My limit is $1500-$1700, what TV should I get?

$1500 to $1700 is my limit with taxes (taxes in my area is 6%). What TV should I buy? The only requirement is that it's in the 40"-52" size range because my room is too small for a larger TV, and less than 40" is far too small. 1080p would be a definite plus but I'm not willing to settle for a Westington. I'd also like a TV stand to go along with it, but it's not a requirement, thanks guys!

This is probably the best $1600 deal (delivered) for a well-regarded plasma:

Panasonic TH-50PX600U at Newegg

If I were buying a new set, this is what I would buy (I bought this model about 3 months ago and $300 more. It's a nice close-out deal for a 2006 model for the price point.)

The smallest 1080p set you can find would be the 25" Regza or the 32" Sharp. That is fullHD 1920x1080. You should be able to find these sets within your $$ window. Also if it helps only samsung and toshiba offer PIP in major brands.
Your price range is almost like mine. I'm either going to get a 40" samsung or a 42" Toshiba Regza.

circuit city has the 50" Panny 75U for around 1800 and the 42" for under 1400. Thats a good deal. Otherwise there are the rear projections, you can get a 56" DLP 1080p for like 1500ish.

I got a Mitsubishi WD52631 for 1499 and I love it. DLP and all that!
Do a google search and look at reviews!

They were $3000 when they first came out but because they are now "old" you can get them for half price and the pitcher is amazing!

I won't offer a specific choice, but I would say that given your parameters a 50" 720p plasma is probably the way to go. The stand part is up to you, but for $1500 a plasma is likely the best looking and yet space friendly HDTV available now. The caveat is you can forget about 1080p in that price range

Instead of a stand, you could also wall mount. I did that with mine, it looks spiffy.

What about the Hitachi P50H401? It's 1280x1080, but it's 50" and 1080p in a plasma package. Circuit City has them right now for $1600, and reviews seem to be favorable. I saw one in person but it was showing an analog 4:3 cable channel (the golf channel of all things). Stupid CC. Still, I'm sort of in the market myself and have had my eye on this one as being a good balance of price, size and features.
