Very Kate Winslet, she even sounds like Kate when she does American accents.
A bit of Winslet, but she also reminds me a bit of Elisabeth Rohm (another Angel reference).

And a reference to Veronica Mars with Hearst College.

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

This was OK, not the best Pilot I've seen this year, but not the Worst, I have a question thou, he said that he was working for the "Dead Girl" if true how does this guy pay the bills, looks like a pretty snazzy apt he has there, not to mention all the illegal Blood buys ,must get expensive (does the morgue guy give it to him gratis?) I'll stick with it a few shows to see where it's going. Most of the shows I've seen this year Chuck, Journeyman, K-ville, fall into this "Alright" catagory. I've been having to take the wife to work since we're down to one vehicle for a few weeks, so I've been coming into work early and I've been using alot of the new TV Season as filler to view on my Ipod before Work, I'm not sure I'd make time otherwise for alot of this season. I expect to be whittling my viewing down in the next few weeks.

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

I imagine we'll see him take paying jobs over the course of the year. Plus, he's ninety, so he might have owned it outright for years and have the miracle of compound interest working for him.

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

The second episode was pretty dull for about 58 minutes (for its timeslot), but the final couple of minutes almost warrant one more sampling next week, but the show suffers from having a non-charismatic lead vampire who just doesn't seem too smart given all the life experience he should have under his belt. Also, the cheesy blue screen during the driving scenes were just horrendous in this day and age of TV production. I am fairly certain this show will not return in the calendar year of 2008.

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

I tried watching this last night and found it to be painful.

It is somewhat sad to see Jason Dohring (who did a wonderful job as Logan Echolls on "Veronica Mars") stuck in this show.

It is like they tried to throw a bunch of pieces together, but the whole is not greater than the sum of its parts.

I agree with Patrick that this show is likely "one and done"...

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

I'm out. I DVR'd this and caught this morning. Some have compared to "Forever Night" or "Angel" etc.. there is lots of room in the vampire genre, and all of them have their own differences.

The only real difference this show has is that it bores me to tears. The vampire in this might as well be Angela Lansbury in "Murder She Wrote", and this show lacks "Murder She Wrote"s humorous Dick Van Dyke sidekick.

The dialog is stiff, and it delivers in a way that it is impossible to really "buy". It's sad because there is some talent in this show.. but it looks to be largely squandered.

Yep!
I'm putting a stake through this one.

I'm out too.

My wife said it reminded her of "Toonces: The Driving Cat"

I kind of enjoy the two episodes aired. I don't know. May be I just like the whole vampire thing. I would rather watch this than any realities show out there.

I'm with you. I dig the vampire theme and I think the lead has got real appeal. I sympathize with him...

It's a shame most of you guys aren't getting into this, I thought the second ep was really good. And I did notice the blue screen but to me it seemed as if the show was attempting some sort of stylized film noir-type imagry, sort of like how the driving scenes were done in Sin City.

I'm glad she knows about him now, I hate it when shows drag these things out for too long.

It's kind of funny that his hair is not even moving while driving in convertable.
I think they kind of borrow from the 50's, 60's detective shows and sin city style.

I have tried to like this show. I can't. It sucks. Pun not intended.

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

Moderators, can we rename the title of this thread? It has become the official discussion thread but the title makes it look like a bashing thread.

On another note: It isn't exactly a full season order yet, but CBS has ordered more scripts which is a good sign this show will be around at least a while longer.

Here is a link to the news.

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

As far as I'm concerned, both shows and "Angel" are guilty of ripping off TV's ORIGINAL vampire drama, Dark Shadows!! Let's face it, Barnabas Collins was the original 'vampire with a soul', and every TV show with a vampire in it ever since owes a great debt to DS!!

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

Despite the vampire angle, this show is shaping up to be much more like Beauty and the Beast than Forever Knight. Mick is a relatively "young" vampire who hasn't even outlived a plausible human lifetime yet, so there are no flashbacks to centuries past, no long historical perspective and much less detachment about mortals. The real core of the show is the impossible love story - the rest is window-dressing. The situation reminds me of Journeyman which, in spite of the time-travel gimmick, has much less in common with the show everyone compares it to, Quantum Leap, than it does with Ghost Whisperer.

What's up with Moonlight, it's preempted the next two weeks. Writers strike or low ratings/cancellation?

