The fourth season starts tonight. I guess this can be the thread for the new season's discussion.

I'm looking forward to picking up this story again.

I agree with both, but I'm a little wary about this season of the 4400. With how last season ended, I feel like it might be made a little more difficult for the writers. I kind of hope they go back to feeling more like seasons 1 and 2 which I thought were much better than season 3 (which was still good anyway), but I doubt they will.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

I will be taping and saving the first few episodes of this season to watch later. I am 1/3 of the way into season 3 on DVD, and will be caught up soon.

Anyone know why tonight's premiere is only 1 hour? Seasons 2 and 3 had two-hour premieres, or 13 hours for the season. How many hours will season 4 be? Any word on this being the final season?

Re: The 4400 Season 4

It's probably just how USA had room to schedule it this year - even if the other years had two-hour premieres, they were likely two single episodes glued together. I'm guessing that it's just a matter of them having the same number of episodes in this batch as they had of The Dead Zone, or wanting to use The 4400 as a platform to launch Burn Notice later on.

Really? I thought each season has been an evolutionary step forward. Season 3 was by far the best for me.

This season is exploring totally different places, it seems like. Color me intrigued; I enjoyed the season premiere much better than that debacle for "The Dead Zone"

Re: The 4400 Season 4

I enjoyed this one quite a bit. So Collier does have a power.....?? Very interesting - and would he have used it except for the fact that this kid was stepping on his "territory".. ??? And who was the girl that Kyle was talking to in the park - I'm assuming (since she seemed to know all the details about Shaun) that she was some sort of manifestation of Kyle's own ability??? Thoughts???

Re: The 4400 Season 4

Yeah, I really liked that storyline though because it summed up where this season could go: what happens to all the people who now enable themselves with powers... ?

I think it's a fantastic power for someone in his position. And it makes sense that it never manifested before since the second generation "extra crispy" superpowered didn't exist until Collier started handing out needles. I wonder, if Graham shoots up with promicin again, will he get his power back? Or does Collier's power permenantly disable an ability.
As for why he did it, I think — Burkhoff's hilarious "messiah-envy" comment aside — that Collier used it because it threatened his long term objectives. He's got to take out the dangerous ones, like Graham, if he's going to convince anybody that his promicin-enabled revolution is the right direction for the world.
I liked his dream at the beginning, with the conflicting futures. We see too many one-note messiahs on shows like this. Jordan's guilt and self-analysis gives the character depth. Part of working towards something you really believe in is having the responsibility to make sure what you're working towards is really worth believing in. Considering the scam artist he was at the beginning of the series, it showed real growth as a character.

That's a really interesting — and all too possible, even probable! — idea. My first thought was that she was a promicin user that had the ability to read minds. Her inexplicable disappearance led me to believe that she was an agent of the future, who needed Shawn back in the game. Once Kyle activated Shawn, she was yanked back into her own time. Considering what they did with Alana, we know they're more active in current events than we'd thought.

Indeed. The thing that made my draw drop with that shocker of a season finale last season was the knowledge that "...this changes everything." It was nice to see that everything indeed did change.

I also thought it was brave to keep Skouris storyline on the bench instead of having Diana — with Maia in tow — starting back at NTAC once the new season started. Even though Diana arrived back in Seattle at the end, she's clearly going to be doing her own thing for a while. Meanwhile, Maia (wow, did Conchita Campbell grow a foot since the season finale?) seems to really like Europe AND Ben and seems to be out of the picture for the immediate future. Things got really scattered by that season finale and I'm glad this season is letting them play out naturally.

It was a good starting point. It will be interesting to see where this goes next.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

I watched this again and something dawned on me. It's obvious that Collier is still near to Seattle. But more importantly, he was able to very quickly react to the news and had awareness. And in his message he acted as "The Shepherd" that he would guide them through troubled times ahead.

What made me wonder about this was what Isabelle said: "If you knew what I know now..." When Tom walked through the art gallery and saw the painting, he knew that she was in a different time, more then a hundred years ago.

In the end, what was real, what had been altered? I may be reading a lot into it, but that combined with the "ripples in the pond" bit.

I'm really looking forward to this.

Clearly, whatever difference Alana's abduction made — and it was clearly a much smaller difference than when Maia and the other kids were abducted in "Gone" last season since there's no moon colonies now — it happened at the end of last season. Isabelle, apparently de-bitchified since getting syringed, initially intended to spare Tom's hope. Later, she must have decided that he deserved to know.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

Y'know... I think I needed a longer "Previously on..." I couldn't remember half of what happened last season. And especially Isabelle's father. I can't remember how his storyline ended at all. I assume he wanted off the show?

How did Shawn get in the coma?

Did Isabelle put him that way?

How and when did they get her captured?

I think they needed to rerun the final episode before the new season began! Is there a summary somewhere?

Oh, and I'll miss Alana!

Re: The 4400 Season 4

I had the last episode of last season DVR'd. It was on last week some time.

Isabelle put Shawn in the coma when she read his mind to find the location of the stolen Promicin. When Isabelle got there it was a trap and an explosion was set of. Isabelle went to the 4400 school to kill kids as a way to get to Collier and was eventually taken down by Richard who injected her with the syringe Tom had from the future. Without her powers she wait straight to jail.

