I've just noticed that when I place an image on my desktop as a background the brightness/gamma/contrast is significantly darker than it should be. If I'm viewing the image in a browser or in any other application it appears normal.
I have adobe gamma but it's not active. I use Nvidia Control Panel to callibrate my monitor. I've played with both of these, and with my monitors hardware settings, but all them alter the picture at a base level.
I can't for the life of me figure out what could be causing this, nor how to go about fixing it. I generally use lighter backgrounds so I've no idea how long this has been like this either (since the beginning of time?).
If anyone knows what this is or has any suggestions for fixing it I'd really appreciate some help. One last bit of info, I've taken a screenshot here to show you the problem, but It's in reverse. When I took the screen shot and pasted it in photoshop the too dark portion became normal, and the normal portion appeared overly bright.
