Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Thread Starter
In case you hadn't heard, Mr. Knapp is closing up shop after all these years and at the end of May Home Theater Talk will be no more.

His site and HTF were my main website intros to the Home Theater world and it's always sad to see an era end, but life will go on and people will find other hangouts.

Just wanted those who may have known or been a part of the Knapp/HTT world to have a chance to give Mike a well deserved shout out.

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Priorities in life do have a tendency to change over time. I don't remember my password, otherwise, I would've posted some comments over there. Anyhow, I wish Mike well in any future endeavors.

Thanks Alf and Crawdaddy.

I am not going totally away, just fading out.

Thanks for remembering me.

Mike - well, we all wish you well in all of your endeavors.

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Mike - I send all my best wishes. I know how that is. I haven't posted here or at your site more than once or twice a year for the past 5 years. Life really evolves and we sometimes must step up and embrace those changes.

All my best Mike.

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Mike, your influence during the "early years" is unmistakable. You've helped more people than you can possibly know, and you have more friends than you can possibly count. Whatever life brings your way, those things will always be true.

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Mike,

I do remember my password and after something went wrong with my previous post at HTT, I'll try to say something there as well.

Just two words here: squeeze, pinch.
(Not really related.)

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Hey Mike.

I did not post a lot over there (or over here for that matter) but I really enjoyed the energy you brought to any discussion.

Take care you old Whippersnapper!

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Hey, Mike, while I never joined up (couldn't because I was using MSNTV for a long time) I did have the pleasure of meeting you once and I wish you the best, your one of the originals around here, dude.

BTW, how's the ol' water heater (what Mike calls his subwoofer for those that don't know) hanging in there, still kickin' or have you upgraded to something larger yet?

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

This clearly spells the return of Turkey Knapp.

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Why doesn't the guy just take a break and let others deal w/ the site?

Why is he taking the ball with him?

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

We're NOT discussing here the way Mike's site is managed, nor any of Mike's decisions in that respect.

Thanks for understanding.

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Thanks Cees,

Tom,

I cannot just walk away from it. It is too much a part of me. If it is there, I will be checking in and I wont be able to not participate in the administration. I have tried doing that before, several times.

Closing it was the only way. I wish it wasn't but I know myself too well.

There are plenty of balls left.

Now that brings back memories. I still can't remember which TP method won the debate...

Mike, you'll be missed. I fully understand about rearranging priorities in life, so I wish you all the best.

Please do check in every now and again, though. Best of luck to you!

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

I think I classify as remembering some of the classic Knapp posts. You will be missed.

Carlo,
I just thought that TP, big honking wires, and MDF would serve as a "Knappshot".

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

That toilet paper is hung incorrectly by the way.

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Now wait a minute...

I have cats. If you hang the TP the other way, they will pull it all off into a pile on the floor.

What I posted is the only right, rightous, and correct way to hang TP.

Anybody who thinks otherwise is a bubble-headed dufus.

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Actually Mike is correct. Anyone who insists that TP should be rolled from underneath has not participated in controlled double-blind tests that ultimately show the superiority of having toilet paper unrolled from the top.

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Anyone ever get hit with an overwhelming sense of fear when you try to get a new roll started but you sometimes end up tearing it down the middle and you try desperately to peel it so that it's not all messed up? You just feel like you're never going to find the real end?

I hate that.

BTW, mine hangs from the back.

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Hey Mike,

Sorry to hear that HTT is giving you agita. Hopefully we'll see your pretty face around here now and then!

Re: Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Hanging the TP from the back may increase the friction, especially when it's still a bigger roll, causing you to tear off a dumb piece of paper (between thumb and index finger) which you have to throw away unused (while the piece of paper it came from is also less usable). This leads to TP-inefficiency -> more costs and negative environmental effects.

Because of the specific gesture you generall use tear off TP, the little piece often falls to the floor, where you have to retrieve it from a rather difficult and tight spot and you're being forced to assume an awkward body position getting it. (Remember you needed that paper to do something you haven't done yet at that moment.)

Not worth it at all.

IMO.
