My system is almost complete :)

I've been building my new stereo system for the better part of the last two months, it now consists of:

Speakers: Fidelity Acoustics RFM-2
Subwoofer: REL T3
Integrated Amp: Krell KAV-400xi
CD Player: Naim CD5i
Network Music Player: Squeezebox 3
Interconnects: QED Qunex 1
Cabling: QED Silver Anniversary XT
Shelving: Quadraspire Q4
Universal Remote: Logitech Harmony 880
TV: Sharp Aquos LC-37D62U

My next upgrades are a Rega turntable and a DVD player - amazingly I no longer own a DVD player, but that's another story altogether!

Looks nice Alon...but man do you need an HD DVD player.

Re: My system is almost complete :)

Tim, I can't agree more, but right now my system is 70% music, 30% TV, haven't had time for a movie in almost a year! I need to get my priorities straight.. But I'm waiting for a combo player with Silicon Optix HQV before I purchase my next player. Might consider an Oppo to get me by before I go HD. Was deeply considering a Denon DVD-3930CI for a while, but decided to purchase the Naim CD Player instead.

Re: My system is almost complete :)

I have always liked the idea or transmission line speakers but I have never seen one at a dealer or anywhere else, for that matter.

You obviously are a trailblazer and not one that follows the crowd. I like that.

Enjoy and let us know when you take the home theater plunge.

Re: My system is almost complete :)

Thanks Joseph! If you have an opportunity, I definitely suggest auditioning transmission line speakers and subwoofers, you may be pleasantly surprised! I spent close to a year auditionning speakers, amps, and cd players before finally making my selection. All the while I let my ears guide me. I'm also a firm believer in keeping the system as simple as possible, with as little connections and processing as possible. In the end I was rewarded with a system that I absolutely love. Eventually when I move to a bigger space I have the intention to dedicate this system to music, and purchase a separate system with an emphasis on home theater.

Re: My system is almost complete :)

Hi Alon (and other HTF members ,

I recently moved to the lower mainland, an was looking to purchase a subwoofer to complete my system. Unfortunately, money is tight right now, so have started looking at the pre-owned market. I see you initially were going to get an SVS SB12, but you ended up with a REL T3. Each of these is on my short list. Any idea where I can find these or similar subs in the "used" market in Vancouver and surrounding areas? I live in Coquitlam and can drive pretty much anywhere within a 100 km radius.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: My system is almost complete :)

Hi Mike, actually I ended up selling the REL subwoofer, my system is completely 2-channel now, consisting of all Naim separates (cd player, pre-amp, poweramp, power supply, phono stage, cabling), plus a Rega turntable

Best place to find a great deal on a subwoofer would be canuckaudiomart.com. I would post a Wanted ad here as well. Otherwise Hifi Centre usually has an annual sale where they sell of demo and trade-in equipment, I would definitely give them a call

Also the basement in Commercial Electronics is packed full of trade-in's (mostly electronics though), but worth stopping by while you are downtown.

Last one might be Signature Audio on Cambie Street, they have a really estoteric selection, and if I recall they might have some trade-in's

Cheers,
Alon

Re: My system is almost complete :)

I much appreciate the advice, Alon.

I've just posted a Want-ad on Canuckaudiomart, and will do the same here soon as well.

I checked with HiFi Audio about a 2nd-hand sale and am awaiting word.

Will try Commercial Electronics and Signature Audio as well, per your advice.

I'm still very much a newbie and having been spending more time on this site to learn about hifi in general. I auditioned the REL T3 a few days ago and really liked what I heard. I was told that those would work particularly well with my electrostats (ML Aerius). Have been scouring the webn ever since to learn more about REL and other subs that might work well with my system and within my space limitations.

Curious as to why you got rid of your REL T3. Were you not happy with its perfromance, or was it more a question of wanting a different configution for your system altogether?

Thanks again,
Mike

Re: My system is almost complete :)

Hi Mike, I sold the REL T3 because I live in a small condo, and I found myself constantly tweaking the bass as I was worried about bugging my neighbours. This was distracting me from the music, so I wasn't able to enjoy my system as much. This isn't to say the T3 isn't a great subwoofer, I just don't think any subwoofer would work for me in my apartment

Also I decided I wanted to build a pure 2-channel system. Eventually when I purchase a bigger place and possibly build a home theater system then I will consider a subwoofer again

Cheers,
Alon