Neither. The show is doing very well in the ratings, especially in the key 18-49 demographic, which sometimes elludes CBS, whose audience tends to skew older. These are just the usual post-sweeps, early December pre-emptions. CBS has a couple family friendly specials to air over the next couple of Fridays, and is pre-empting all of its primetime shows. Moonlight returns on December 14th. A total of 13 episodes are believed to have been shot, so there should be three more episodes after that (titles and synopses have been released for two of them, but on air dates.) Chances are the last episode(s) will air in January or February, probably as part of the February sweeps. (Sweeps periods always track whole weeks, so they don't coincide exacly with months. The last few days in October or first few days of December might be part of the "November" sweeps, in a given year, while the last few days of November might not. That may be another reason for [b]Moonlight[/i] skipping next week - the 30th might not be part of the sweeps period, so there's no reason to "waste" a new episode.)

Joe

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

I stuck to my word about NOT watching this show, but did see a bit of one episode and also every time I see commercials for it, I see things that sound like ANGEL rehashes. Girl who turned the lead character into a vampire many years ago has returned alive - posing as someone else - when she's supposed to be dead since he killed her years before?

*cough* Darla *cough*

And Jason Dohring, who in my opinion would have been PERFECTLY CAST as Angel's son because he resembles him quite a bit if you think about it, is a kind of Doyle-like character on this show? He dresses exactly like Horatio Caine but without the shades. And the lead girl resembles Kate? Looks as if they've borrowed elements from the first two seasons of ANGEL and combined them with their own stuff.

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

I guess we will never know because she's dead(presumably) but how did Morgan not age if she became human? Or was she possibly a human but the longevity of a vamp. But I think the thing Mick wants most, is not to live eternally. Which would be pretty sweet, just think of all the changes you would have seen in the past 100 years. Or more if you've been around longer. Hopefully this show will stick around once the strike is resolved

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

Well, she could have just become human recently.

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

oops, didnt think about that. thats the most simple answer I guess. hopefully she wont die and we will get some answers/Mick will start working it to find out. Seemed a little out of character that Beth would stab her like that.

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

Beth thought she was a vampire when she stabbed her, and she was kidnapped by this woman as a child. I don't blame her for acting impulsively.

I still can't get over how much Beth looks like the lady cop in Angel.

Here is Elisabeth Röhm from Angel:

And here is Sophia Myles from Moonlight:

News on return of Moonlight??

Any news on when new episodes of Moonlight will air, I love this show

I believe CBS has ordered a few more post-strike; they should run from mid-April to mid-May.

Re: News on return of Moonlight??

That blonde is Sophia Miles - and yes, she is hot.

Moonlight returned three weeks ago, of course, and I'm enjoying the mortal Mick arc. (Thankfully they made the cure temporary, thus letting them play around with Mick as a mortal without wrecking the premise of the show.)

This week's episode was a good one, although I so hate the cliche of the character who runs into an obviously ransacked building where the perp could very well still be lurking. How about backing out slowly and calling the cops on your cell phone? Dramatically that works as well (and takes no more time) than the slow, pan through the wreckage, the slow "suspenseful" walk to where the body is and the dramatic non-reveal of the corpse. (Since we generally see only a leg or arm sticking out from under something, along with some blood.) Beth could have backed out, called the cops and then they could have cut to the cops on the scene and the body being wheeled out. At least that would have spared us the voice over of Beth screaming for help in an obviously empty building. Some days I think the characters are this show are smarter than the folks who are writing for them.

Joe

Hey Admins, can you please change the title of this thread?

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

Mmmm...Sophia.

It returned with a bang, Josef and Mick vamping out and kicking ass was cool as hell.

One thing I want to mention is how sweet they make the vamped-out vamps look, rather than going the Buffy and Angel route with the lumpy make-up and deep lion-like growls they resemble almost a coyote crossed with a really angry snake about to strike with the hissing.

When Mick gets angry and opens wide and hisses it makes me recoil a little, that's something that I never did watching either Buffy or Angel.

Re: New CBS show "Moonlight" a ripoff of "Forever Knight"?

Poor Mick, ya feel sorry for him not hooking up with Beth already, how much longer can they prolong this...come one. I feel for the guy! We like the show too FWIW, but that new DA guy looks like another mortal love interest for Beth maybe?
