New feature

I just added a new option to the forum. Now when you subscibe to a thread the script will mark the thread as "Subscribed:" and stick it at the top of the list for you. This way you can instantly see the threads that you have subscribed to without having to scroll down the pages to find it.

Re: New feature

I just posted a thread asking about this, I mean exactly at the same time as you did this one!

Is there a way to turn it off in CP?

Re: New feature

Hi.

Is there a way to make the tag a bit more inconspicuous? A symbol would be much preferable to altering the thread title. As it is now, it's very distracting.

Your work is much appreciated, as always.

More:

I find it pointless to make subscribed threads sticky. It does not good to me to have them up there if there are no new posts.

Re: New feature

Wow. To my knowlege, I have NEVER "subscribed" to a thread. All of a sudden I have 229 subscribed threads - every thread I've responded to in the last year or two by my count.

How do I DELETE all "subscriptions"?

Re: New feature

Click on this link

Check the Notification checkbox.

Scroll down to the Selected Threads popup. Select "Delete Subscription" Press "Go". Repeat as desired.

I had a similar experience today, but found how to unsubscribe in mass. I didn't receive any emails about those threads.

Oddly, the other day I was looking for a link to subscribe to a specific thread, but couldn't find one. I seem to remember there used to be a "subscribe to this thread" link or button somewhere.

Re: New feature

Parker, thanks for ongoing efforts to improve HTF, but I don't care for this.

* It's redundant with the check mark.

* Eventually my screen with be permanently filled with dead, but subscribed, threads and I will no longer see new threads.

* It makes it harder to read the titles, as they all begin with "Subscribed: "

* I don't want to actively manage my discussions by being forced to manually unsubscribe when I get bored. I like just watching them fall off as posting ceased.

Re: New feature

I just deleted all subscriptions and set my defaults to "Do Not Subscribe", so this probably won't have any more effect on me. I just kind of figure that I shouldn't have had to.

I agree completely with Dave's reasons for not liking this new feature. I do appreciate your efforts in continually trying to improve the functionality and look of HTF, Parker, but in this case I do not care for the change.

Is there a way we can have the option to disable this feature on our individual accounts?

Re: New feature

Parker, as was said, I appreciate trying to improve the site, but this isn't making things any better.

I find it more clumsy since you now have to scroll even further to find new posts. Plus, the word "Subscribed" (in the title) makes it slightly difficult to find a thread title right away.

Re: New feature

Even though we can individually disable this feature, by default, it should not be there: The consequences of this thing are more far ranging than mere cosmetic issues or personal preferences; it dramatically changes the dynamics of these forums: The new setup severely limits the exposure of next threads and topics by introducing extra steps to their discovery. It encourages a narrower focus one's preferences (subscribed threads) at the expense of new material. Essentially, it limits interractions which are the heart of these forums.

Even if I disable this feature on my side, I know that a new thread I start right now will end up at the bottom of the screen of most posters.

Re: New feature

That is really odd. The only ones you should see are the ones that you subscribed to.

At any rate, I removed it.

Re: New feature

Well, that's what the case is, but I think most people didn't realize that any time they posted to a thread, it was subscribed. Those of us who didn't do anything with our subscriptions were thus very surprised when a whole mess of them started showing up.
