Hd-DVD/DVD combo discs?

Apologies if this is a blatently obvious question but as I'm about to buy a UK HD-DVD player, I just wanted to check something.
I know that the HD-DVDs have no regional restrictions on them, unlike BLU-RAY, but i wanted to know about the combo discs that come out in the US. As they are combined with a DVD side that I assume will be Region 1(?), do they play on UK players that would be Region 2 coded (like the Toshiba HD-DVD player)?

The HD DVD side is not region encoded, so it should play in sny HD DVD player. The SD DVD side is region 1 encoded. The SD DVD side will not play in a region 2 player. Unless, of course, it was modified to eliminate region coding all together. I'm not sure if any HD DVD players have been hacked to eliminate region 1 restrictions.
