Bionic Woman season 1 thread - Page 9

It's as good as the A-Team or Knight Rider - and it's *THOUSANDS* of times better than this modern piece of shit.

Couldn't agree more. Just look at another show as a perfect example of old VS new, Quantum Leap or the newer Journeyman. As I said before, they are totally out of ideas or anything original to bring to these shows and the scripts are every bit as bad or MUCH worse as you point out.

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

Quantum Leap versus Journeyman? Both good shows.

We are fortunate that we have Journeyman today.

But we are even more fortunate that we do not have an A-Team or that talking car show today.

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

Is next week's the one with the new people working on it? I really hope they bring something to the table, as I would otherwise have been better off dropping this turkey after the pilot. Unfortunately, the DVR synopsis for next week sounds horrible. Can't judge from that, though.

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

Much of this post comes from info at this source: http://www.scifistream.com/bionicwoman/s1/index.shtml. Visit there for even more detailed synopses of the various episodes, aired and unaired.

I believe that next week's episode may be the first episode wholly created by the new production team. However, it also appears that it may be a rather simple stand-alone episode, perhaps to buy time as the new production team determined a new path.

The original episode path would have been:
1x01 "Pilot"
1x02 "Paradise Lost" - A rural town's entire population is mysteriously killed.
1x03 "Sisterhood" - Jaime babysits ambassador's daughter and Corvus asks for Jaime's help.
1x04 "Birds" - Anthony Anthros kidnaps Will Anthros.
1x05 "Face Off" - Jaime goes after a CIA agent kidnapped by terrorists, learns of 5 year lifespan, Corvus captured by Berkut Group.
1x06 "The Journey" - 5 year lifespan solution found, Jaime and Sarah Corvus must decide who gets cure.
1x07 "Everything Will Change - unknown

But revised episode path has become:
1x01 "Pilot"
1x02 "Paradise Lost" (parts refilmed with Will's funeral) - A rural town's entire population is mysteriously killed.
1x03 "Sisterhood" - Jaime babysits ambassador's daughter and Corvus asks for Jaime's help.
1x-- (episode "Birds" deleted)
1x04 "Face Off" - Jaime goes after a CIA agent kidnapped by terrorists, learns of 5 year lifespan, Corvus captured by Berkut Group.
1x-- (episode "The Journey" deleted or maybe being remade for later)
1x05 "The Education of Jaime Sommers"* - Jaime goes undercover as a British transfer student.

*notice how this "The Education of Jaime Sommers" episode wasn't on the original list, which is why I am thinking it is the first episode made by the new team. We'll get to hear Ryan's actual British voice in this episode!

I suspect Hannibal and the gang will soon follow.

Although it would be kind of hilarious if we didn't - House did an episode where the title character was pretending to be English on the phone, but Hugh Laurie did it as an American faking a British accent rather than just dropping his "American" accent.

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

Poor Hollywood. Terrorism is the big issue right now, but it's just not PC to have certain real-life groups do the terror. So what have we had so far? Right-wing militia types in episode 2. Serbians in episode 3. Paraguayans in 4. I'm hoping the next group is the Shriners. I don't trust anyone who drives a car that small.

Thanks for all that information. That definitely indicates that there were serious internal problems with the show. It doesn't look like they were really ready to go this fall. I hope that when the dust does settle we have a better show.

Weren't there guys walking around in the snow at the end of the pilot or second episode? What was that about?

We see later that the method they had her use, set up her starting the fan again during her escape, but I can't see her having that foresight.

But to me, that was SO BOGUS. When she let go of the blade after bending it the first time, if the motor were still running, it would have rotated until the bent blade struck something. But it didn't move at all, (indicating the motor had burnt out). So there is no freakin' way, just because she later straightens the blade, (like some 10 or more mins later), it's gonna just start spinning again.

Yes, escaping into the tundra was Anthony Anthros, the evil father of Will Anthros. Anthony Andros was rescued (off screen) from a deep underground secret prison, supposedly for trying to sell bionics to the highest bidder.

He was briefly seen a couple weeks ago giving Sarah Corvus some drugs to alleviate the pain that she is going through as her bionics begin to fail.

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

Thanks. I saw Anthony in prison and later talking to Sarah, but I missed that the snow scene was his escape.

