so, my wife and i spent a week in marietta last week.
we went down for the wedding of her eldest son.
this was an unusual wedding as per wedding that i'm used to.
the ceremony lasted a mere 15 minutes.
9 of those minutes was taken up by the playing of 2 songs while everyone just stood around waiting for the songs to play.
the first song was played with a montage of photos.
the second was just played because it was a favorite of their's.
everyone literally just had to stand/sit there
until it stopped.
ok, no big deal just a little different.
the after wedding party was in the small hall adjacent to the church.
someone forgot to turn on the air conditioner early enough for it to matter.
with the exception of my family everyone was a native of the atlanta area.
the food was provided by the wife of the groom's father.
actually there really wasnt much food and over heard was, what will we be eating for dinner after the reception is over.
food was a plate of fresh veggies.
some fresh fruit.
some crackers and dip.
some chocolate covered chex mix.
well you get the idea for the food.
drinks.
uh uh.
cold water and a fountain with pink lemonade.
the brides parents were there but had nothing to do with any aspect of the wedding.
if my wife and i didnt get a photographer last minute there would have been no photos.
the parents were asked if they would be helping with anything.
no.
they did affer to co-sign for a credit card if this was needed.
there was none of the traditional wedding reception stuff, most importantly
there was no father daughter last dance.
he just didnt feel like it was necessary.
so i had to ask about the no dance and no food thing
and was told that these people are just country folk.
implying that they just dont know better.
was i expecting too much to think some real food and something besides pink lemonade should be available at a wedding party.
anyway, while driving in and around Atlanta we never would have thought 8 lanes wide could move so slowly.
is that typical of a week day on the highways there?
my wife and i were treated to a fire alarm at 5 am the night we needed to get a full nights sleep in before our 800 mile drive.
we enjoyed our trip to visit the world of coke and a hot dog at the varsity.
also took in braves game.
always fun to see an away from home ball game.
just dont ask me how long it took us to get in and out of the parking lot before and after the game.
