Re: Two new BBC releases planned
The 2 disc Warner BBC set of ARWAV was a huge improvment over the initial (Image?) release, but iirc there were several instances of PAL-like ghosting.
I don't remember if there was a pitch issue though.
In any case, baring a botched transfer, I'll be upgrading to the HD DVD version. The film has become one of my all time favorite romantic comedies and I will be thrilled to own it in the finest version possible. The vistas of the English and Italian countryside, along with Florence, should look damned nice.
As for Galapagos, we will no doubt be all the studios (and independants) going thru their catalogs for nature docs thanks to Planet Earth.
If Sony hasn't resceduled Winged Migration yet, I'm sure they are seriously looking into. PE was/is a fantastic production with some spectacular eye candy- but I didn't buy pick it up just because everyone was raving about the visuals. That was one reason, but the other was the presence of Attenbourough and the praise the series got for its narrative scope and coherence.
Between this and Microcosom (sd, but it looks like HD for the most part), I think I'm pretty set for nature material for a while.
