Tinted lenses cost much less than transition lenses. And you can choose the strength and color of your tinting.
As a reference, transition lenses in "dark" mode are the equivalent of 50% tinted lenses, which is just right for me, but might be too weak depending on where you live and what you prefer.
The sunglasses I don't like are the goggles, mainly because the lenses are not parallel to my eyes. My prescription is strong enough that any significant deviation from the alignment of my eyes will result in blurred vision.
If you already have a pair of comfortable glasses, measure the overall width, bridge width and temple length, and use that as a guide when you shop online. The measurements are also usually written on the frames themselves and may still be readable.
Finally, if you don't already have it, have a friend help you measure the distance (in millimeters - ask a Canadian

) between the center of your pupils. That measurement is important for proper centering of the lenses.
