Setting up media servers for the PS3 or Xbox360

Thread Starter
I actually posted this in another thread because I wasn't sure if this belonged in HTPC or video game systems. I recently wrote a guide going over how to use WMP and other products as media servers for your PS3. I have a few guides for Windows and Mac and comprehensive list of products as well as user comments, suggestions and then some. I'd appreciate your feedback if you have any additional reviews or suggestions on DLNA media servers. I hope this helps those that need it and thanks to everyone for contributing!

Re: Setting up media servers for the PS3 or Xbox360

Nice resource, Robert (and great first name!)

I've moved the thread over into VIDEO GAME HARDWARE here because I think it's probably a more logical place for it to be. I hope that our gamer members find it and avail themselves of your information.

On a related note (and to get the discussion ball rolling) I've actually found that a lot of the media server applications on both my XBox 360 and my Playstation 3 have improved as the firmware matured. My 360, with the more recent firmware updates has become easy to use with all the PCs on my network thanks to Media extensions in Windows XP pro and the Media Edition of XP on my laptop. And even the PS3 is becoming more proficient right out of the box in this area now that the firmware seems to be targeting this aspect of these devices. While they don't yet seem to have all the capabilities of accessing HTPC media servers they've come a long way in a short time.

Hopefully, articles like yours will open the floodgates to further discussion and enlightenment. Good luck and thanks for sharing.