Y'know... even if the motor had burned out (and some sparks and smoke would have been a nice touch), she could have started it spinning again later simply by giving it a real fast bionic push, Wheel of Fortune style. The motor would not actually be working but the fan would be spinning at a suitably lethal rate for several minutes. Tsk tsk on the writers for not thinking of this.

If you're going to stick your hand in there, you are either going to catch the blade or it will chop your hand off, but that's a matter of how fast and how sharp the blades are vs how tough your hand is. I guess I'm mystified why the timing itself matters.
You could maybe try to match velocity to grab the blade, and then (quickly) drag it to a stop. That might do less damage.

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

They did show a spark when she stopped the blade, I believe. That's why I was surprised when it started up again.

A lot of Kevin Rankin lately. Does this mean he's off Friday Night Lights for good?

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

Answered a few hours later. Herc was back on FNL, and Brooke Langton was, too. I thought she was gone for good to Life. She was only seen briefly, though, and in profile, but she did get a credit. I guess since they are all NBC shows, they can shuffle around a little bit. Come to think of it, I watch a ton of NBC this season. Probably 85% of my viewing.

Edit: I'm nerd enough to have run the numbers, and it's actually a straight 50%.

Did it really start up again, or did she just spin it as hard as she could with the bionic arm to keep it going for a while, long enough for them to get away?

I think it started. In fact, I think it started up slow, then picked up speed, back to normal, as if nothing had happened.

Looking forward to complain about tonight's episode!!!

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

I sort of wish they would have just let Michelle Ryan use her natual British accent, I like it better because her dialogue delivery is much more fluid and natural.

And it's damn sexy!

Well, I finally got what I wanted-- A more fleshed out storyline and no Sarah Corvus! I thought this was the best episode yet. It wasn't perfect (more bionics please), but it was definately a step in the right direction compared the the previous episodes. And next week looks promising too.

Here's hoping tonight's episode is an indication of what's to come.

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

I'm done. I skipped tonight's episode. If it turns out to be a quality TV show at the end of the seasons, I'll pick it up in reruns or DVD. Happy watching to those of you sticking with it. Just please return Katie Sackoff to us BSG fans in a timely manner! Thanks

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

I agree, Patrick. She was a MUCH better character with her real accent. I also liked the CIA agent with the trustworthy face. I think this episode was like a completely different series, one that I like. I also noticed that they'd reinstated the bionic sound effect, which was a nice touch.

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

Still boring.

It did feel like they're going in a new direction though. It also felt like they intentionally want to let us forget about those excruciating previous episodes. They only mentioned her dead fiancee but no Sarah Corvis. No 5 year battery life. Even her sister was almost unrecognizable and no Jamie whining that she would leave her sister alone while she was off to college.

That said, even though it looks like they added a new cast for her to get romantically involved with, I'm still waiting for this show to lift off.

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

I didn't know that the actress playing Jamie was British. I guess that does explain her teeth.

What is it with these shows lately casting main characters and forcing them to speak "American"? Just like the guy in Journeyman. Why couldnt they have just made his character Scottish? And why couldn't they have made Jamie English?

It just doesnt make sense putting the actors through voice coaches etc. They should just let them be themselves (accent wise) or pick actors that are from the place their character is from.

For the record... Jamie is much better with her real accent.

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

Isn't the guy in Life also British. Let's see:

Bionic Woman: British
Life: British
Journeyman: Scottish
House: British

The outsourcing of America continues. What's Liberal Hollywood doing about it?

Re: Bionic Woman season 1 thread

Definitely the best episode so far. I don't think it was just the absence of Sarah Corvus, but that certainly helped. Looks like she won't be back next time, either, so that's damn good.

Still not incredible. It was kind of crap how she announced her agency affiliation before having ironclad confirmation of who the dude was. "Oh, it's really a homework assignment? I work for the Burket Group!"

I was glad to see them using her bionics a little more. She ought to use them in little ways throughout the episode, and they are getting there. I also liked her little tete-a-tete with Herc. They make a pretty good team.

So, not a favorite yet, but it did buy itself a little more time. Dave, I think you picked a bad episode to skip, because it was different/better. Unfortunately, I think this is the first week where it isn't reaired on Saturday.

As do I. Not a great ep but not disaster. More bionics please. I hope this isn't going to be a season of mediocrity.
