Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

It seems like this one just sort of faded away.

Such a unique show. I'm eager to buy it all. I guess the only real reason a studio fails to follow through on a series is insufficient sales, right?

So, that must be the case with Green Acres, I suppose.

Just wondering...

I'm very disappointed, as well. I watch my first three seasons over and over again. An announcement for Season 4 would make my year.

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

Green Acres is one of the shows that was caught up in that whole MGM distribution change to Sony and then to Fox. I would be suprised if this series was not continued again at some point.

I'm hoping for it to continue

That was kind of what I suspected/hoped, but with the continued passing of time I become less hopeful.

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

I think the FUture of these unfinished Series May line with online Distribution from Itunes and Others. Already Itunes has put up Season 3 of Hill Street Blues. Owning 2 Apple TV's and Having no DVD's in Site I will probably buy a season Pass to get this series. So if the quality is good enough and the price is right let's see those Unfinished Shows !

Given Fox has stoppled releasing season sets of Mary Tyler Moore and King of the Hill on DVD, I doubt we'll ever see the remaining episodes of Green Acres if Fox is the distributor.

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

Green Acres is MGM but the overall sentiment is correct. It doesn't look good for the continuation of any of these shows which is a damn shame.

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

If Green Acres is now controlled by Fox, then it makes sense that they haven't gotten around to it, because they have had so many of their own projects in the works. I'm sure they'll get to it when they have the time.

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

Someone do me a favor....

Around the second week of July, send me an email about
Green Acres.

I'm meeting with Fox (and hopefully) MGM in July and I'd
be happy to bring this title to their attention. I'm also waiting
for the release of the remaining seasons.

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

I haven't started on this one yet. But it most definately on my list. I'm glad it has multi seasons out now. Good deal! I hate when they stop on Season 1. This is one of those shows you almost have to rediscover how hilarious it is. A complete series release would make me quite happy!

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

I definitely want more of the Douglases and the rest of the Hooterville gang! Come on, there's only three more seasons to do- don't leave us halfway!

And while you're at it, ask those fools at FOX why they're aren't releasing more vintage shows from its vault! I want Peyton Place!!!

Also:

Julia
Nanny & the Professor
Bracken's World
Judd: For The Defense
Room 222
The Ghost & Mrs. Muir
James at 15
The Paper Chase
Adventures in Paradise
Bus Stop
Lancer
The Green Hornet
Dobie Gillis
(though I hear that the Max Schulman estate wants a king's ransom from Fox before there's a DVD release!)

And of course BATMAN!!!

Stargate Atlantis S2

April:
Flipper Original Series S1

May:
Cagney & Lacey
The Magnificent Seven S2

June:
Outer Limits Original Series (re-release, wish there were extras) V1
Rat Patrol S2

July:
Home Run Derby V1
Stargate SG-1 S10

Aug;
Home Run Derby V2
Outer Limits Original Series (re-release, wish there were extras) V2

Seems to me we will be seeing more of Green Acres.

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

Gentlemen,

I'm still here in Vegas.

Many of you heeded my request to remind me to talk
with someone out here about the series -- and I did.
I am afraid, however, the response is not good.

First of all, nobody from MGM was out here. I had
the opportunity to talk with a Fox Executive about the
title. This individual was uncertain about the rights and
if this title was still under Sony license.

I was also told basically that things just don't get thrown
out on DVD anymore and that the process of what does has
become much more selective. I got the impression that it
has become more difficult to get these TV shows out on DVD
these days because of sales. BOB NEWHART and MARY TYLER
MOORE were examples that were brought up in conversation.
Sales were very poor on these titles, but Fox went ahead anyway
and continued releasing them for the sake of the fans. Problem
is, you can't keep doing this for every title and the studios have
become more cautious about releasing only what they feel will sell.

I'm not saying that this is the case with GREEN ACRES, as Fox
was really unsure of who owned the title and how well it did sales
wise.

Please don't take anything definitive out of this post. Our conversation
were casual in an atmosphere where research could not be done. I promise
I will continue to mention this title to them. Fortunately Fox is a good studio
to work with when attempting to get titles released.

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

I assumed it would be pretty clear-cut, with MGM being successor-in-interest to Orion, who was successor-in-interest to Filmways, that Fox would have it.

And it's not like studios have ever misjudged the American public's tastes before.

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

And it just occurred to me

1. Fox has a deal with Anchor Bay, which included Doogie Howser, M.D.

2. New Line let BCI have the rest of Wanted: Dead or Alive.

There is no reason not to let Anchor Bay have the rest of the Fox shows they don't want to finish.

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

They went thru Season 3, so I assume the sales for Seasons 1 & 2 must have been decent.

I assume this is meant to be a humorous statement. Exactly home many shows pre-1980 have they released that aren't Irwin Allen or MTM titles?

Those days where when exactly? I have never felt that I was living in an age where the studios were just throwing tv dvds out there (except for Mama's Family season one). And further, I don't think that the production has slowed down for classic tv on dvd. In just the surrounding few weeks we're getting: The Rookies, Voyagers, Gunsmoke, Land of the Giants, not to mention follow-ups to Beauty and the Beast, Dallas, Dynasty, Baa Baa Black Sheep, the Incredible Hulk, Hawaii 5-0, the Muppet Show, That Girl...where is the problem? Just by barely scanning the release schedule, I'd say the studios have us in good hands in terms of the number of new sets being made available. I am also frustrated that we don't always get what we want when we want it, but there's still a LOT of stuff coming out to buy...

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

Yeah, we are getting some rare stuff. Pity it isn't like the earlier part of this decade when things couldn't get out onto DVD fast enough. Maybe an upturn in the economy will bring those days back.

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

MGM owns Green Acres, and Fox distrubets the DVD's.

So why haven't we seen Season 4 on DVD yet? your geuss is about as good as mine. I geuss when MGM left Sony for Fox for distrubting their DVD's some titles got mixed up and put somewhere else.

They'll probably repackage the already released seasons before releasing something for the first time. That seems to be what they're doing with movies.

Re: Green Acres? - Not a bang but a whimper

It hasn't been that long--a studio switch didn't stop Dynasty 2 from coming out normally.

Well, I have a feeling older color shows would have a higher priority than B&W shows. OK, so we've seen OUTER LIMITS and ADDAMS FAMILY , but those are the two highest profile B&W shows in the UA/MGM TV Library that they still control. (I'd also say the other top 3 high profile shows in the UA/MGM B&W TV Library being "Mr.Ed","Sea Hunt" The Patty Duke Show".)

It's possible MGM has control what they release on DVD,but FOX only gives
them "X" number of slots per year/has Veto power. So what we might have is TWO
companies trying to figure out what is viable and need to agree!