At the end of the episode Diane goes to Spain with Maia, Alana is abducted, Tom's son and Diane's both get their hands on Promicin. Richard is shown leaving in disguise. Didn't know he had left the show.

Really?? That's good news - I always liked Richard's character and was surprised that he was gone. I knew something was up when the actor's name wasn't anywhere in the credits. It's easy enough to explain, I guess, given that he had essentially "killed" his own daughter ... (he thought she was going to die, and he did it anyway) Either way, I'll be happy if he re-joins the cast.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

Good episode and good start to the season.

USA had actually been airing season 3 recently late at night (I think late Wednesdays). At least I caught the last 3 or four episodes. The last episode was on just last week, I believe. I'm glad I caught it before seeing the season premier.

Ryland didn't make an appearance. I hope his character is still here (like another character who is still here but didn't appear in the episode).

The story has been progressing nicely each year, so I'm really interested to see where this season takes us.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

One little gripe I forgot to mention:

I didn't like the explanation of how they knew Skouris' sister obtained the shot. In the final episode of last season, they show the shot being distributed by basically homeless people to whoever wants it (with the proper warning) on the streets, as per Collier's direction. It was portrayed as being a completely anonymous transaction. We see that she was in one of these lines and got it and walked off.

So it just didn't work saying that they found her name on a list of people who obtained the shot in an apartment that was raided. It doesn't fit at all with how it was handled in last season's final episode.

So I didn't like that. But it was pretty easy to get past it because I knew it was just a short cut (though a cheat) to get this info to Skouris and move that plot forward.

As I said, a little gripe. Probably not noticed by most viewers if they hadn't recently seen the season three final episode.

Hopefully, we won't sink too much back into the "Freak of the Week" syndrome with the new batch of Extra Crispy 4400s. I want to see new powers and be tantalized with their consequences, but I also enjoyed the way the story moved along in this episode, and I hope they keep that up.

Graham's a dope. With a power like that, subtlety is your friend. Sure, he's only 16, but at that age, I think I would have come up with better things to do with it than getting my face YouTube and the local cable-access channel. If Collier hadn't shown up, it was just a matter of time before a vigilante sniper took him out.

Ha! Thumb Wrestling!

I'm hooked for the season.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

It took me a while to recognize the young kid with the leadership power as Cameron Bright, who looks like he's going to grow up to be pretty normal looking (and not odd looking as an adult as some kid actors do sometimes).

Now we know Kyle's gift.. and we know how wrong Promicin can be used by a public who's divided on whether or not they want to be "evolved".

Good episode tonight. They're really keeping the momentum going from the season finale last season.

I like the way that Shawn is going down his own path now. It looks like he might become the opposite pole to Jordan Collier is the inevitable civil war to come; the Professor X to Collier's Magneto. It'll be particularly interesting to see where people line up when you consider Kyle's power. He is for all practical purposes, like Maia, a clarevoyant even if the mechanism is different. I could see each ending up in the opposing camps, using their "visions" against each other.

I wonder, considering the two duds we've had these last two weeks, if the original 4400 were specifically screened to do well. Even the ones that caused problems/murders served a higher objective. With the "extra crispies", that's no longer really a given.

I also liked the scene at the end with Shawn and the autistic boy. It's nice to know, with all of the complex mythology they've built up over the series, that they haven't forgotten the sheer awe of a world full of people who can do the extraordinary.

Well, Diana's back in the fold. I spent the episode wondering if she'll get under blondie's skirt, since the latter seemed to have the hots for Tom. Now I'm not so sure. Shawn's nephew heals people. Blondie's father needs healing. The woman's got good intelligence, so I don't really think she'd miss putting two and two together.

(What's blondie's character's name? Not that I don't love sexist nicknames, but in this case they're woefully vague.)

1. Kyle's power and the White Light group [since we know that the people from the future can place people in the past, the White Light must have been one of their projects. Easy enough to make an accurate prophecy if you know the future.]

2. Diana's search for her sister.

3. Collier and the cult following he will build

4. Tom's search for Alana

5. Isabelle's future - why are they transferring her to a new facility?

and more

Meghan Doyle needs help from Shawn. Apparently part of the next episode will have Shawn in trouble from using his healing power. Perhaps one way he'll get out of trouble is by healing Meghan's father (or at least attempting to do so).

Right, all of the 4400s in the first seasons had a "ripple" effect to promote some change. The effect that Graham might have had was more people seeing Collier and possibly more will follow him. The effect this week was getting Diana to be Tom's partner and getting Shawn to heal again.

Re: The 4400 Season 4

See, I think they look at Isabelle with a really dark lens. Isabelle is "alergic" to promicin and it would kill her. I think the government likes that idea, and is looking to come up with a "take down" shot that will kill anyone who exhibits powers they don't want.

Or at least, that's what they've told Isabelle.

Exactly what I was thinking. The best way to try and prevent her from ever re-acquiring any power is to tell her that it would kill her. Then it just comes down to whether or not she's got the desire to try it. Although the whole "we'll transfer you to another prison" thing seemed a little off to me anyway. Those guys certainly do not appear to be dept. of corrections personnel, and also don't appear to be NTAC (unless there's a serious lack of communication within NTAC).

Also, don't forget how they made it sound last season I think it was, that there were multiple different factions from the future that had different ideas on what to do to save the world.
