The 4400 Season 4 - Page 5

Re: The 4400 Season 4

They better bring this back. This season was amazing from start to finish, one of the best so far and it'd be a shame if they left us hanging this way.

So Marco can teleport somewhere just by looking at a picture of the place? That's one of the coolest abilities so far.

Garrity and his partner checked out the hospital and brought it back with them.

So people that survived the airborne promizine could still spread the virus?

Re: The 4400 Season 4

Isn't it spelled "Promyacin"? It always makes me chuckle when I see all the various spellings of the stuff that can give people abilities (50/50 chance).

Re: The 4400 Season 4

I'm not sure. Have they shown the actual spelling on the show? If so, I missed it.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

In one respect they did resolve a big plot....Who were the good and bad guys from the future. We were never really sure until recently. Also, if they do cancel it. I hope USA will at least allow a 2 hour movie to resolve whatever issues may be left.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

What I would like to see them do is bring the series back to a mini-series format (like Season 1) and finish out the series.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

I enjoyed the season, although it got unfocused and dragged in the middle there for a bit. The whole "Marked" thing was kinda mixed in my view. It is an old concept that invites level of scope beyond what this series can provide. But it allowed the Baldwin actor to stretch beyond his character in a fun way, and the revelatory films were an absolute riot. So in that regard it worked.

The last two episodes were dynamite. And I agree with the praises for all the finales. This series has never been afraid of dramatic changes of direction.

S3 remains my favorite. It's epic scope has yet to be matched.

Yup. At least for a little why. That was the reasoning behind the citywide quarantine.

USA Network actually did a huge promotional campaign around the shot, and spelled it "Promicin", with no Ys.

I'm not sure they did; in fact I'd argue that things are murkier now than ever before. Sure the side behind the marked did some pretty awful things these last few episodes. But the excellent "Gone" two-parter the season before showed that the other side wasn't above doing terrible things, either. In the meantime, Jordan Collier's Seattle seems very much like the walled city of elites in a world of poverty that he was railing against every since his resurrection. Maia's comment to Diana at the end makes it clear that she at least has embraced a vision with the 4400 as a higher lifeform than the original humans. Jordan's "zero tolerance" policy towards promicin negatives seems to bound to foster that sense of racial superiority among the other promicin positives.

It also explained Matthew Ross back in Season 3 and the government's strong anti-4400 stance since the end of Season 1.

Scott Peters posted on the official USA Network message board saying that USA Network has cancelled "The 4400". And Michael Ausiello is also reporting that "The Dead Zone" has been cancelled.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

The least USA could do is give a 2hr wrap up movie for 4400. Its not like this show was a one season show. It lasted 4 seasons.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

Well, they've gotta make room for more Law & Order reruns I guess.

These were two of the best shows (IMO) on TV.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

Nooooo!!!! I *just* got USA HD (and SciFi HD) last night on Comcast (Gaithersburg, MD) and was really looking forward to finally watching season 5 in HD. I figured the strike might be resolved by the time they needed to film it, and it wouldn't be affected at all. USA better give us some kind of wrap-up movie/miniseries/etc .....

Re: The 4400 Season 4

Since it started out as a mini-series, I can see it could end as one. Or at least that's what I'm hoping.

Major bummer. The 4400 has become my favorite part of summer television. This quote from theUSA Network VP particularly sticks in my craw:
"We wish we could keep all our great shows alive forever. But we feel we need to give some of our new shows a platform to grow, and it's with great sadness that we say goodbye to two shows that had a great run and helped create the resurgence of original programming on our network and on all of cable." He's basically saying that "The Dead Zone" and "The 4400" are high-rated shows that made the channel what it is today, but we're going to cancel them to make room for repeats of "Burn Notice" or something.

I don't get it. They had the money for all of the shows last summer. "The 4400" has done incredible things with an incredibly tight budget (they couldn't even afford Conchita Campbell for all of the episodes). Why toss it now for either repeats or new shows with no guarantee of success?

That would be ideal for me, too. Give them the kind of budget they had for the mini-series and let them finish it off right. "Dead Zone" got an extra season last year to wrap things up right and pissed away the opportunity. "The 4400" deserves the opportunity to get it right.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

USA just lost me as a viewer. This is BS leaving fans in the lurch like this. End season 4 with a cliffhanger and then cancel. WTF.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

Not an ideal solution, but direct to DVD movies have proven a viable option for programs in the last few years. Maybe that is a possibility for the 4400.

It didn't seem that the Dead Zone folk knew for certain that this was going to be the last season for it either. They did wrap a few things up, though. I am sad that they have canceled both of these series. I would really like a closing mini-series for The 4400 to bring more closure to the series.

TDZ had been pretty much cancelled before getting a last minute renewal for last season. That was a gift, owing entirely it its compatibility with the better performing 4400, that could have been used to finish the story. Instead, they wrapped up the story in one episode and went back to the mystery of the week episodes.

Hoping that this might be the case for ``The 4400'' and ``The Dead Zone''...a movie or miniseries to wind up all the plots. Still that both were canceled. I echo what a lot of viewers have said about a gap now in summer programming.

There's certainly a market for both genres series to go the direct-to-DVD route. Like I suggested in an earlier post, I would love to see "The 4400" go back to the mini-series format. If USA Network can reverse their decision on "La Femme Nikita", and giving fans a mini-series to bring closer to that series (though I read with mixed results), they can do the same with "The 4400", and maybe TV movies for "The Dead Zone". I didn't care for the last season, though I loved the appearance of Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Tom Skerritt in the finale.

Ironically, although I expect "Monk" to get renewed (I mean it’s USA's and cable’s most-watched series in television history), the network hasn't yet officially announced whether it will be back for a seventh season, and the only series whose fate is unknown. None of the cast members know if they're coming back, and they have all stated they would come back if there's a 7th. As it stands, there's no resolution to the "Trudy" arc or any of the other loose ends to bring this series to an end. The contract for the series is up, as well as Tony Shalhoub's (whose contract was up back in September). Andy Breckman said they were in renegotiations, and he talked about discussing how long to go with Tony, who both agree that eight seasons would be a good run for this series. But of course, nothing was set in stone. I guess fans will have to wait until the writers' strike ends, to learn its fate. I personally like to see one more to wrap everything up, and give this series a "classic" ending.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

I wonder if it's got anything to do with The 4400 and The Dead Zone being produced by non-Universal companies. Even if The 4400 does fairly well, NBC Universal doesn't get the chance to repurpose it, sell second/third-run rights, or any of the DVD/internet money.

EDIT: Yep, a little IMDB-fu shows that the two series described more or less replacing them on USA's schedule/budget in this article are Universal productions.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

There goes any chance of any kind of resurrection on USA Network. I just read the following on TV Series Finale's TV News Briefs for December 20, 2007:

Quote:
EOnline asked USA about the possibility of a mini-series or movie to wrap up either The 4400 or The Dead Zone series. According to an unnamed source, there's no chance you'll see any kind of conclusion on that channel. Still, there is a small possibility that another channel could step in or something could be produced for a direct-to-DVD release. We'll keep you posted on any new developments.

If anyone wants to start voicing their desire to see a direct-to-DVD conclusion to "The 4400", you can contact CBS/Paramount through the CBS Store. I'll see if I could find a way to contact Lionsgate, which handles "The Dead Zone".

And please feel free to post any additional contact info you may have for both CBS/Paramount and Lionsgate in the meantime.
