?
I've noticed something about their CD's and I can't figure it out.
I listen to them at home and they sound great. I have 2 small subs built into my Deftech 7002's and they can provide a decent amount of bass. Other CD's I had will really get things moving.
Their CD's seem to be recorded correctly, ie without a lot of compression.
However I can't listen to them in my car. I have a Corvette with MB Quartz tweeter/midrange combo, 400 watt amp powering those and a 12" solobaric with a 800watt running that. I bought the car with the system in it and it was all professionally done. Its been tuned and has individual crossovers for each corner.
Musically its very clean and sounds great on a wide variety of music.
However when I play their CD the bass is SO strong. I've tuned the car and the EQ. The only thing I play around with is the sub level. Listening to most music I have to go from 0 to +2 on the setting, thats a range of probably 8db.
On the WS CD I have to goto -5! The problem is the lower I go the less fullness there is to the bass. Its tough to explain. If there is a rising and falling to each bass hit as I go lower that rise and fall becomes shorter and shorter.
Then by the time I adjust the sub everything else just sounds out of whack.
I've never heard that sub put out the bass that their CD's do, but at home it sounds fine with no adjustment at all. I play most of the same music and there is always very little adjustment. At home I'll even dial the sub up or down a single notch deppending on what we're listening to, but nothing like I had to do in the car.
I'll get the meter out today, shut off the speakers and just run the sub to get some readings.
