Nintendo, noting that many home developers want to get a chance to put out Wii games, are offering any developer the kit and tools to do it.. and, homebrew game makers can post their game in the Wii Shopping channel so that anyone can buy.

I can imagine numerous small-timers thinking: damn, I can develop a game, and Nintendo will Market it for me if they like it? How cool is that!

Re: Nintendo announces Wii Shareware...

I think that description is a bit inflated. Think of this as the same thing that MS is doing with XBL Arcade. It's more for indie developers to make games accessible to the public and for big developers to release budget games without all the hassle of a physical media. It's not quite the same as "I would love to make a game about this" and then, poof, it ends up on the Wii a couple weeks later.

Only if they are licenced Nintendo developers meeting the regular requirements for access to devkits & SDKs, and all titles must pass the standard Nintendo QA process & have a ESRB rating.

They are most definitely not offering the kit to any developer who wants it. For example, one of the rules that Nintendo is quite stringent about is all devkits must be in a secure location that is not a residence - i.e. no bedroom offices.

Chris, there's been quite a few "big" sites that have totally misreported it, it's not your fault

It's great step by Nintendo, it's just not the "homebrew revolution" some sites are claiming.
