StarCraft II is announced! I've not played video games much the past several years. This might change that. It might also take a toll on my marriage

Well, guess its time to replace the old eMac. (Its 32mb videocard was lowend in 2003)

Man, talk about one of the great RTS games ever (Starcraft)! Hope they do it justice.

I'm replaying Starcraft now. Oh, the Terran Theme song is a siren call to me. And I am pathetic compared to my old gaming self. And my wife doesn't care for me spending hours on the PC gaming.

Life's different from grad school when SC ruled the world

We used to have this great map of Europe that was the perfect matchup. You could tank up the land bridge from France to England or hole up in the valley they created for Germany. Lots of good starting base points for about 8 teams IIRC. Sadly I lost the map in a computer transfer and could never find it again on the web.

I really hated how they changed the map size for Age of Empires 3, so this really has me excited about seeing a more classic RTS (Starcraft, AOE1 and 2) but with the juice of a newer release in terms of graphics and possible options.

Great sound on the original, love the tank lockdowns and the marine grunts especially.

That sounds like a great map! We played with some map making, a few even with custom events. But mostly played with the official and free maps from Blizzard. We did a lot of 1v1, perhaps with some computer players tossed in.

SC was the only RTS I really played, so I have much to compare to. My old SC-partner/opponent is visiting this weekend, so we may give it another go.

I don’t come into this forum much but I did over the weekend and got excited by the news of a new Starcraft. So I went back to reload the original and sadly the disk has bought the farm.

By the way did anyone look at the play demo movie? They really have added some nice new characters and vehicles.

If things stay as promising as the demo I’ll certainly be grabbing this one.

Ehh, the graphics are currently on par with what you'd see in C&C 3. Starcraft was great because of the game play, story & Battlenet. I hope that Blizzard will make significant (further) improvements to the graphics while still concentrating on maximizing the quality and balance of the game play. Based on past releases this is a strong possibility... (see the history of Starcraft development as an example).

Wow! It's been three years since announcement!

 

It's out and I've got a few basic questions I'm hoping someone can answer :)

 

* Will there be a demo?

 

* Does a single purchase work on both Windows and OS X? Or is it one or the other?

 

* How's it play on a 2007 MacBook Pro with GeForce 8600M GT? :) (especially important if there's no demo)

I can answer your 2nd question - the game DVD includes both the Windows and OS X versions of the game. This is true of both the standard and collector's editions.

 

I can't answer your MBP question, but I will say the game looks and plays great on my late-2009 Core i7 iMac!

Yeah, not sure if there is a demo, but if you know someone that does buy it, it comes with a 7 hour trial activation code they can give out too friends too try out.

I just installed the trial (full game, just limited to 7 hours game time) so have not played it yet.

I've got Win XP / Bootcamp, so that's a tolerable option if need be.
