If TSoD is right, only 16 of the 23 episodes have commentaries. That would make it the first set without commentary for every episode.

Yup, that's the information we got - not every episode has a commentary track.

Wow, kind of sad if that's the way it's going to be. Not so much that I think it's absolutely essential for every episode to have a commentary, but it is sad in a "end of an era" kind of way. The set may feel just a little less complete. Oh well.

Probably becauseof the movie, for me itdoesn't matter.Idon't buy them for the commentary

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

I'd like to see commentaries on every episode but what I consider to be the classic era ends pretty much with this season anyway. I know I'll pick up the rest of the seasons but if they're dropping some of the commentaries, I wish they'd speed up the releases.

If they stick with the schedule of the past couple of years, you can expect Season 11 in December. There are a lot of seasons that need to be released, but I would think 2 seasons a year is pretty much par for the course for most shows being consistentely released.

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

Yeah, I'm sure S11 will be out in December but I wish there was a release in maybe March or April in addition to the two in August and December. But you're right, two per year is probably all that I'll get.

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

Sad if true, but I'm looking forward to this season because I think it is under rated. At least to me it has a number of my favorite episodes.

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

IIRC, weren't some of the previously released season sets also first announced with specs indicating that not every episode would have commentary?

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

Not that I remember. This is the press release so I think it's pretty safe to assume that it's accurate.

No, it's NOT the press release. This is information that a retailer sent to us; the set hasn't been officially announced yet.

Yeah, I seem to recall that early reports of some of the Simpsons and Futurama releases did not indicate commentary on all episodes.

So no one really knows for sure yet. Also, DVDReview.com is reporting that seventeen episodes have commentary. Maybe they just reported wrong. Or, maybe there are conflicting reports

DVDReview likely got their information from us (as they've done in the past). When I first posted the news to the site I had added an extra bullet at the front, making it look like there were 17 commentary tracks (though the first line was blank).

Well, at least there's still some hope left that they may all have commentaries then.

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

Was I in gumdrop lane, or do I remember a time where one of the guys said that every episode will have a commentary?

I hope so, as this is the only show that I feel like I have to listen to the commentary - it's easily my favorite consistant commentary and it's awesome to find a hidden one to boot.

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

Maybe they just haven't gotten around to recording the last 7 commentaries as we speak. Or maybe they don't have time because they were busy with the movie. I think it's okay either way--we'll forgive them if they've finally run out of things to say after 250 episodes.!

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

Which season contained the episode with Patrick McGoohan and the tribute to The Prisoner? I feel like it may have been season 10, although it could easily have been season 11.

That episode is The Computer Wore Menace Shoes from S12.

There's also that great gag in The Joy Of Sect from S9 with Marge escaping the Movementarian compound with the Rover (I think that's the name of it- it's been years since I've seen The Prisoner) and it engulfs Hans Moleman.

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

However many commentaries there are on the future sets, I'm on board. I am a little shocked, though, that S10 isn't coming out in early July to promote the movie. We are getting three Simpsons releases this year, if the pattern holds: S10 and S11, plus the movie.

Good enough for me.

I hope they speed them up to three sets a year.

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

I'd like them to spend the releases up too. I stopped watching the show on TV with season 12, I believe, so I'd like to get to the seasons I missed sooner. So far I've enjoyed ever DVD set and I love the character head cases, I hope they continue this after Bart with some of the supporting characters. Too bad they didn't do this from the beginning.

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

must add, I really hate those heads, and I've been thankful that with S10 we'd finally be rid of them and back to standard boxes for S11 and beyond.

Do we really want a Mrs. Krabbapel plastic head?

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

Commentaries or not, I'm still there. And even the worst Simpsons episode is better than just about any other show.

More seasons would be nice but I don't want them faster if it means losing commentaries and extras on the sets.

I wouldn't mind a Moe head or ones for Mr Burns, Smithers, Dr Hibbert, Krusty, Milhouse and Abe. I hope they don't go back to the regular boxes but rather they do something unique and different.

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

Or perhaps the the season 11-15 cases will be something completely different. I mean, the first 5 were standard cases. The 5 after that were heads. I think they should change it up and try something else to keep with the pattern. I'll be damned if I know what though. Perhaps each set could piece-by-piece replicate the Simpsons' house or something. I don't know.

That's my guess too. The most likely reason that they switched over to the head cases was to make them stand out on store shelves so they're probably going to 'refurbish' the sets again and go for a different look after they finish S10.

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

Update: I got my copy of this set today and it includes commentaries for EVERY episode. The info about only 16 commentaries was wrong - they're there for all 23 shows!

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

BTW, the "Washington Post" ran an article yesterday to promote the movie. It included interviews with the series' bigwigs and included Al Jean.

I'd never seen Jean before but I'd heard him in many commentaries. Based on his voice, I thought he was about 55, probably 5'5", bald, bespectacled and generally nerdy. Imagine my shock when I actually SAW him - he's almost exactly the opposite of what I expected!

Re: Simpsons S10 - 8/7/07!

I know a guy who looks like that actually.

And for the Star Wars nerds (like myself), Mark Hammill is on the commentary for Mayored To The Mob.
